by Michael Ramirez, Editorial Content Director, Disneyland Resort

Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure park will soon welcome its first guests into the reimagined land. Set along the shores of Paradise Bay, Pixar Pier will bring the wonderful worlds of Pixar to life! During the evening of Monday, July 2, some of our Disney Parks Blog readers will be able to attend a special, after-hours party in Pixar Pier!

This meet-up will kick off with reserved viewing for the dazzling “Paint the Night” parade in Disney California Adventure park, followed by a panel discussion with creative forces from Walt Disney Imagineering. Then after the park closes for the evening, meet-up guests will get to explore Pixar Pier—including riding the thrilling Incredicoaster and Pixar Pal-A-Round attractions, discovering the Pixar-inspired neighborhoods, tasting yummy bites and more!

Space for this experience is limited, and you must sign up here. Confirmation emails will be sent after registration has reached capacity and closed. Please remember the following:
  • All participants who sign up for this experience must be 18 years or older, but guests of the participants may be younger than 18
  • Only one registration per person is allowed
  • Limit one guest per registrant
  • Confirmations are non-transferrable and have no cash value
  • Confirmation will be for the accepted registered person plus one guest
  • Valid photo I.D. will be required at check-in
  • Space is limited to 150 registrants. Registrations will be accepted in the order received based on eligibility and capacity
  • Disney California Adventure park admission will be provided beginning at 8:30 p.m., but participants will be responsible for any parking fees

FWIW Slash Film is speculating that the $300 Pixar Pier preview ticket is a test for dynamic admission pricing in the future. The story is based on reporting on a WSJ article that is behind a firewall.

How will this impact guests in the future? Well, these tests almost certainly signal the end of an era for the Disney theme parks. Annual passholder previews might become a thing of the past, because why would Disney continue to give anything away when it’s clear people are willing to pay serious money for a premium experience? Though Disney executives are reportedly “wary of appearing to gouge customers” and “going against founder Walt Disney’s vision of affordable family entertainment”, we all know that the company’s bottom line is the most important factor in any of these decisions. Plus, Disney’s rivals at Universal Studios have been using dynamic pricing since the beginning of 2018, fluctuating prices based on projected crowd levels.

Great theory... except Disney already introduced dynamic pricing back in 2016 shortly after Universal did.

The high price for a specific time block with exclusive access to an isolated area of the park is a first though.

Am I broken? Aesthetically I am completely happy with everything they've done to the pier (aside from the lunchbox food stand)...

No you're not alone. I think it looks great overall and much better than Paradise Pier did. I think its a great makeover, but its still the same stuff thats always been there. I think if Disney didn't try to make it sound like a bigger deal than what it is people wouldn't be as hostile about it. But yes I have to admit everything I seen so far seems to be an improvement. Its still nothing I have to run down to see anytime soon though.

Seriously, this warehouse style is so overdone. Sick of it. Is it an improvement over what was there before? On a quality level, sure. Is it what should've been done, though? I definitely would say no. All the money going into this project (and Mission Breakout and Pixar Fest as well) could've been used so much better, in ways that would truly improve the parks.

But TROR, you’re forgetting about the magic of selfies and Instagram pics in front of a brick wall.
