Yes I prefer the country design. Where does it say I cannot like a piece of the urban design( the elevated track or roadway) and not care for or like the entire package??

Do you guys think Disney Springs will have Disney theming like it does now, or will it be more of a generic upscale shopping complex?

Upscale shopping and entertainment district sprinkled with Disney Magic.

And possibly a tackle shop selling worms and live crickets. Heh. :D

What is with the railroad track platforms. If I were one of the execs and this was presented to me, I'd slap their face and fire them on the spot.

Yeah good question, What is up with it??

The video started out with him explaining that the entire DTD area was a bunch of mis-themed areas put together and that the new Disney Springs was well though out and using a single theme to tie in the entire DTD property. This single theme was based on the development of communities in Florida developing around the clear spring located throughout the state. Funny thing is that there are no elevated trains in Florida. So how does this Highline fit into a central Florida community? What about park pavilions around the spring for seating or something that would fit the theme. :banghead:

On an another note, I think the addition of elevated seating and seating under the cover of this elevated track structure or structures will be a nice addition to what is currently there, but don't lay on the story of how this new development plan is so much more cohesive. I may need my boots.

"This venue never had a story in three decades."

Yeah, except for, you know, that ridiculously elaborate backstory involving Merriweather Adam Pleasure that encompassed every club and store in Pleasure Island, as well as Portabellos, the Empress Lily, Typhoon Lagoon, the Grand Floridian ...

But I guess they need a better creation myth than "And Iger saw the Premium Outlet Mall, and saw that it was profitable, and thus he chose to clone it."

I never knew PI had a backstory and I still managed to have a few real good times there. Why does a shopping center and cluster of restaurants even need a story? Shouldn't it just be a place to shop and eat?

Boy, does it look boring. Even in 3D walkthrough it still looks just like any other upscale mall. Those bland, grey-washed walls make it look rather uninviting when compared to something like Millenia that looks great from the outside.

I'm amazed that 'imagineer' could rattle off that dull as ditchwater story with a straight face. "Imagine if a Florida town grew up around the springs then overnight turned into shops and dining."

Erm, yeah whatever man, I'll stick to Merryweather Pleasure and the Adventurers Society if it's all the same, thanks.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
I saw the concept art on the construction walls on August the 8th... Holy guacamole that was hot day.. Not to mention that exhausting really long walk between both sides of Downtown Disney with nothing but that mexican restaurant in-between!

If it turns out 50% as great as the art work shows, it is going to be amazing!;)

If it turns out 50% as great as the artwork it will be a random shopping center… It looks no more special than The Grove in Hollywood… well the Grove actually has a trolly system to transport guests which this does not have…Don't get me wrong, it looks nice, but it is by no means amazing…they must be holding back on all the Wow features...

The boats are likely similar to the small boats that now run in WDW, with what looks to me to be 1957 body over it.....interesting possibilities!.;)

I love the idea of the raised track or maybe more like a raised highway, EI the old West Side Highway on Manhattan.

The 2 level idea is great, providing extra walking space and maybe table and chairs, small food stands.

Personally the guy that came up with that idea should get a promotion and raise!

The more you look at the art would the more interesting things show up.:)

You must work for Disney…and came up with the faux high line idea…. Seriously I have seen tons of lifestyle shopping centers that are made to look like old towns… wow they are going to call the drainage ditch a spring.
spectacular.

If you watch this video at 1/4 speed (settings tab on the bottom right of the video player) there is a ton of detail you can see. It looks pretty cool but it also looks like an enormous shopping mall. I'm wondering just how much retail Disney guests can really support. I mean sure they will catch the Brazilian tour groups which will jump at the chance to save money not renting a bus to take the brats to Florida mall but who else? The area is already flooded with malls.

I'm really impressed with what they have built so far but i'm worried it will not be sustainable long term much like the case with Pleasure Island.

It is a shopping center. Anyone expecting more deserves to be disappointed. Who needs a backstory for a shopping center...bizarre:)
