I really don't think that's the same at all. That's cheap looking Mickey Mouse Clubhouse style CG animation on screens (I'm assuming this is geared towards young children, but still it deserves better) -- not physical three-dimensional AAs which exist in the real world.
Yeah I know I was just saying the faces of the dwarfs reminds me of this style of animation more than the actual film's animation, that's all.

You mean like how they opened up another Magic Kingdom in FL in 1971, Tokyo in 1983, etc etc etc. Each consisting almost entirely of cloned attractions/theming? Hate to tell you this, but this is not a new trend.

Even attractions like Indy get re-purposed (i.e. Countdown to Extinction/Dinosaur in Florida) If you want to get R&D and construction budgets approved, the best (often only) way to do that is to find efficiencies wherever possible -- and finding ways to re-use parts of the project elsewhere contribute a lot to that. That's not greed, it's Business 101.

As for the upcharge thing, most of that is junk... no one is forcing you to buy into any of it and your experience in the park is not going to suffer as a result of passing it up unless you have some serious FOMO issues!

I think Indy vs Dinosaur is a great example of how it's done right- until recently, I didn't know that both rides had the same track/layout but were themed different with different effects. I'd be ok if this happened more.

Until they force me out of the park at 6pm unless I buy a second ticket for that day.
Exactly. When the upcharge events increasingly eat into the normal park hours, that's when the majority of park guests are getting hosed. I would call that "My experience in the park is being negatively impacted." They should have a big animatronic Goofy at the exit shrugging his shoulders and saying, "Sorrrryyyyyyyy."

Well I certainly would hope you're not choosing to spend your money on a ticket on days where they advertise early closing, that'd be silly! I would suggest looking at the days where the park is open until midnight, that's a far better use of your $$$.

Especially since most people will ride one or the other in their lifetime, but not both. If bringing a rethemed version of "Mystic Manor" to DCA meant using the same layout and building structure to save money, I'd be all for it.

Fewer extended hour days means bigger crowds on those days and a steadily worsening experience year by year. We're still getting hosed.

Lol, you're not getting hosed. The Halloween party is hardly a new event and it's what, two days out of the week and probably moving back to DCA anyways? Also consider that DL no longer seems to be using off-season hours when operations would shut down by like 8pm around this time of year (edit - I guess they did back in Feb). You win some here, you lose some there.

TDL was built the way it was because that's what OLC, the paying client, wanted. They didn't want some daring refresh of the MK concept, they wanted exact copies of what was already working in America, and that's what Disney gave them. By the time OLC was ready for a second park, they got a revolutionary one-of-a-kind park with DisneySea.

It would have been nice if Disney had insisted on a unique castle for TDL, but at the time I'm not sure anyone at Disney could have envisioned two Chinese resorts and a French one as well, and the company's resources were entirely tied up in Epcot. Once HKDL's castle redo is done, TDL's will be the only castle clone.

True, but I think the topic was brought up about repurposing ideas and art.

OLC got a top notch park with TDS but much of it was not unique idea. WDI basically dusted off the concept for Long Beach Disney Sea and modifies it to fit OLC needs and land space.

The Long Beach disney art had a volcano, and an American waterfront but obviously with a real ship which at the time was the queen Mary.

It’s Actually amazing how much of Long Beach Disney sea and Disney’s America park and Discovery cove was eventually built in Tokyo, Anaheim and Paris

The most notable pieces that eventually showed up were
The volcano and waterfront in TDS
The boardwalk area with coaster and funwheel, Condor flats, bountiful valley in DCA

And Discovery cove elements in Paris.

OLC has been going back and forth trying to update many of its aging areas of the Disneyland Park there. You brought up a good point about the Castle being the last clone after Hong Kong gets a change. I wonder if they would ever consider modifying their castle as well. They definitely have much more room around it to modify it

I feel cheated when I go to the movies and pay $12.00 for a movie that last 1 1/2 hours when the week before I paid the same for one that lasted 2 hours

But then I feel rewarded when I pay the same and see one that last 3 hours.

Lol. ;-)

I certainly hope you don't think when I'm planning my trips, that are typically planned a year in advance, that I have any way of predicting if these nights will happen to fall during my 5 locked in days or not.

It's literally a month and a half out of the year from 9/15 thru Halloween. Not trying to be an a$$... I do understand your complaint, but it's not like they surprise us with this information every year. You don't need a fortune teller to predict that if you're staying a week during that time period that there are potentially two days where you'll need to plan on going into the other park if you want to be there for the evening.

Disney World has gotten a lot better about this, as they have told us about the Halloween Party and Christmas Party over 6 months in advance. But Disneyland didn't announce their Star Wars Nite until a month and a half prior, and if they told me 6 months prior, I would have defiantly planned my trip around this. I was so upset when my flight out was 2 hours prior to the party star time. But I'll get over it, lol.

Sounds like you are more bummed you can't attend the party and less about the early closing (which is only an hour or so earlier than usual @ 9pm, not too bad.) I wouldn't worry about missing out on too much if that's the case -- these special events are usually just a bunch photo ops, special food items, and some extra entertainment.

It was something that I would have liked to do, but it wasn't something that ruined my trip.

World of Color and Pirates closed for refurb did however, lol.

Can we discuss how cheap this looks?
