News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

Oh god, if you think people on here are bad go to Micechat... I can't stand it there.

I think it's great Disney changes things up, I've said this before (and was criticized for saying it about GOTG:MB and now look at it) that the Imagineers are smart and know what they're doing. Do not know why people don't like change and want to stick with the old things. I think Pixar Pier will be great, and everyone complaining will be surprised just like they were with GOTG:MB.

... not everyone.

I don't think anyone dislikes change. I'll take Buena Vista Street over Sunshine Plaza any day. I think what so many people have a problem with is a lack of purpose for the change and the replacement not seeming hopeful. And in the case of Mission Breakout, being opposed to that change was justified as the new attraction is trash.

Pal, you're sitting there attacking us for not shilling for a company because we dislike something being done cheap and we're the ones with sad lives?

And let's be clear, bud, we are all individuals with different ideas and opinions. I, for one, have never complained about a California themed park in California. In fact, I think it makes a lot of sense. Where else would you put a theme park celebrating California's history? New York? Why? That makes no sense. I love what Disney did in 2010, 2012, and 2015 to help strengthen that theme of California's history and culture. What I don't love, and hate actually, is destroying these changes, as seen here with Pixar Pier or Mission Breakout, and going backwards with the improvements they made all for a lousy and cheap dollar.

But of course, why should we be critical of Disney theme parks? They're just supposed to be fun after all, right? Who needs imagination, innovation, and immersion when I can meet Baby Groot from the new hit movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on Blu Ray and DVD now or ride on the Incredicoaster, a roller coaster themed to the Incredibles (see the Incredibles 2 in theaters summer 2018) just as much as Riddler's Revenge is themed to the Riddler?

I have to ask, what exactly were you expecting this to be? From the start it was clear that the outcome would be uninspired given the subject matter and short window for completion. It's been established for at least a decade that head honchos at Disney consider Studio IP to be king at Disney Parks, so no big shock to me that this is happening. I guess I'm surprised that you're surprised by what was revealed today.

Evidently there may be a mandate that each Disney Resort install some kind of Pixar branded land that appeals to all ages. With DLR's relatively small footprint Paradise Pier is pretty much the only choice for something akin to Toy Story Land, and given the land's iconic coaster and ferris wheel profiles they couldn't risk tearing it all down to replace it with a Slinky Dog coaster and a Green Soldier Parachute Drop, so this is what we get.

I was expecting just this when Pixar Pier was announced. Do you mean what I expected from DCA 2.0, though? Well, I expected lands representing golden eras of California's past. Victorian boardwalk, 1930's and 40's Hollywood Land, bustling streets of 1920's jazz era Los Angeles, etc. Because that's what the place for DCA 2.0 was. It was to pay homage and celebrate CA's rich history and culture. Pixar Pier and Mission Breakout, however, were never part of that vision. These changes contradict those ones.

Its the usual pattern of we hate it at announcement. We get excited as it is built and love it when its done. It happens every time. Personally, I think is looks great. Flicks flyers is one of my favorite bug land rides and its good to see it saved and moved here. Good to see the coaster getting some love. Its queue is a lot less magic mountain and has more style. Hopefully the giant peeping Tom ringmaster in the store will go away.

Completely agree.

Completely disagree for all the reasons mentioned by others here. The mid-century modern building for the coaster, while attractive by itself, is especially ill-suited for the theme. And why is Mickey still on the ferris wheel? None of it makes any sense.

So I'm just going to say my piece here so that you guys can probably ignore it and continue shouting in this echo chamber you've built for yourselves.

You guys are seriously some of the most miserable, negative people I've ever seen (if your posts are to be believed). Like literally it seems all you guys do is constantly bemoan and rant about every little thing that Disney does to the parks. It's one thing if you don't care about certain rides or things Disney does, but when you then go on and on and on about these changes on an almost-daily basis (hi @TROR), it's kinda really obsessive.

Now about Pixar Pier, I'm old enough to remember when people thought Disney building a California-themed park in California was stupid. Fast forward to almost two decades later, suddenly everyone is mad because Disney is slowly chipping away at the California theme. The fact that some of you actually want Disney to go BACK to DCA 1.0 just tells me you're not satisfied with anything. I also remember when people complained that Disney California Adventure wasn't "Disney." So here they are incorporating some more Disney properties into the park and...big shock...you still have a problem with it. Again...never satisfied with anything.

But don't let me ruin your fun! Continue acting like you know what's good Imagineering and what isn't just because you go to the parks a lot, talk about them on a daily basis, read the books, and marathoned Roller Coaster Tycoon when you were a kid. I'll keep going to the parks with people who actually want to have fun and not be joyless shells not satisfied with anything.

Thank you!

Let’s keep the misery going, folks!

I personally loathe mid century architecture...especially with that Incredibles mural. Disastrous design.

I used to love it, but thanks to Ikea, Dwell Magazine, and HGTV I'm over it. That said, I'd welcome some thoughtful mid-century design at DLR in the proper themed setting. Can't wait to read the crazy backstory they come up with for all this Pixar Pier business, particularly the Incredibles coaster.
