RSR falls short for me as well and i don’t think it has to do with IP in my case. The mountain range is stunning, especially at night and It’s obviously a super E ticket but I feel as if the sum is less than all its parts. It’s like dark ride- check. “Thrills” - check. Stunning scenery- check. But the dark ride falls short for me. Not entirely sure why. The AAs are great and the scope/ scale is huge. Maybe it’s because I feel like I’m in a warehouse because all of those lights on the ceiling. Then you get to the thrill portion and it just never quite goes fast enough to feel thrilling for me except for a brief second or two. It’s definitely a unique ride but in the end it’s just not very fun and it feels like something is missing.

To me it’s a good but not great dark ride + moderate thrills + amazing scenery. I think as I write this I figured out what I think is missing - Cohesion. Between everything they tried to cram into this ride they give you too much time to think and it takes you out of the experience and works against immersing you into the Cars world.
Now, part of this is because I'm a Cars fan, but I really do find the ride's plot super-cohesive. You're on a drive, you stumble into Radiator Springs and everyone assumes you've come for the big race. Without a chance to argue otherwise, you're suddenly outfitted and ushered to the starting line. Doc gives you pointers during the race, and afterward everyone's impressed with your skills, but mainly just happy you took part in their special day. You then exit to have more fun in Radiator Springs with your new friends.

Totally agree with you about the warehouse feeling, though.

I agree with you on the thrill aspect. It doesn't go nearly fast enough or have make it feel you are going fast enough.

The problem I had with the dark ride portion is that you see a full size spectacular Radiator Springs outside then see a cheaper version of it inside. Once they decided to re-create Radiator Springs, they should have gone a different direction in the ride.

The view of the ceiling threw me off too. You may have to get used to it though. One thing I have noticed in a lot of Disney's newer rides especially in Hong Kong and Shanghai is the lack of them trying to hide ceilings or lighting. Even Shanghai's Pirates made very little attempt to obscure the ceiling and lights are exposed out in the open. Very unlike Disneyland's Pirates where they go to considerable effort to hide those things.

Don’t get me wrong you re definitely in the world of cars. I don’t find it to be a linear story or tight plot which I don’t mind and actually prefer. The cohesion I think is lost in between sections of the attraction. Unlike for example Indy, HM, POTC, or Splash Mountain where you feel like you are on a journey and have been fully immersed in those worlds.

I beg to differ. Most of the design has not changed (since 2001 as a Hollywood Backlot) to match the Golden Age of Hollywood. The Animation Building is still a 1990s design, and the buildings are still just facades.

Hence why I first said it has thematic issues.

As @TROR points out placemaking for HWL was on the drawing boards as part of the DCA redo with one proposal showing a new facade for the Hyperion.

The thread also had this image as well. Does anyone know if this is official? It looks like what would go in the Screamin' loop.View attachment 257685

I’m not sure but I don’t think so. I kind of like this mock up better than the one on the original concept art below. With that said, the beige background would probably get washed out with the white coaster in the background.

I doubt that's official now. It still has the you-know-what image on the top, the thing that Hans claims he can't see. I doubt we'll ever see that again in any official capacity.

And I would have paid big money to be in the conference room or on the panicky email chain when the execs had to make that decision last week! Hysterically funny that some saucy WDI intern brought them down to that level!

don't think the double-p's are nearly as egregious as the other one, and a biiit of a stretch themselves -
good heavens on that other one, tho... right-side up or not (badum-tish)

That's not how it works for everyone.

Certainly true...
but, recent precedent shows that masses will still flock,
with naysayers either being drowned out or having reversed course.

Here's a thought, and please excuse me if this has been brought up before on the boards:

It's been driving me nuts that Disney abandoned a great new direction for the Pier (Classic Mickey & co.) for a really odd and ill-fitting theme (Pixar). Could this seemingly bizarre change of direction be caused by another project-- Maybe the Mickey's Runaway Railway attraction is part of a huge stylistic overhaul of Toontown that would make a Mickey & Co. Pier redundant? Someone please tell me there's actually a great, creative reason this is all happening!

Maybe classic Mickey and Co characters will end up in whats left of Hollywood (Mickey's Hollywood Land anyone) if that Mickey dark ride comes to DCA.

Hi!! I've been lurking around on this forum for a while but never posted. This is the official logo they are using at the moment. It was added to the Pixar Pier construction walls days after the other PP logo controversy happened. I personally like this logo than compared to the PP w/ball logo.

Welcome!

And I agree. This logo is way better that the Double P/ball logo.

I really wish they used this logo or a modification of this logo but I remember like a month ago seeing concept art for Pixar Pier (specifically the of the Carousel) and in the background the loop was just the "Incredibles logo on a black background". Hopefully they don't go that route because it was boring just looking at it.
