News Paradise Pier Becoming Pixar Pier

People think Zootopia and Shrek are Pixar films.

In all fairness, Chapek hasn't shown any interest whatsoever in creating an immersive specific land. Galaxy's Edge, DCA 2.0, and Avatar were all under Staggs. Chapek has only pushed for character slap on attractions.

Both good points here. I've had my reservations about lands which are too specific to one IP, particularly Pandora, but I would rather see that than what is happening in DCA. It's almost comical, really....Most People: Radiator Springs looks fantastic and makes total sense....Chapek: Let's never do that again.

Right, agreed. But to me the fact the general public didn’t want it makes it even more puzzling. Not only is it a bad idea, but it’s a bad idea with no demand.
I can accept that the general public is not like us and will be happy to see more IPs in the park. But appeasing that desire and still adhering to the principals of good design and story telling could've been achieved. They aren't mutually exclusive concepts.

If I want to see characters slapped on traditional rides and booths, and don't care if they are Disney or not, I can save a lot of time and money and just head to one of the several amusement parks that are much closer to where I live.

That’s a similar bad argument. Good creative work doesn’t come from following what the public says they want.

Disney Research, the masters that they are, probably does have the surveys of people asking for Pixar Pier to a legally acceptable degree. There is most definitely a large number of Disney park fans who don’t really like themed entertainment but do want more character and brand experiences.

I always love this quote from Steve Jobs.

“Some people say, ‘Give customers what they want.’ But that’s not my approach. Our job is to figure out what they’re going to want before they do. I think Henry Ford once said, ‘If I’d asked customers what they wanted, they would have told me, “A faster horse!”‘ People don’t know what they want until you show it to them. That’s why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page.”

I’m in agreement with you. I’m just not getting my point across. Well said!

This is a little off topic, but it relates to this thread.

My favorite think every is at the D23 Expo when announcing Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, this was said.

"When are Imagineers creating the next original story? Like an attraction with Pirates of the Caribbean or It's a Small World or The Haunted Mansion?... Well I'm happy to tell you, we are doing it right now!" - Kevin Rafferty

What we said when we want Imagineers to create the next original story, we didn't mean one based on an IP. We meant we wanted original stories, original characters, original settings, etc. Not a Mickey and Minnie ride or an Incredibles Ride where you ride a rollercoaster to capture Jack-Jack.

True but at this point, after all this Star Wars and Marvel, doesn’t the Mickey ride almost feel like an original? It will have an original song and it looks like a completely new type of ride experience.

Appreciate it bruh!

We're all anxiously awaiting an acceptance speech from the guest of honor. Or at least some kind of an acknowledgement from the gentleman. Or maybe he's too HOB for the HOB?
