News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

They should have called it "Mickey's Pixar Wheel" because everyone's still going to call it the Mickey Mouse ferris wheel.

Also I heard from a castmember friend that when people said the budget for Pixar Fest was the same as the 60th of Disneyland, it's actually the budget for PIXAR PIER was the same as the 60th of Disneyland...

Which I still can't see... the 60th had to pay for that amazing fireworks show to perform nightly, build/run Paint the Night, give updates to multiple rides, banners, and more. Pixar Pier has The Incredicoaster with its repainted California Screamin ride vehicles, a giant Jessie that got a 3 for 1 deal, lots of new paint, a spinner from a soon to be defunct land, and like 30 statues for the Incredicoaster. I feel like the 60th Budget was more, LOL.

Well, this AP holder will be here during the opening of Pixar Pier.

They were designed for that ride and while the industry trends toward ditching shoulder restraints, intamin hasn't; they've actually put shoulder harnesses on ride types that typically don't use them.
Restraint systems are not necessarily dictated by the manufacturer. The reason you’ll see different restraints on similar coasters is often due to the operator requesting the different restraint. Disney chooses to continue to use over-the-shoulder restraints, case in point being Space Mountain in Paris where the vest is entirely optional for the trains now in use.

Another issue is that this project wasn't ready yet. When they announced it it was clear they had nothing planned and the past few 6 months have proven that. Plans changing every single day, nothing announced for attractions, things being announced less than a month before opening. My local mall replaced the entire carousel and gave it a new bandstand style building in 4 months. Jessie's Critter Carousel is taking a year? It defiantly needed more time in the planning stages.

I seriously think there's a juicy Lassetter story here. Like the whole project might have been prompted by the fact that John didn't like Marvel was going to take out Bugs Land. Then WDI pitches this Pixar Pier idea to please him (and Mr. IP Chapek), and it gets quickly approved and fast-tracked without any details really worked out (or ramifications thought out). Then the bombshell drops and John is in the doghouse. No star-imagineer swings in to save the project since they think it's stupid, leaving the B-team to cobble it together the best they can.

B-team? More like a group of lucky interns who were told, "as long as it contains a Pixar character, its a go!"

I think this is a reasonable assumption. I also think it's possible that Chapek's team is cracking the whip so to speak on WDI by forcing the organization to create relatively low cost immersive solutions that can be delivered quickly. We all know that WDI has a long history of spending literally decades designing and producing mediocre yet very expensive projects. What we've seen recently with Mission Breakout and Pixar Pier is a different approach that doesn't have much to offer intellectually, but delivers on experience for Disney's core audience.

If only someone could explain this diagram to Chapek...

Maybe instead of explaining the diagram to Chepek that somebody should explain it to Disneyland's insatiable fan base.
But we're not the one's making the parks ;)

Personally, as a creative myself, I know the tenants of that diagram back and forth. The fist-shaking at Disney comes from knowing that they're still somehow trying to get away with doing all three...and failing.

I'm going to book a trip to Disneyland right now for this summer. I will live at Pixar Pier. And I will get candy from Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff, eat it while watching the Pixar Pal-Around. Then ride The Incredicoaster, and barf the candy from the top of the loop on all the people waiting in line for Jessie's Critter Carousel with their Señor Buzz Churos.

Or I can go to England for the same price.

I choose England.

But without a doubt 'you' are making the parks by the choices 'you' make by visiting regularly. If 'you' detest what they are producing then do what I do: vote with your feet and stay away until they create something new that 'you' find worth your attention and admiration.

Same. The last time I made a Disney trip was for Disneyland's 60th, and that was primarily to see Paint the Night. This summer I'm traveling to England, The Czech Republic, and Spain, and I have no intentions of visiting a Disney resort until SW:GE opens.

I'm visiting England, France, Spain, Germany, and Italy this summer. Besides my trip in 2 days and a mini-trip to Disneyland Paris this summer, I have no intentions of visiting a Disney Resort until the 50th anniversary of WDW. Disneyland is turning into IP crab and Disney World is half under construction. It's just not enjoyable. I might consider a minor WDW trip in 2019 for Star Wars, but other than that, I think if I have 10k to spend on a vacation, I'm going to go spend a month traveling the world or go on a cruise rather than a week at Disney.

The only problem is, so long as Iger is at the helm and the IP bandwagon is in full force, I fear that day might never come :(
I feel like we've had this conversation in the past, but there's still enough left at Disneyland that excites and keeps me coming back. The park I've made for myself is very small indeed :)
