News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

Three different piers in only sixteen years, what a statement it makes. There's a surreal quality to Pixar Pier that's slowly growing on me, though I was underwhelmed at first. Still, I try not to think of the money they're spending that, in the end, will change so little. By the time the paint begins to fade, so will the crowds that want to see the "new" pier. I am disappointed about the Inside/Out Spinner, since it will block what was considered a possible entrance to future ride, one that might even have had staying power.

Completely disagree for all the reasons mentioned by others here. The mid-century modern building for the coaster, while attractive by itself, is especially ill-suited for the theme. And why is Mickey still on the ferris wheel? None of it makes any sense.

I honestly don't think there's going to be all that much to the "mid-century" design of the queue building. If you compare what's proposed with what's currently there, it's literally the addition of a raised overhang in the front where the coasters exit the building. I think they're stretching pretty far with that description to be honest. :)

Made a little before and after using the same angle on Google Maps. Honestly, the biggest changes here are the swapping of some blue to red (and some red to blue!) and changing out the Paradise Pier logo with Pixar Pier. I think a lot of people are getting hung up on the vibrant primary color artistic style of the drawing as it's done in the style of a lot of the Toy Story Land concept art. The surroundings are all still going to look the same and won't magically turn into kids refrigerator art. :) I think from the ground level, it's going to be pretty hard to tell the difference unless you were a really big fan of the old midway games.

And because I have too much time on my hands this evening, here's a before and after using satellite imagery from the FUTURE!

Thank you. I think the "former" Midway area will be the most changed out of this. But overall I think you're right. Its just a renaming and refresh of the area with a new attraction thrown in for good measure. And its not like DCA couldn't use another family type attraction, especially if Bugs is really going away.

I think it'll be a positive for the park, and I believe most will come to like it or at least accept it in the end.

You know, one thing this mid-century loading station has going for it is what DOESN'T show up in the concept art, but is sometimes visible peeking up in the background. I don't have a good ground level photo, but here's a shot from Google Earth:

You've got to be kidding me. Why? What's the point? Even from a financial standpoint, are people really going to buy Incredibles toys because they rode the Incredicoaster. It's just so... pointless. Paradise Pier works well as is. In fact, the cohesiveness of it is the best part of the land! These "neighborhoods" are a ridiculous concept. Just slap on the IPs, don't insult me by saying it's a "neighborhood." Maybe there will be a dark ride portion at the end of Incredicoaster, but that also feels so... anticlimactic. Where else could they put it though? I imagine the tunnels will have some effect, which could be cool. Actually, I have little doubt that Incredicoaster will be superior to CA Screamin' but at what cost? The entire cohesive THEME of a theme park? This is the first decision by Disney that I firmly hate, the first that I just find no benefit to. It's not a big change, but it's just a change that will ruin a park's theming cohesion for no good reason. At least with IPcot or Hollywood Studios, they're pouring money into it, and they will make it look very good. The changes look to actually improve the current park (sorry but Epcot is no EPCOT Center, time to change). I don't mind IPs as long as the ride or land works; that's why I don't mind Guardians of the Galaxy quite as much. I mean an IP land saved CA Adv. I just hope that all the original concepts at Disney that aren't iconic (Pirates, Haunted Mansion) don't get scrapped for $$$. At least I still have Tokyo.

I'm still incredibly p'd off about this, and I don't even get to visit Disneyland that often. Real shame that the last time I'll have experienced California Screamin' unaltered was last year...

It only makes sense in that Mickey is corporate symbol of all things Disney, and that includes Pixar. If it were Donald's Fun Wheel, it really wouldn't work.

The point I'm making is what Disney rolled out yesterday makes no sense thematically in whole or in the individual parts. Mickey's face remaining on the ferris wheel while Pixar characters are added to the cabs is just weird and emblematic of how awkwardly this overlay fits into a land meant to emulate a California seaside pier.

In the end maybe it'll all be fine, but

Agreed.
