Pic of Splash Mountain lap bars......

I have no problem with adding the bars except that these really aren't going to do much for little kids. I realize it wasn't the main reason for installation but similar to thunder mtn young children feel better when they sit next to a parent, but the bar doesn't come down far enough so it ends up causing more anxiety for them in the end. We are just slightly overweight adults and our kids were always very concerned about the lap bars on BTMR. Seems like individual bars would have been a better way to go imo.

...they've removed those overly large smelly handgrips...
:sohappy:

I'm glad they put in the lap bars. Now my sister won't have an excuse not to go on it. She's been on it before but was always afraid of the big drop and possibly falling out. Now she can go without worry! :D

"With an equal number of stupid tourists who think that at the first time of a ride stoppage, they are free to jump out of the log and go wandering about inside the mountain"

People do this?
Yes. At a rate that astounds me. They don't even wait for a ride stop some of the time.

If it makes the ride safer and limits the amount of stoppage on the ride...I'm all for it. I just hope this means shorter lines since there won't be as much stopping.

This is much to do about nothing. How many people here have ever experienced ride stoppage as a result of someone leaving their boat? There is an exponential number of ride stoppages [delays] as a result of needing to load/unload guests with disabilities. :brick:

It happens more often than you think.

And this is "much ado about nothing."

A ton. And I'll bet most people who have made plenty of visits have, as well, without realizing it.

Talk to Splash CMs. I know, I date one.

Also, it's not just people getting out, it's people standing up.

I think it happens more than most guests would think--and that is because Disney does its job well. They don't announce it to everyone when the ride stops because we don't need to know it is happening. CMs state that it happens all the time and until the message changes to "Looks like Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear are beating the crap out of a stupid guest," we guests will never know.

I trust it happens enough to warrant the capital investment required to retrofit all of the logs with these lap bars.

The ride is going to be majorly gross now with lap bars. Its already gross enough from the water that covers the seats and the floor but now some soaking wet lap bar is going to add to the discomfort.

Bring along a few spare napkins if it's such an issue for you. It'll be no more "gross" than when that smelly, damp hand grip we had to deal with all these years.

If anything, I would guess a metal lapbar will harbor fewer bacteria than a spongy hand grip...

Can't see them in the first picture, but that second one really shows them off. They're smaller than I thought they would be which is good. In fact, now that they've removed those overly large smelly handgrips, it alsmot looks like there's more space (though its probably just an illusion).

Oh well, they're a necessary eveil at this point, so no sense in getting all worked up about them. On the plus side, the logs themselves look great; looks like they gave them a quick paint job while they were at it with the lapbars.

I don't THINK I'll mind the lapbars. We'll see. From the pics it does appear that the logs got some TLC. When I rode in December I noticed the smell and stickiness of the pads. I won't miss that!
