Pirates refurb dates released

The original chase scene was great for a variety of reasons, such as the pirates chasing the more "attractive" mannequins and the obese one actually chasing the one skinny pirate. It's still funny because the turntable effect is so basic and daffy.

While not tame, there's something to be said for the amount of visual humor found in both Pirates of the Caribbean, and Haunted Mansion. It's a shame that Disney doesn't respect that, and basically scrubbed the visual gags from the auction scene in this new one.

"we wants the rum!" = "we wants the red head!"

What's funny about wanting rum over chickens? Wanting a busty redhead over a fat wench is funny.

"strike your feather dearie, show 'em your flock." = "shift yer cargo, dearie, show 'em your larboard side."
What's funny about hens showing their feathers? The original line is the auctioneer telling the fat wench to show off her figure so the pirates would purchase her and he could move on with the auction.

For those critical of the new auction scene;

It sounds as you have an issue with specific dialog about the chickens, is that correct? Are you satisfied with the rest?

And you believe there is too much focus on Redd, and she either needs to say nothing or far less? I personally feel there may now be too much focus on Redd and not enough on the Auctioneer and the rest on the scene. But that could just be due to Redd standing out right now because she never talked or moved before. But I am not sure. It could be more (such as exaggerated movement).

Listen... You’re dissecting trying to find reason and explanation. That’s human nature, I get it. But sometimes things overall just aren’t good and don’t feel right. Like a relationship that lacks chemistry. This is one of those things.

I get more angry about it every time I come to this thread. Pirates bidding for chickens? SMH. I’ve been so focused on the bad voice acting and ugly Redd that I forgot about this ridiculousness.

Have you ridden it yet? Was there opening day- it's amazing how quick any excitement for the new cavern sequence and the return of the old dialogue gets deflated into bitter disappointment.

No not yet. Yeah I can imagine that it takes the wind out yer sails really quick. I can’t believe how bad they missed the mark on this one. What’s the point of preserving the auction scene if you lose Paul Frees’ voice, the attractive Redhead and all of the old dialogue? At that point you ve stripped everything we loved from the scene and remind us how bad it is every time. Just start over at that point and create a brand new scene. They didn’t even bother to make her and the other new AAs fit the caricaturized style of all the others. I don’t get it.

Yeah, it wasn't necessary. I can't disagree with that.

If there is one positive that maybe everyone could see about this new auction scene. It is no longer a nearly identical to the scene right beforehand.

;)

EDIT: You know, a line of townsfolk, of the same gender, each tied together, to be assaulted.

I liked that. It showed what happened to the men of the town and what happened to the women of the town. The new scene raises the question of why didn't those men in line go to be dunked in the well?

It is humorous because they're Pirates and everyone knows they love Rum.

As for the second, you need to look through it, and know what the auctioneer is really talking about. But for the generations to come, that don't know the past dialogue of this scene, it may indeed not be humorous.

So what's the joke? Pirates like rum? Pirates also like gold! That's not a joke! If the pirate and a monkey were fighting over a bottle of rum it'd be a joke because A. he loves rum so much he'll fight a monkey over it and B. because monkeys don't drink rum that's just silly. But a pirate exclaiming he wants rum? Who cares!

Larboard just means left side of the ship. He's saying show 'em your larboard side meaning show them your left side ie her figure. He's trying to get her sold and failing but can't because she's fat. That's funny.

One can assume they already have enough rum to last a lifetime. Why do they need to buy more?

And I don’t buy the explanation that the new dialogue is funny because of how it references the old dialogue. That’s the sort of half-baked storytelling that resulted in this disaster of a scene. Change the scene completely or don’t change it at all.

This scene was there for 50 years without anyone withering away after being subjected to it, so at the very least they could have held off on updating it until they were able to come up with something decent to take it's place.

It's almost like they were rushed and just had to settle for what is there now to be able to make some deadline.
I wish that were the case, but honestly I bet we WDWMagic posters could have come up with a better scene in an hour of brainstorming. They had plenty of time to come up with something better.

But those Pirates are less capable, too drunk and unarmed, to steal the food themselves, and would rather just participate in the auction. ;)

If they really wanted to change the auction scene they should've just added this.

But if we want to talk about rum jokes in POTC, here are some hilarious ones by Marc Davis.

Because Redd knows the Auctioneer is wasting his time. Just as before. And announces that out loud.
The only way that would be funny is if the Auctioneer shot at her for opening her mouth against him the same way the pirate would shoot at the pirates demanding the redhead. Of course, there goes the PC with that.

How can anyone object to pirates behaving like pirates in a ride called Pirates of the Caribbean, whose very theme song boasts of the evil, un-pc things pirates do???????????????????? It's not called freaking Peace Corps Volunteers of the Caribbean! I guess torturing the fat Mayor is still okay because he's a guy? They should just redo the whole ride and have the Pirates crocheting oven mitts and finding homes for puppies.

Why isn't anyone complaining about the horrible sights and sounds that happen during any given non-Disney park's Halloween Haunt? Very, very non-PC stuff happening there, folks! But I guess it's okay because people expect horrific things at a horror night. But heaven forbid a clearly-labled ride about murderous pirates portray murderous pirate behavior...
(Deep breath) I, too, however, wouldn't mind the auction scene being completely replaced by something GOOD instead of STUPID.
