I thoroughly enjoyed that part. :lookaroun

In all seriousness, I thought about that too, but then I decided there was no better way to do it. The moves are deeply inspired by the old pirate legends and nautical tales, in which mermaids were usually described or depicted as topless, so it seems only appropriate to have the movie depict them accordingly. The mermaids of legend were always sort of characters/objects of sensuality and desire, like the Greek sirens, and just strapping seashell bras on all of them would just give them the sanitized feel of the Little Mermaid. In general, I thought the movie did a good job of balancing the sensuality with a need to remain kid-friendly.

Just my $0.02.

Again, I will point out that it's PG-13 for a reason. If someone takes their kids to see it, they should respect that.

My (female) friend actually complained after the fact that it was unrealistic how any shot of the mermaid (I forget her name...) had her hair PERFECTLY placed over her chest; said it made the production look fake. (Obviously Disney wasn't going to do full frontal, but i see her point.)

Saw Pirates Yesterday...Quickie review

SPOILERS AHEAD

I loved it. Admittedly I am a huge Depp fan, and, I think the first Pirates movie is one of the top 3 movies ever made. So take anything I say from that perspective.

The plot line in this was so much better and easier to follow then 2 or 3. Everyone is searching for the fountain of youth, but all for different reasons. Jack is simply doing it to recover the pearl, Barbosa to exact revenge, ect... I enjoyed this aspect of the story line. The action sequences were well done, and didn't seem to drag on and on like in the 2nd and the 3rd.

The biggest improvement from 3 to 4 however, is the amount of time Jack is on screen. Without Will and Elizabeth to weigh the story down, we were able to get much more Jack. And really, isn't he the reason anyone goes to see these movies?

If I had one complaint it would be that it was too dark. I saw it in 2D, as I HATE 3D. And the movie was still very dark, I can't imagine how bad it would have been with 3D glasses cutting down 85% of the brightness. Thankfully I shall never know.

Best line of the movie for me, was when Jack attempts the mutiny against Blackbeard, then subsquently gets hung upside down right in Blackbeard's face. "I wish to report a mutiny" Classic.

Overall I would give this movie 3 out of 4 stars. Highly recommended.

The mermaids had flesh colored scales over thier chest so that didn't strike me as "a bit much" on Disney's part. The racey comments were surprising for me though. I also thought to myself "how many kids are gonna have nightmares about Ariel now". LOL...those mermaids were pretty vicious. The scene where she drags one of the crew members under and the blood starts to spread in the water was kinda' hardcore.

Just got back, and I really enjoyed it. A much more modest adventure type of film, which was really refreshing.

yeah I too felt like this was more of an old fashioned and staight up Pirate movie.

I loved that they added another ride scene in the movie :D Did anyone else catch it?

Was it when Jack said "It's a Pirates life for me" at the end of the movie? That's all I can recall.

Did anyone stay until the end of the credits? :D

But of course; it's a necessity for a POTC movie (as well as for a Marvel AVENGERS-related movie).

#5 should be fun.

I have not seen the California version of the ride, but have seen enough pictures and footage to understand the visual reference in Stranger Tides.

if im not mistaken, it was the skeleton in the bed scene

I thought the movie was a solid B. I would rank the movies as follows:

1. Curse of the Black Pearl
2. Dead Man's Chest (tie)
2. On Stranger Tides (tie)
4. At World's End

I noticed that I did not miss Will & Elizabeth either and loved Penelope Cruz in this role.

Spoiler Alert:

What does everyone think happened to Phillip since they left that completely open?

I'm guessing we find out more about the Queen's Revenge with Barbossa in command Movie #5.

Possible 5th & 6th films:

The actors playing in the fourth film were told by Disney not to occupy their time in the near future, as the studio intends to shoot a fifth and sixth film back-to-back. On January 14, 2011, it was confirmed that Terry Rossio will write the screenplay for the fifth installment, without his co-writer Ted Elliott. Johnny Depp said that he would be happy to return as Captain Jack Sparrow saying "As long as we can put all the puzzle pieces together, I would most definitely consider it". Jerry Bruckheimer said that the fifth film would be a standalone film. According to Terry Rossio the script for the fifth film is finished and he has handed the script to Disney executives. Speaking at the fourth film's press launch in Cannes, Depp said he would play the role for as long as it is popular with the public.

There was another part I think may have been taken from the ride. Barbossa at one point was yelling at his crew and called them all "bloomin' cockroaches". That was something which Blackbeard yelled to his crew in the original version of the ride, before his animatronic was taken out and replaced by Barbossa. Maybe a kind of in-joke on the screenwriters' part?

Pirates 4 had the best overseas weekend box office of the franchise, despite the fact that it didn't earn as much domestically as Burbank would have liked. I hope this bodes well for Pirates 5.

Burbank was hoping for more than a $90.5 opening? What kind of opening were they hoping for!? They should be glad that the film was made on a significantly lower budget than AWE but earned almost as much on opening weekend...

They were hoping for $100+, but I agree, they should be happy with what they got.

The short review....Not quite as good as 1 but much better than 2 and 3.....and I liked 2 and 3.

I saw it the other night and I completely agree with you. The Curse of the Black Pearl is still the best film in the franchise but I enjoyed On Stranger Tides more than the other two films, and like you, I really enjoyed 2 and 3.
