In 6 months...ok, 6 weeks, nobody is going to care about this. The people that complained, much like GOTG, will be riding it and begrudgingly enjoying it.
Absolutely, but most of us will always remember the attraction as it was and it's venerated place in the advancement of theme park history. I will not lament that the scene changed, but that changes could not aspire to the quality of the original. Frankly, there had to be a better execution of this revision. Perhaps there wasn't time enough to come up with something more fitting, but I have trouble believing that. So of course we'll keep riding, the attraction retains most of its original brilliance. Even some of the modern enhancements do truly enhance, but not this time.

No offense, but if this is really your view of these boards, then why come on here and have discussions at all? Surely there are better uses of your time and sanity :)

Because just like you I enjoy talking about Disney.... And like you I like to express my opinion... Just because I don't take fan boards all that serious like it appears others do doesn't mean I don't take my Disney fandom seriously.

I don’t disagree with any of that and I believe the imagineers had plenty of time to come up with an idea. Love it or hate it, this was either their best idea or what they could get approved. Pirates is my absolute favorite attraction in any Disney Park I’ve experienced, I wish they would give left it as is including the Depp additions...but that won’t change how much I love the ride. Could they change it at some point so dramatically that my feelings change, entirely possible. That being said, I’ve yet to find a Disney ride that was changed so much that I won’t ride it again.

Is it possible current Disney management does recognize the harm the movie tie-ins did to the original narrative, etc? And now plans to remove them over time with new, more appropriate things in their place, to help with those who could be upset about it? Are the days of Jack Sparrow coming to an end? Is this just wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking... ;)

But there is always hope, so don't lose sight of that.

While I'd really like to see Jack disappear from the ride's finale, my favorite thing they could do is restore the original pirate captain dialogue. All it takes is switching an audio track and a handful of new mouth movements.

Entirely possible. The movies are pretty unpopular now and so is Johnny Deep with a lot of people. I definitely can see the return of the Paul Frees captain in the future.

I doubt they’ll remove Johnny Depp entirely but I can see them minimizing his presence.
