-Disney wants $
-More people=More $
-In a few weeks 25% of this country should be fully vaccinated and another 15-25% partially, those people are going to be willing to take more risks.
-Those people are going to give Disney more leniency on the safety issue and thus allow Disney to make changes that increase capacity.
-Increased capacity=Increased $
I don't see it happening in a few weeks.

A lot of people think epcot is hurting for attendance, but I wouldn’t say that’s true the last month or so. It’s been looking like pre Covid crowds there for a while now. It may not be fully booked, but I don’t think opening rat right now is going to add any meaningful revenue to make it worth the chaos it will create with current guidelines. Maybe a special ticketed event would be good for world showcase, keep all the attractions open, some food and shops, do a firework show, and ride rat. Boom: $$$.

That’s not a “special ticket event”....it’s paying twice for normal things.

And as others have noted: they chose to not take Epcot seriously for going on 25 years. “Quitting” is the standard operating procedure in that park unless everyone shows up and overpays for every booth.

It’s not sustainable...stop

It seems as if the crowds are there pretty consistently now. What is the reasoning behind not opening up all the food locations (MK, AK, all of them) and shops? Or in the hotels, why still so many restaurants closed?

Is it really the demand isn't there? Because it seems like people are starting to ask for more food. 😂

They’re not even close to crowd levels. And they likely won’t be this year.

I’ll remind that a large amount of their Hotel rooms are still closed. And outside of wdw it’s likely a wasteland.

Who’s traveling?

I’ll be there next week. As will a lot of people, apparently, because there is no park pass availability for non-AP and even then M-W is booked solid. Not looking forward to the crowds at all.

Just been thinking -- Harmonious and Rat will open at the same time. Don't know when, but for crowd control, opening at the same time is key.
Why would opening 2 new attractions make for better crowds than just opening one? Because they will split visitors, at critical closing time.
If Rat were to open without Harmonious, you could have a 2+ hour line as of park closing. But since fireworks typically occur *after* official park closing, guests at the end of the day will have to choose between Harmonious and riding the Rat. This should keep the line for the Rat down at park close.
(And this is a major benefit of the night time entertainment at every park -- takes people off the attraction lines as the park closes).

That’s “some”...not a lot.

No internationals...no passes...limited capacity and hours...flight traffic way down...hotel occupancy way down

Numbers is numbers.

“Everything is fine! Guests are showing up in huge numbers, and generating great per-guest margins! We have no demand problems, and will probably double ticket prices since demand is up so much! Guests obviously LOVE what we’re doing!!!”

That’s what I think, Rat will open with Harmonious... or EF.

Shareholder's meeting just ended. Rat will open Oct 1.

Now, do you reserve a park reservation for the MK or Ep on that day, vloggers?

What's the current best guess on Rat? We are going in late October as well.

We don't know.

Insiders have been saying March to May (more towards March).

But... there are signs that WDW might not want to open Rat earlier than later due to giant queues that come from distancing.

But... WDW had been saying "Summer."

But... there was previous talk of waiting until fully opening after COVID restrictions are gone.

But... no one knows when that will be. Lot's of guessing based on rate of vaccinations and when we hit herd immunity.

But... herd immunity, while brought about by immunizations, is not a "known known" for this *novel* virus. It could be 60% immunizied, or 70%, or 80%.

And we know that insider knowledge can become undone if Disney changes their minds. Which they do even outside of the uncertainties of a pandemic. Even more so now.

So... best guess is not to guess.

Thats a easy answer IMO lol. MKs official Anniversary day is a once in a lifetime event. Rat? It’ll be there for many years.

Possible future announcements such as Harmonious debuting Oct 1 could make things interesting though.

Honestly... this is a definite disappointment.

It appears they are holding it back, solely so they can have *something* semi-big tied directly to the 50th Anniversary.

But to me, this sets it up for failure. It's not exactly an E-ticket attraction, it's a clone of a Euro-Disney ride. So it's not truly big and not truly new.

It's.. "we celebrate 50 years of Magic by giving you this fairly good ride cloned from our European park!"

I don't blame them from holding back. At current 35% capacity, they're hitting that capacity. There's no need to draw more people until the capacity is raised and distancing is dropped.

If they open Rat now, they'll need to plexiglass the vehicles and queues and manage a super long line.

1. Epcot isn't hitting that 35%.
2. They likely can increase capacity significantly over the summer, if they choose. Even "blue states" are having restaurants start to return to 75-100% capacity in March/April.
3. The choice isn't "now or October." Summer would be a great time to try to draw people into Epcot.
4. Sure, the Rat would have a super long line. But that would draw people away from other super long lines at Epcot and even at other parks. So that's a good thing.
