Pirates refurb dates released

In the long forgotten blog, they actually discuss a prop in the seance room that was removed for the first HMH and never restored.

It was then that my tolerance for the mansions 5 month closure every year turned into a bitter hatred rivaled only by my feelings on Fantasmic 2017.

If those critical of the new auction scene were able to move past the reason for the changes and just be objective; you would see Disney could really not have done a better job. We should hope these same Imagineers go on to improve upon the other PC changes of the past, with the same respect and care. And remove every other movie tie-in as well.

They actually could have done a much better job. A few of us haven’t mentioned the reason behind the horrible change and simply talked about the horrible execution. It’s trash.

We shouldn’t hope for anything you mentioned. We should rebuke it.

Not reaaaallllllyyyy. The look and voice of the Redhead combined with the overall cringe-worthy dialogue...there was massive room for improvement.

If those fans of the new "Reddhead" and the auction scene would look past the obvious pandering on the part of Disney, they would see that Disney could have done a much better job. We should hope these same imagineers aren't allowed to touch the ride any more.

The new scene could clearly have been done better.

Lol, not.

There's a number of other options they could have taken with this change. They just went for the least expensive and poorly written one.

Here's what I posted in another thread:

"Replace the two pirates on the bridge with two new characters; a dashing swordsman of a pirate and a clearly outmatched member of the town. Keep all the other characters the same except the redhead (now an expert fencer). The auctioneer would be taking bets on who would win, and ask if they want to see "this lass" take on the next winner. The crowd on the other side would then shout "we wants the readhead!". Meanwhile, the women (no longer in ropes) swoon over the obvious winner, except one who's clearly upset to see her husband lose.

This scene would have kept nearly all the characters and staging of the original, removed any references to selling women and given us a cool new character to bring even more animation to the scene. That and retaining the most iconic line of dialogue.

That this chicken debacle is the best WDI could come up with is very disappointing. The ride and its guests deserve better."

And it should be noted that at DLP Red's face looks better, she doesn't talk and instead of chickens the Auctioneer is selling jewels, pearls, gold etc.

Again, Disney could have done better with this concept, or something else altogether. They made the choice not to.

So choosing to preserve the auction is bad?

When the whole experience is based on theatrics, things like costumes, line delivery, animation and figure sculpts are important.
I don't believe those are unsatisfactory.

Are you sure the real problem isn't the political agenda and how Redd has been made into an empowered woman? It has begun to feel that way.

Paris' version of the change is better than USA's so yes, they could've done better.
What? How? ...

For what it is worth, they did a better job in Orlando than in Paris, for what they were trying to accomplish. As, in Orlando, there is much better focus on what exactly is being sold, with one person holding a large grandfather clock, another holding a large portrait, etc. Just as in the original concept art, but did not actually materialize in Paris. Even the Gypsy is no more, and the other re-skins don't look as rushed. And the English dialog about feathers and hens or whatever and how everyone in-line is old now could even suggest humorous things. Wait a second! Disney better scrap this as well then, as that would be extrapolating the context of what is actually going on here, just as before.

The prop "humor" of the US version is painfully unfunny. Oh, look at that guy carrying a grandfather clock! He's carrying a chandelier! Ha ha! It's so stupid. I hate it. Parisian version has the selling livestock, food, and jewelry which makes some sense. Also there's the fact the US version has the civilians dressed up as French nobles when they should be in pajamas as all the rest of the civilians are in the ride. Lastly, the redhead doesn't have terrible voice acting because she has no voice. She blends in with the ride instead of sticking out like a sore thumb. Definitely helps that the redhead's design in Paris isn't incredibly realistic and blends in with the Marc Davis designed, Blaine Gibson sculpted figures far better, as well. I can't comment on the voice acting for the auctioneer in Paris since I don't speak French, but the new voice actor for him here is so forgettable and it's made all the more painful since it replaced Paul Frees's iconic voice.

You got me. Women are useless and exist only to make babies and cook food. That's exactly why I hate this change. We must abolish women's suffrage and other women's rights. Nothing makes me feel better about myself as a man than seeing animatronic women being sold to animatronic pirates.

Knock it off with these brainless accusations.

See this is what I don't get. The Paris version, from the perspective of the average viewer, would appear to the be the "cheapest" due to the low-tech AA Redd character, yet there's a segment of people here arguing that it's the better version. I don't understand y'all sometimes. *shrugs*

Technology, in the case, is just a tool to tell a story. If the story is no good, the technology is irrelevant. It's the same reason why, as incredible as the Shaman audio animatronic in Pandora is, I couldn't care less about Navi River Journey. I mean, I'm in love with that new addition to the grotto and it's nothing more than a simple mirror trick. The classic two way mirror for the Hitchhiking Ghosts is way cooler than what the MK has. Just because the technology is better doesn't mean it's right.
