News Park attendance showing significant softness heading into the Fall 2018

I kinda feel like we're in an interlude on the original thread topic where everything brought up has been discussed and we're waiting for new developments to fuel additional recriminations. Until then I, for one, am ok with some peripheral discussions about Star Wars IP because I do think it will be a factor in the parks. For instance, I could see SW:GE as being a rare actual strategic move to get a different set of visitors into the parks. I'd love to see it not increase profitability over the short-term because they've decided to push up the quality of the experience and have labor-intensive live-action characters in the park. Or for them to spend so much money on low-capacity attractions and an immersive land that it takes a decade to recoup the capital investment.

I found Solo to be more enjoyable than episode Seven.

I feel so isolated.
Solo wasn't perfect but I actually enjoyed it more than TLJ as well. The characters - even the peripheral ones, were much more interesting. The biggest thing it suffered from for me is that I didn't really want a Han Solo origin story. That said I did go see it in the movie theater in 3D.

Going over budget by 100% was also a big part of it's financial difficulties.

Solo built several interesting locations that could provide environments for side-series, though I don't think we'll see them in the near future. You could see there being some small or even big-television series based on the:
1. Corellian underworld
2. Imperial war on Mimban
3. Crimson Dawn/Cloud Riders/Enfys Nest/Qi'ra

The nice thing about these stories is that since they are removed from the main story arc and characters, you can treat them separately and not risk damaging the main franchise, much like the Netflix MCU series that can succeed or bomb independently.

One last observation of mine on the MCU front is that they are successful to me not because of the superhero action aspect, but because of their successful employment of human redemptive arcs. I'm also fascinated by the superhero comedy subgenre that they've successfully executed with the GotG movies and Thor:Ragnarok. I also love Deadpool but I'm a bit worried that Disney might force Fox to tone it down.

But I'm not convinced of the influence of the MCO on the parks and not just because of the deal with Universal. Mostly I don't see the opportunity to create that many immersive worlds/attractions out of them because their stories have been more about personal story-arcs rather than immersive world-building. I mean, they've successfully built the MCU, but other than maybe Wakanda, I'm not sure I'm that interested in visiting any of locations - even Asgard. I mean maybe some of the Dr. Strange locales.

I've only watched like maybe 5 or 6 of the 700,000 Marvel movies so I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I kinda doubt this. They've had other labels under their umbrella for a long time (like Miramax) and never really forced them to tone down R-rated films. We shall see.

what’s the shelf life on Chris Pratt?

Not as long as Harrison Ford.

- Star Wars is a dying property. Yep, you have your fans. Wizard of Oz has it's fans.

🤭🤣🤣🤣

It’s florida...that’s part of the deal unfortunately

Sometimes, you don’t have to comment.

Maybe...because common sense is lost.

If your instincts tell you to go further out onto a peninsula during a tropical storm...your gps is completely busted.

That’s like being on a ship with a tiny leak and saying “oh look...there’s Haiti...we’ll be safe there!”

Or...what’s safer than WDW? That’s what a lot of us down here think.

Plus, when it’s over, you’re at WDW.

The current comic film moment will fade

God, please. They’re about as exciting as golf.

Sometimes...when it ends up such a jumble of nothingness...

Everytime I see the lack of rides at HS currently it makes me sad. There's 7 rides? Divided by ~50k people? It's a wonder they aren't all over 100 mins (except for Muppets)

ETA: And how does the 10 year old ride out draw the 5 month old ride?

School's in session and so a thrill ride outperforms a family ride.

Better to compare the two during a vacation week or month.

There’s also that that alien Ride is awful...

I thought it was a decent little diversion at DCA...but that was with the mater schtick...

The WDW variant is just not ok. Awful decisions based on the crowd problems.

Midway Mania is AT LEAST fun

That's definitely the right answer!

Still disappointing that that is what we got in the new land.
