News Pixar Place will transform into a Metroville city block at Disney's Hollywood Studios

This will be special use space. It's something they can easily block off for private parties and such. If you think about it, this space affords them easy access to the load side of TSMM so they can run a special event while maintaining guest access during park hours. I wouldn't be surprised to see a backside entry for the new Mickey ride as well.

This new space will also as someone else alluded to, provide a bypass of sorts directly to Starwarsland as well. All in all, this former on stage space just became multi use for pennies.

Not to mention an exit to get crowds out of the park.

Who said this? There was speculation earlier in the thread that it could be used that way, but I didn't; see anything to indicate that it would be used that way.
I would like to know too...IMO it makes sense considering that corner is going to bottleneck they are going to need any access area to get through due to hoards of guests within that area..

I’m not sure Pixar Place would help much with crowds. The passage is pretty narrow and it will not connect directly into Galaxy’s Edge. It now dead ends into a backstage roadway with the berm to SW Land on the other side. The berm isn’t just landscaping, it’s elevated. If they allowed guest to turn left on that road it would dump them out around the Grand Ave SW entrance. Not sure that helps at all with crowds. If they allowed guest to go right the Toy Story entrance to SW Land is right there. You would basically allow guests to skip Toy Story and go direct to SW, but the paths in TS Land are probably wider and easier to navigate. Not sure it’s a big gain for crowd control.

There is a plan to potentially utilize the former pixar place as a one way exit out of Star Wars land upon opening. All entry will be via the muppets area and all exit will be out this side keeping the exiting crowds out of Toy Story.

That helps with massive crowds overwhelmimg TSL but overall it doesn’t really help with SW crowds since there’s still only one, narrow space to exit through.

So if that’s the plan then this Metroville Incredibles thing will close by the time Star Wars opens? That’s even more temporary then I originally thought and completely defeats the purpose of having it to absorb some of the extra crowds from SW.

More about people movement and crowd CONTROL than capacity stuff. Keeping traffic moving in lanes and everyone moving the same way is a huge help.

The main street bypasses aren't huge either.. nor do they need to be to serve their purpose.

Capacity is needed park wide, but if there are things to stop or slow crowds in metroville exiting SWL, it hurts the speed of guests exiting. If the goal is to move people away from the area in large numbers, the less for guests to look at before hitting the theater “hub” the better.

Anyone else feel the need for “ONE WAY” signs in place of normal directional signage in this park for a while? Lol

Right, but in this case the bottleneck is not TSL it’s getting out of SW Land. There’s 1 narrow way out so whether the crowds are routed through TSL or down Pixar Place there’s still a narrow exit. At least with MK there are multiple ways to get to the hub before going down the Main Street bypass.

I thought the goal was to give guests stuff to do at a park that’s charging $100+ a day. If the goal is to just push people in and then out of SW Land why not just close the rest of the park or even better open a back door directly in/out of SW Land from the parking lot. I’m not saying this meet and greet area is some great addition, but IMHO they will need more “filler” (not less) for the massive crowds once SW Land opens since there aren’t new rides coming beyond Great Mickey Ride. They need “stuff” worth stopping for.

Do we have any idea of the approximate budget for this project? That would give us a better idea of whether it will be a very basic overlay or involve somewhat more real theming.

It would be nice if they gave this project a large enough budget for some actual construction for place-making, as with the creation of "Grand Park." So, to put it another way, can we expect a "Grand Park" or an "Incredible Tomorrowland Expo"?

Park definitely needs MORE along with a better flow throughout. Depending how they treat the area / exit strategy from SWL, my opinion changes. Either way it’s all speculation at this point. Even Disney likely won’t have a REAL plan until they see what happens IRL with DL’s opening.

Agreed. I think they are winging a lot of this on both coasts. They at least have Carsland and Pandora in recent history but these crowds could very well make both of those look tiny. At least at DL there’s 30+ rides to take up people’s time before/after their visit to a galaxy far, far away. DHS could get ugly. I hope they add a bunch of temporary exhibits or minor attractions to keep people entertained.

Whatever happened to the building from Narnia/Jack Sparrow? Is there any chance of another temporary exhibit coming there? Seems like a place that could house another temporary cheap attraction. Maybe the upstairs of PizzaRizzo becoming Muppets Walkthrough exhibit. that building was a walkthrough exhibit originally before they built Pizza Planet.

Has anyone heard of any other temporary/cheap A-Tickets being added in 2019/20. We already have Metroville as an A and the Lightning McQueen Show as a B or C.

Isn’t the Jack Sparrow building where the entrance to Toy Story Land is now or is the building still there?

If what was said earlier in the thread is correct they won’t have this Metroville thing either if they turn Pixar Place into an exit for SW Land.

Isn't the idea of Metroville as a SW Land exit just speculation? Like, don't the insiders just keep sayin it is possible but probably not because it would require people to exit through a very narrow backstage area that is used often by cast and has a trash compactor? So, I've been assuming that this is just an extra thing they are adding for Star Wars crowds rather than assuming it would open and close within 6 months.

And that's probably true about the Jack Sparrow Building. It makes sense. I never realized that.

That makes a lot more sense to me too. Someone a few quotes back said the plan was to use it as an exit.

True, but not too long before that is @MisterPenguin saying it was highly unlikely unless the crowds are significatly more than Disney expected. So, maybe it is being kept in mind in case it becomes needed, but I feel like they wouldn't open this up as a (presumably lightly) themed guest space if they weren't planning to use it as one.

The way I interpreted this was that it was less about (directly) creating more exit flow from SW:GE and more about avoiding creating a log jam in TSL.***

As @peter11435 said, the potential plan is that "upon opening" (which I take to mean the initial N months when SW:GE is at capacity and entrance is controlled and limited to only the Grand Avenue entrance) the TSL entrance will be exit-only. During this time, only some of the people exiting via the TSL exit actually want to visit TSL. For the rest of the people, it's better for Disney to use the Metroville exit to shunt people back to the "hub" instead of flowing them all through TSL. And in the worst case, TSL itself will be capacity-controlled and so you may not want *anyone* from SW:GE to exit into TSL.*

* However, in this case someone is going to have an aneurism because they are going to be forced to stand in two hours long lines to enter different sections of DHS - SW:GE and TSL. **

** Presumably this won't happen because, as everyone knows, TSL was a complete failure. /s

*** Note that if you create a log jam in TSL, you *will* impede exit flow from SW:GE.

That building was torn down to make the TSL entrance.
