hey everyone, thanks for the continued feedback, great discussion going on here. i wanted to clarify something, again...

i didnt post pictures of anything that i thought would "ruin" the magic for whomever wanted to preserve the dark magic of the ToT mostly because there wasnt much to take a picture of that could do such a thing, and also because itd be rude. also, please note the title of the thread, i identified clearly what the thread contents would be, thus, if anyone came into this thread and had the magic ruined, well its not my fault they cant read!

more to the topic: i posted the pictures mostly because i found the architecture, detail and design of the building to be really interesting. for those of us who arent like the cool kids and experience backstage on a regular basis, getting a glimpse at how the buildings are constructed and the thought that goes into them is in fact a rare treat. i dont know whats in the little storage area, but while i was standing there taking the pictures two non-costumed cast members walked by and said hello, and went up those stairs you see and into a door. im guessing there are some offices in the lower part of the building that are meeting points for those who work in the parks on a professional non hourly basis. i dont know.

I for one would not have things ruined for me(I am 33 and yes I know Sandy :xmas: Claus isn't real NB-XMAS reference now in theatres near you!! )by seeing the backstages.I like to see how things run and see the other aspect of things.I agree with not interupting cast members on their break but to take a pic of a backside of a building isn't like a major crime in my book.I also don't think the OP was trying to do anything other than be curious which we all are at some point or other.

Man, back stage is very dry and boring. You would think they would at least try to make it look a little interesting and pleasant for the cast members. That is one thing about the service industry (whether it is theme parks, hotels or restaurants) it is all about making things look good on stage. Forget about how a decent back stage area might make an employee feel.
When I worked in the hotel industry and had a rough day dealing with guest concerns, it definitely did not make me feel any better walking through the back hallways. It smelled bad, the lighting was very depressing and the white paint on the walls made me feel like I was in an emergency room:cry:. Sorry for getting off topic with the tirade:D

Uh, it's Universal. Not Disney. Sorry for being a normal Cast Member and wanting to preserve the Magic, whether it be "taking a peek backstage" or actually doing something more than that. It's not only preserving the magic, but safety as well. Why do you think they don't allow cameras on the tours? Apparently on Sept. 11, they found someone in the tunnels taking pictures. So, that's all I have to say about that. Also, like redwingchick said, backstage is a place for Cast Members to get away from the hustle and bustle of the parks, a place where they can get time off stage. When you go wandering back there, it's up to them to take you back on stage because you "got lost". The pictures are the same as if you took pictures behind Wal-Mart. There's dumpsters, cars, etc. Nothing special. If you want to ruin the magic, be my guest. But, i'm done here.

I really doubt the Sept 11th rumor. People say all kinds of things, but that's pretty darn silly. You can get a map of the tunnels easily and once you're in them they have maps telling you how to get around.

Also, they dont allow pics on backstage tours because they know that most people on a tour have no idea what they're looking at. However, someone takes pics and the secret is out. No one else in my tour group knew we were staring at prototype SSE vehicles with the new screens. Becuase I knew it and wrote it here, everyone knew, however, if i hadn't known and just snapped a photo - someone here would have pointed it out. I'm sure there are things I missed on the tour.

Prime example: Costume renderings in the costume building. I didn't have time to really look at them, but if i had taken a photo we would have a huge discussion with image enhancement and we'd have known about new costumes months in advance.

You're kidding right? Cast Members aren't even allowed backstage on their off days, no Guest has a right to go backstage, even you should know that. If they get hurt back there, or god forbid see something they shouldn't be seeing (i've had it happen) then they can get in serious trouble.
Unless i'm reading it wrong, he's saying that the guest has every right to take pictures of the backstage area.

You know what, it isn't that big of a deal. However, i've seen guests peek backstage and play dumb when there was a sign saying, "CAST MEMBERS ONLY" and see things that they didn't want to see.

You were reading it wrong...I was very much so kidding. I HATE any time backstage pictures show up...we have spent over 50 years working to keep the magic alive and in a few posts it can be blown away.

I'm pretty sure it was sarcasm. I think he's on your side.

At that point, it isn't only magic-ruining, it's also potentially dangerous. What if a guest walked right in front of a float in motion?

Seriously people, don't go backstage unless you're on a tour.

Yeah, because shelling out loads of money for a few days of fun doesn't blow the magic away already.

Keeping backstage closed off when guests are in the park is great and should be done. Posting a few innocuous pics on a forum full of diehard WDW fans, not a big deal. I'm pretty sure all of us here understand the Disney is a business, wonder why Goofy and his "close friend" are never seen together, and know that not everything is Rainbows and Ponies on property. We don't need to throw that stuff in their face when there here, but when they are looking for interesting things while sitting at home between trips, why not? If we can't bring them right back into the magic when they get here then obviously Disney and the CMs have failed at that point.

It's kind of hard to read sarcasm over a computer. Nevertheless, thank you for agreeing. Whether it's just a dumpster or something, I believe that no matter what it is, backstage is for CM's only.

If there was construction around ToT none of you would have even questioned it.

Behind refurb walls is backstage too ya know. Heck, more backstage then most areas since only approved people are allowed back there.

You missed it last week, they kicked a drunk girl out of the Hoopla! because she was chasing Emil around the Library acting like a bull and ran on stage after him. Graves escorted her out as everyone cheered :) lol
