Rumor Pixar's Coco coming to the Mexico Pavilion

Bob has the money, he just doled out $54 billion for Fox, is about to have Infinity War rake in stupid amounts of dollars, and started to charge for parking.

Movies generate 10-12% of the revenue...drop in the bucket...

Sometimes "blockbusters" far underperform - you just have to look behind the scenes to see it.

But 40% and falling of the money is from tv...30% and rising from parks...

Translation: they need to spend less/make more from the parks.

All the announced construction at wdw has nothing to do with the "50th"...it's a promise to the investors that 5 million more people annually will start to come and Everyone will be paying a much higher rate.

A Fire Mountain could've been a great sight from the Polynesian. Instead they are building a big blue box.

I'm almost certainly mistaken. Are you insulting Expedition Everest? What was it a gut reaction to? We'll take this one out back sir...

I wasn't insulting Everest...though you DO know that 1/3 of the intended design/story doesn't currently work, right?

Anyway...Everest was announced and "rushed" into construction (its disney - relatively speaking) after the first stockholder proxy vote was 30% withheld for Eisner...and Roy was thundering away at him and using "timidity" in the parks as a prime example.

Or none of that matters if you believe in coincidence.

If you believe in coincidence...it also doesn't matter that in August of 2011 they announced the avatar development somewhat out of nowhere...with nothing designed and the largest land build timeline in Disney history...just after the first numbers from potter came in and completely reversed the decline trend at USO...

Just random.

It's a popular enough IP they made a successful sequel, Mike and Sulley keep selling merchandise, and Disney felt it was worth including in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts game, which seems to only be incorporating current, relevant, Disney-synergy-approved movies this time around. (Frozen, Tangled, Big Hero 6, Toy Story etc.) But i'm bias, I want the door coaster and I'll keep deluding myself that the IP is worth it until it happens.
I think it would work...but I don't think they would.

Monsters U did "underperform" by Pixar/disney standards, did it not?

I'd have to go back and check but I think that was the Hollywood press consensus...which means it was told to say that from Burbank.

My point - and I thank you for playing along brilliantly - is that all rumor discussion can be framed and discussed intelligently. I think you would agree (correct if I'm wrong)? As opposed to always devolving into questions like "is it gonna be open by next summer?!? Should I move my trip up?!?" And giving disney credit for what's not been built...which always happens.

The time and place for that is after groundbreaking.

This I agree with wholeheartedly.

The infamous "door suspended coaster"?

That's right up there with fire mountain

...but then this seems to go right back to what I mean. Both of these projects are verified to have been in development at one point. The Door Coaster even had blueprints made and I believe pre-work had begun in the soundstage that ultimately received the third TSMM track when the Door Coaster was canceled. Maybe it's just your sarcasm, but this seems like you're again telling him that he's wrong and that these are fictional fan dreams.

Not that I dispute the existence of either of those in the blue sky...it's just the Internet fandom ran with it and twisted out of control...neither became close to being added at the end of the day.

Agreed, I think it would work, I don't really believe it'll happen, but I can hope.

And Monsters University is the 6th highest grossing Pixar film to date, beating both The Incredibles and Monsters Inc., but to the Disney corporation, $268,492,764 domestically at the box office could very well be "underperforming." This is all, admittedly, not taking into account the worldwide box office or adjusting for inflation.

Monster Inc made $112 mil more domestically adjusted for inflation...and the 12 year release difference evens out a lot of the difference in international gross...

So I do think that was absolutely viewed as underperforming by disney standards.

Wait till they see frozen 2...

Eh I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure Everest was announced before that vote, which was 43% against Eisner. But if you see a correlation that's fine. I understand you aren't insulting it now.

Honestly...I'd have to search for the article...but the SECOND withhold was 43% which ousted him...

The first was lower but also was when Brian Roberts issued the bid offer and messed with him. (Roy Disney's fingerprints were all over that)

Ah, we're finally getting to the same page. I think I've misunderstood your tone this entire time. You are a master sarcaster, sir.

However, I don't think you're giving door coaster enough development credit. I'll defer to Martin, but I'm 99% sure that it got pretty close to being built a few times. It is my understanding that site prep had even begun adjacent to TSMM in Soundstage 1 at some point before they ultimately went with a third track. @marni1971, is that correct or am I imagining that happening?

srsly tho, here, info's just tossed with nary a venmo link in sight, so i'm not quite sure of his reason to always want to course correct...
tangents can be interesting and spitballing kills time - and i find it hilarious if someone were to actually book a trip on some wonky 'insider' tip, so i don't think he'd goalie that

sir?

It was way before the third track but some exploratory digging was done. It wasn’t green lit but more red and amber (that’s a UK thing)

Yep...I followed all that...I just remember when it was originally proposed was in the period were they weren't gonna spend a damn dime
In Orlando...so that made it nearly a DOA concept from the go...the longer it drags...the less likely it gets done.

I wouldn't shoot the messenger on that.

It more like the silly things...like how they were gonna dredge a channel from
Caribbean under buena vista drive to Epcot...just asinine.

Well...I will give you that...it's like tying rocks to the seagulls legs and throwing them into the harbor...good, clean fun
