And those Imagineer execs do love their vitally-important-and-super-necessary-for-authenticity paid "Research Trips".

Joe Rohde's trips seem to pay off and you can definitely see his travel influence in most of what he's involved with. DAK has greatly benefited from this. He has a great IG account that is worth following and is very insightful. Can't really speak for the rest of 'em though.

Walt Disney Imagineering revealed many of the designing choices for Pixar Pier in the Pixar Party Blog Meet-Up this past evening:

• WDI choose Pixar Pier for three reasons: 1) Pixar is in California 2) Emeryville is near Piers 3) Pixar has the color and energy common to boardwalks in California

• "Pixar is a "California company"; "Located near the famous piers we researched." Pixar Pier is a "collection of moments" and a "neighborhood strategy"

• “Pixar Pier has been here all this time but has evolved over the years”

• Santa Cruz Boardwalk is the color inspiration for Pixar Pier. It's "California kitsch". Wanted to bring some "water elements", hense the rotating Pixar marble water ball

• Imagineering was inspired by Tokyo DisneySea for Pixar Pier. Specifically Toyville Trolley Park. California Adventure's "domes are bigger"

• Pixar Pier is set in modern day, since it's changed with inspirations from most films which take place in current, contemporary times.

• Incredibles Park "We had to put a simple story on there"

• Boardwalk went from pastels (Paradise Pier) to jewel based tones (Pixar Pier - Toy Story Boardwalk Neighborhood)

• Dante’s Churros was one of the themes considered for Señor Buzz Churros, but it wasn’t able to be located in a neighborhood that matched. Apparently it was impossible to move (mostly due to health laws and sinks)

• Pixar Promenade took inspiration from (again) DisneySea; some classic bandshells from old California boardwalks. Over 30 feet of new building (compared to Sideshow Shirts)

• Lamplight Lounge drew inspiration from Nomad Lounge through a similar backstory - instead of sharing stories of adventures to Africa and Asia, it’s a place where Pixar employees would hang out

• The Pal-A-Round marquee is four times as large as the Fun Wheel marquee

• Dylan's candy shop in New York is inspiration for Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff

They insult my intelligence with this buffoonery and nonsense. It’s gotten out of hand.

Trash.

I'd have more respect for everyone involved if they said "look, we were given a small budget and limited time and were told to Pixar up Paradise Pier. We did the best we could under the circumstances." This post hoc explanation for the choices made is just embarrassing.

"Impossible to move"

...

I can't even comprehend how WDI was told to overhaul a land but weren't given the resources to move a churro cart.

Well, in that case, Walt would have found moving the churro cart kind of fun. Y'know, 'cause he liked doing THE IMPOSSIBLE.

And then the 2018 Imagineers could stand watching with mouths agape: "How did you DO that???" And then Walt could just slap them all like Moe dealing with Larry and Curly.

Gotta mention this: In the many times I rode Screamin', I was always looking at the track ahead and never noticed the ugly rooftop. Imagineering has managed to draw everyone's attention away from the fun, smooth railing ahead to the ugly rooftop, ladder and horrifying babies-on-sticks. So mind-blowingly inept. It's like a magician drawing the audience's attention to the trap door in the cabinet.

I know right! When I went on I was distracted by all the stuff around the Jack Jacks instead of the Jack Jacks!

The multiplying Jack Jack sequence should have really be done inside one of the tubes using projections like the opening department store window display. How WDI or anyone thought a few figures on very obvious sticks would be acceptable is baffling.

It’s like they didn’t have the proper budget or the amount of time to get this done and said “ Eff it. Just put them on sticks.”

i also have issues with those jack jacks on a stick.
They should have added an addition to the roofline and created a simple effect and used projection in the evenings along with it. basically added a new show scene

Maybe they will do a big refurbishment in a couple of years like they do with all of their rides.

What's awesome is that the blog meet up had a bunch of the same bloggers and websites that were just there for media previews...the same folks that live at the parks and feel the need to take up a spot from the "regular folks" out there.

They were referring to Toyville Trolley Park at Tokyo DisneySea.

I recognized the domes at the entrance to the pier and the copulas at the promenade immediately from Tokyo. Just different colors or sizes. The facade for Bing Bongs looks familiar too. Not an exact duplicate though.
