This is much to do about nothing. How many people here have ever experienced ride stoppage as a result of someone leaving their boat?

*raises hand* Me!

Happened on the boat I was on, as a matter of fact.

It started with the idiots standing up.
Standing up to take flash pictures.
Standing up to throw wads of paper at the AAs.

Then when they stopped the ride for the third time, and the CM Voice came on over the speakers to tell them to pretty much sit the hell back down, one of them used this time to step out onto the ledge, while his friends laughed, took pics and threw stuff at him.

He got right back in after that, but the boat was still delayed for another five minutes, while they all pretended to not understand what the Voice, or the other people in the log were saying (or by this point, screaming) to them.

Maybe they actually didn't understand English.

But it's not really an excuse to behave badly. It was pretty much the worst ever time on my favorite ride.

In those instances, Disney security should be waiting at the end of the ride to escort those moronic guests out. :drevil:

I noticed this a lot during my trip earlier this month--people who did not speak English (or pretended to not speak English) behaving horribly. And these weren't kids--adults. Maybe I'm being ridiculous, but I think you should learn a little English before traveling to America. I would not go to France without learning a word of French.

I completely agree. We even complained to the guest services.

But these particular morons were the tail end of a large tour group (who were in all the logs ahead of us)

I can only hope that their friends in that group admonished them for ruining their ride too.

Doesn't matter to me either way. But I don't think I've ever been on splash mt. with the exception of maybe once, that the ride stopped thanks to some idiot jumping off. I've heard stories though, but either way this is nothing bad or 'whine inducing' for me.

I don't see why everyone is up in arms over this. Pick your battles, guys. If you ____ about everything, it renders your complaints about the truly significant things less meaningful.

In any case, I think this is a positive change. I can't count the number of times I've been stuck on Splash Mountain because someone got off during the ride (seriously, it has been far too many).

People are ALWAYS standing up on it WHILE the ride is moving or going down a hill. I mean who is THAT stupid?

I think it happens more than most guests would think--and that is because Disney does its job well. They don't announce it to everyone when the ride stops because we don't need to know it is happening. CMs state that it happens all the time and until the message changes to "Looks like Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear are beating the crap out of a stupid guest," we guests will never know.

I trust it happens enough to warrant the capital investment required to retrofit all of the logs with these lap bars.
Exactly. Every single thing in this post is correct.

I agree completely. The ones that are upset are probably the ones hopping out....

Is it possible to see the lap bars in the first one? I can't see them :-( Though perhaps that's a good thing.

I put both pics because it better shows the new configuration. You can't see the actual lap bars in the first [or in the much-vaunted ScreamScape pic].

i remember the first time me and my dad went on splash mountain. it stopped with the message playing. we were stuck right next to a water fall for about half an hour; soaked when we got off. i wonder if that was due to technical or some idiot jumping out the log. i don't get it! why do it? fools.

My last time on Splash, I seriously contemplated jumping off - but for medical not mischievious reasons. It was all smiles until the first teaser drop...then (unbeknownst and unexpected) EXTREME sinus pressure. :dazzle: I spotted several exits onstage but was afraid of making it successfully from my boat to the door! Anticipating the subsequent drops was quite possibly one of the worst feelings I've ever experienced. Needless to say that was THE LAST time I ever rode! It's been 10 years lol.

If I had decided to jump, I wonder if the CMs would have sympathized? How frequent is it that guests jump off out of fear/sickness?

that shouldn't be a viable option. If you are scared on any other ride, you have to stay on until the ride ends.

I know exactly the waterfall you're talking about, after the main drop before the riverboat scene. At least it's one thing that they've fixed... I believe if the ride has an E-stop, the waterfall turns off (or at least slows down to a trickle).

Whether or not "larger" guests will be comfortable or not will be officially settled when I park my corpulent posterior on the log next week. It's still scheduled to reopen next week, isn't it?

I think this is true. I work at Splash Photo & I can not tell you how many times we have gone 101 & guests come up to us in the store asking what happened & even we have no idea. I'm sure 9 times out of 10, someone tried to get up & out & it went down. It happens plenty, sadly

Hey,

We are visiting with my girlfriends nephew this week and its his first visit to the world / magic kingdom (he's almost 4 years old). We visited this past Monday and saw the logs being tested without people in them.

What are the odds that the ride may reopen a day or so early, say by this Saturday before we leave (I remember for space mountain the had "pre-opening" live tests with guests)? I don't suppose a cast member could give the likelihood unofficially? Hehe.

Here's hoping... His eyes are wide with excitement each time he sees a log drop down the hill, Im sure he'd love it! :)
