Pirates refurb dates released

Speaking of all these changes and Johnny Depp, the new voice acting in the auction scene is really making me appreciate the voice work for the pooped pirate and the pirate at the well when they redid it in 2006.
Corey Burton can be thanked for one of those. ;) Not sure about the well pirate.

So what do we think the narrative space is for the added scene in the cave? Is he shown transitioning to demonstrate that the treasure is cursed or is it a visual representation of the fact that at this point in the ride we’re going back in time? (I kinda think it might be the latter since he goes from dead -> alive and not the other way around which is maybe more expected)

Anyway I am actually shocked that they removed a 2006 show element and took it back to the original. That gives me some hope for the future. It’s funny (and frustrating) how they still kept the Jones audio on the lift hill though.

At this point pretty much everything that can be said about the new auction scene has been. It’s just so sad how there was an obvious way to make this change while still preserving some of the originality of the original scene but they instead chose to throw it all away and create what is now the worst scene in the ride.

That restoring skeleton illusion in the caverns is really neat and I love it. I think it would help the staging to emphasize the feet a little more, though. Maybe give him oversized boots? The “Where’s his legs?” first impression kind of undermines the gag, whereas making the vignette read better at first glance may do more justice to the concept. I can’t decide yet whether the octopus waving her arms helps or not.

Okay, now that I’m done nit-picking: I love it, I love Octavia, and I love the old caverns dialogue!

And then there’s the auction scene. 😑

In 6 months...ok, 6 weeks, nobody is going to care about this. The people that complained, much like GOTG, will be riding it and begrudgingly enjoying it.

Yeah, right. Mission: Blow Out while a dumb and idiotic overlay with an ugly facade is at least a little fun. The revised auction scene isn’t funny, clever, visually interesting, or memorable. All it does is remind you of what was there before and what a half-hearted job they did changing it. Like Constance Chattaway in the HM attic It’s going to annoy us for a long, long time.

Not only would an audio animatronic in the grottos be completely out of place, there's nothing mind bending or fun about a projection mapping effect in 2018.

There's definitely more than projecting mapping going on in that trick. I've never seen it up close, but from watching the vids I still can't quite tell how they're doing it. It must be a mix of projection and pepper's ghost or something.

The fun little lo-fi thing we just got is also used in Journey Into Imagination over at Epcot -

There were very easy ways to make this scene “PC”, and still preserve most of Paul Frees’ voice work. “Stout-hearted, and corn-fed she be” could have him be referring to a Cow dressed up with makeup, a dress, and a wig. Why? It just fits with the silly tone of the original Pirates. “Shift the cargo” could refer to the boxes of loot they stole and are auctioning. The Redhead could still be a Pirate, the Pirates could still refuse the goods and demand for The Redhead, and she could fire back at them. The only thing that probably couldn’t remain is “No need to expose your superstructure”. As for Jack, just leave him at the end in the treasure room, and take out the other two. Yeah, it’s the worst of the three, but then you remove this “Search for Jack sparrow” plot, while still keeping him in the ride. It’s like I’m the movies, he kinda just shows up out of nowhere, unexpected, with the prize in hand and that’s pretty funny if you ask me.

Went on it yesterday, cave audio was a huge surprise and ride was much better for it. Hadn’t heard that since I was a kid.

The whole ride is lit up a lot better now and areas that were sometimes dark before are now bright. I prefer the new lighting besides the end when the pirates are shooting at eachother (too bright).

The pirate torches as well as the alchol the skeleton drinks in the bar are lit up bright red and really stand out. The pirate with treasure had a reflection shimmering effect of lighting throughout the room.

New scene isn’t bad but is confusing. Not sure what they are doing, people are tied up holding things that are being auctioned? Doesn’t seem well thought out.

When I heard the original cave audio i was hopeful Johnny Depp would be gone too. I see it coming relatively soon though. Deep’s removal may be the one time PC benefits Pirates.

Here are some more (minor) additions:
-Added and refreshed cloud and sky effects throughout the ride.
-More chickens in the turntable/chasing pirates scene.
-More colorful and greener lighting.
-Refreshed costumes and wigs.
-Better audio.

I feel the refurb was a bit of a mixed bag:
Negatives:
-The new scene is a bit.. Eh... It's pretty lackluster. The dialogue is choppy and unnatural. The scene could have been much funnier if they had just revised the script a bit.
-Redd's voice. She sounds IRISH or SCOTTISH! I thought this was supposed to be the CARIBBEAN!!!
Positives:
-Refreshed audio, lighting, and costumes.
-The new "transitional scene" which bridges the gap between the present (skeletons) and the past (PIRATES)!
-The removal of that AWFUL projection on mist effect that hardly ever worked as it was intended. Let's just hope this means the eventual removal of ALL OF DAVY JONES' NARRATION!
(I know I already said this in a separate thread but I feel this is important enough to warrant a repost.)

In all fairness, the buccaneers that raided the Spanish colonies were British so having her be Irish or Scottish isn't that big of a problem imo. It's just so fake and poorly done.

Agreed, I don't know why that is who hard for people, Irish were pirates too. I gave a perfect example of an Irish female pirates that I'm sure was the basis for Redd. As for the fake and poorly done, eh, it seems fine to me.

It’s a combination of many things. The poorly written script, the delivery of the dialogue, and the recycled face of the redhead which is probably the worst thing because she no longer looks like the same character.

All they had to do was change some lines of dialogue and it would’ve been a satisfactory scene. Having the redhead not talk but stand there looking bad like in the Paris version would’ve been a great improvement as well. WDI dropped the ball hard.
