News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

omg are we still talking about the pixar theory??? It's a fan theory, that's all. Pixar execs and directors have repeatedly denied it. This is a case closed situation, seriously.

Even if the Pixar theory was real, which it isn't, it wouldn't make Pixar Pier anymore logical. Pixar Pier is the embodiment of Six Flags theming philosophy. Props and cut-outs on off the shelf attractions and coasters. Decoration instead of actual theming. No sense of place, no storytelling, no rhyme or reason. Just a whole land of "wouldn't it be cute if" as hypothesized by people who know nothing about themed design or entertainment.

I wonder if anyone in the history of the world will ever be walking through Pixar Pier and say, "Huh. I think I get it. All of these characters are here in one place because the Pizza Planet truck is in all of the Pixar movies."

To really drive home this theming, they ought to have a rubber head John Ratzenberger walking around.

John Ratzenberger is in Star Wars so I'm not saying the Abominable Snowman is showing up in Galaxy's Edge but

That's what we do, talk about nonsense stuff endlessly. But you all do realize I've been yanking your chain on this?!?! I don't really believe they are all in one universe. Gotta keep it fun around here its been too serious lately, geez....

Mhm, sure.

I really don't, I was trying to prove a point while keeping it fun.

Point I was making was that there will be those that will find the land works because of these type of theories. There will be those that think they are bats**t crazy, but that won't matter to them. It works for them because they believe and they will flock to the area because it brings this idea of one universe they've had to life.

I've already expressed how I feel about the project. With the exception of the Incredicoaster, the rest doesn't really interest me. To be fair the area formerly known as Paradise Pier never really interested me either.

Would the average non-fan person even be able to distinguish the Pixar films from the non-Pixar films off the top of their head? My gut says no. Why Disney is so insistent on conciously dividing the overall brand is beyond me.

The only thing the Pixar...umm..."theme" does for them is it gives them a place to stick IPs that are set in contemporary times and/or have poorly defined "worlds" and thus are too difficult to rationally include in their existing lands.

Interesting that ever since Potter, the push has been toward creating immersive, movie specific places. Pixar Pier is a complete rejection of that and the more traditional generally themed land approach.

People think Zootopia and Shrek are Pixar films.

In all fairness, Chapek hasn't shown any interest whatsoever in creating an immersive specific land. Galaxy's Edge, DCA 2.0, and Avatar were all under Staggs. Chapek has only pushed for character slap on attractions.

This. I had a friend who SWORE Big Hero 6 was Pixar when that movie was in theaters. It seems arrogant for them to think the average parkgoer knows or even cares about the distinction enough to visit a place dedicated to Pixar characters.

I mean, I get it's a unique part of their history and the brand has some power but to treat it like Marvel or Star Wars just makes no sense.

This is one area where WDW has gotten it right. TSL has it's own set of problems but at least it's moving away from the general Pixar theme. IP use aside, Nemo coexists in Epcot. Merida holds meet and greets between Cinderella's castle and Alice's teacups. I doubt anyone is confused by Buzz showing up in TL. Monsters Inc. is the only one that feels out of place but that's not because it's a Pixar film.
