News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

I do very much think that it's still a California themed park, it's just not themed well, at all.

But, I've been wrong before. If it isn't a California park, what is the park's overarching theme?
It is a California themed park, just lightly themed with added detail from the various Disney IP characters and places. The badly themed areas weren’t improved from DCA 2.0 so likely to be replaced like Hollywood Backlot.

From the food festival, it should be obvious that Disney didn’t abandon the California theme. There’s just no point to continue to build California themed attractions and lands. Where they remain, they are safe, but they won’t continue it beyond Buena Vista St, Grizzly Peak, the food court and restaurants, Hollywood Boulevard, and the Pier. The Pier still looks Californian.

Same here. Too bad the only way they can justify doing it rests on promoting IP.

I just look at the IP as just the catalyst, but its the overall execution that matters. And from pictures that have been seen so far things look to be ok. And in the end we get an AA at the entrance, which correct me if I'm wrong is the first for DLR if not all Disney parks.

Interesting. Thanks!

She knows of World of Color and the Mickey's Fun Wheel mostly because she's seen it on TV. But she thought they were in Toontown!

Believe it or not, but their was a Pixar Fest add in our local mall. Disney is advertising Disney World a lot here in NJ, but we have started seeing Disneyland advertisements with Pixar Fest.

Also, the outside of the Times Square Disney store is advertising Pixar Fest like their is no tomorrow.

Yup. Really shows the huge difference between Staggs' leadership and Chapek's.

Not sure what you mean. Is that good or bad?

BTW, the fanciful roof design is not original to DLR.

At this point, and I kind of hate to say it, DCA is a park about Pop Culture--meaning a big mishmash of Disney-owned IPs. I think that's its future. Disney's #IP Pop Park. I think Pixar Pier has steamrolled over any hope for any more serious placemaking. I think the Marvel additions won't even try to feel like a believable locale. I think Disney's current management will find a way to ruin Grizzly River Run with a stupid IP overlay. Buena Vista Street, too. And I think late night maintenance workers will swear they've seen the Dreamers Walt statue crying. And through it all, brainwashed fans will keep buying merchandise and saying, "Trust Disney! They know what they're doing!"

I'm in such a funk now.

Oh for God's sake. Even the light theming is bottom-of-the-barrel. Earlier today I was seeing added details like this and Toy Story Mania's new color scheme and was thinking, "You know, the parts of this project that aren't worthless advertising stunts look like charming improvements," but now I see that Pixar Pier probably won't have a SINGLE unique/interesting modification to the area. Instead of having the budget to design a roofline, they had to pick from existing elements in the archives?
