Pirates refurb dates released

See this is what I don't get. The Paris version, from the perspective of the average viewer, would appear to the be the "cheapest" due to the low-tech AA Redd character, yet there's a segment of people here arguing that it's the better version. I don't understand y'all sometimes. *shrugs*

Of course you don't. It's not about advanced AAs that can flail their arms while spouting the cringiest of dialogue. It's about the content and how it fits within the bigger picture. This new scene is a train wreck on multiple levels.

Technology, in the case, is just a tool to tell a story. If the story is no good, the technology is irrelevant. It's the same reason why, as incredible as the Shaman audio animatronic in Pandora is, I couldn't care less about Navi River Journey. I mean, I'm in love with that new addition to the grotto and it's nothing more than a simple mirror trick. The classic two way mirror for the Hitchhiking Ghosts is way cooler than what the MK has. Just because the technology is better doesn't mean it's right.

I think this is something that the industry as a whole is struggling with. Flashy tech that's easy to wow and advertise is taking a precedent over a strong narrative focus.

It's the same problem I have with Star Tours The Adventures Continue, Fantasmic 2017, the Transformers ride at Universal, and Mission Breakout. Stuffing projections and 3D randomized screens to create an artificial need to ride the ride multiple times can weaken the ride if not done properly.

Mission Breakout has a cool animatronic, random screens and multiple ride profiles- but as a result, the experience is like popcorn. Tastes good, but doesn't have any depth and doesn't stick with you. Tower of Terror worked much better in creating a "complete" experience, even if it wasn't as fun as the current iteration is.

To criticize something; the new animatronic in La Catina looks oddly complacent (he was just robbed) and the new Auction banner placement is terrible (perhaps it blocked the view of the above).

So it came to my attention, as I watched this video, La Catina signage didn't exist beforehand, and the quoted new animatronic within, used to actually be the Pirate next to the Redhead.

And for those interested, that same video, points out some interesting (and near exclusively positive) changes you may not have noticed, from artistic changes to lighting to draw attention to specific things, to the improved rearranged placement of items. I applaud the Imagineers responsible; great job!

If those critical of the new auction scene were able to move past the reason for the changes and just be objective; you would see Disney could really not have done a better job. We should hope these same Imagineers go on to improve upon the other PC changes of the past, with the same respect and care. And remove every other movie tie-in as well.
That is not true at all. I fully supported changing the old scene but feel they did an awful job on the new. The dialogue about chickens is cringe worthy. If there isn't the skill base in the imagineering department to write a comedic scene then they should have outsourced the job.

I wonder how difficult it would be to update the dialogue.

Here's my quick how to on how to fix the scene:

1. Redesign the redhead to match Marc Davis's style
2. Have the redhead stand there and speak with her body language rather than her words
3. Replace the audio track of the Auctioneer with Paul Frees's voice work as well as have the pirates on the sides chant "We want the redhead!"
4. Replace the French nobles with a line of women (in night gowns!) on their way to being sold off as brides

Voila!

They would just need to record new dialogue and rework the animation. Not that difficult at all. Unfortunately even if the dialogue was great the scene would still suck. They really need to make a new face mask for this Redd character. Using an old face mask from The Great Movie Ride was bad enough in WDW. DL deserves better. We should’ve gotten the Paris version.

What's most puzzling is that the new guy in the grotto as well as the French nobles being lined up all look fine imo.

It seems they did a nice job with all the little details but had no say when it came to Redd and the godawful dialogue track. They didn’t even have a budget to make an original face mask. So DL got a copy of a recycled face mask from a ride which was based on an actress from an old Tarzan movie from the 30s. The family should sue.

I just hope whenever I’m on the ride I don’t get to hear her say her cringey Yo Ho line. I rather be stuck in front of Constant Chataway in the HM attic for an hour then hear that.

Bring a pair of headphones and play the original audio track on your phone as you pass through.

For those critical of the new auction scene;

It sounds as you have an issue with specific dialog about the chickens, is that correct? Are you satisfied with the rest?

And you believe there is too much focus on Redd, and she either needs to say nothing or far less? I personally feel there may now be too much focus on Redd and not enough on the Auctioneer and the rest on the scene. But that could just be due to Redd standing out right now because she never talked or moved before. But I am not sure. It could be more (such as exaggerated movement).
