Does it look to anyone else like the Screamin tube is covered by a red tarp?

Yeah, I like to joke about this project and its baffling concept, but I agree that WDI deserves a chance to prove they can make this work. If the makeover actually brings more energy and life to the area, that'll be a genuine improvement.Haha!
I'm totally willing to give WDI a chance to explain the design choices and read first-hand impressions from visitors before passing final judgement, but boy do I have questions in the meantime.

You’ve hit the heart of the matter. The “story” shouldn’t need to be explained. It’s DOA. The story should be self-evident. That Pixar Pier is a concept someone came up with and now has to explain...girl, bye. Neighborhoods? On a Pier? BYE.
None of it makes sense because it can’t make sense. It’s a slapdash thrown together pile of garbage to quickly overlay “new” product.
There is no story that explains it all. There can’t be, because no such story can exist. This is WDI being given a directive and working within hard, dumb parameters to the best of their ability.
Sad that this Pier looking like back to DCA 1.0
Perhaps. I'm struggling to understand how that's possible though with Pixar characters existing in "neighborhoods". Maybe I'm over-thinking it, but from what I've seen in the concept art the Pixar + pier and supporting storytelling (theming) is confusing me.
It's a pier... with the types of things you'd see on a pier.
You all hate it now but when its done you'll wait hours to ride it and praise the design. Disney should never release concept art. They should put up a giant tarp until its ready to reopen. Skip the hate it phase and move directly to the love it phase.
What fun is that??? Speaking for myself, I would never wait more than 20 minutes to ride Screamin' in *any* form. And, seriously, Pixar Pier is enough to send me to Knott's this year instead of DCA.You all hate it now but when its done you'll wait hours to ride it and praise the design. Anything will be an improvement of what it is currently. It’s not so much the ride, the Screamin’ track is the same. It’ll certainly have more to see and have more details that requires repeat trips to see. The concept art lacks enough detail that seems to give these critics the vapors. This is most certainly another wait and see the final result situation. You all hate it now but when its done you'll wait hours to ride it and praise the design. Right. You're saying Disney intentionally designed it that way so it would get pulled immediately and get people on the internet talking about Pixar Pier....Oh, wait...at least the new art is schlongless.
guess we should be dissapointed... because, apparently, that's what we wanted to see... or something
symbolism is a thing in art, folks, been around a while -
if you don't think diz artists haven't been engaging for many years, you haven't been paying attention.
You mean like animated superheroes? Oookaaaay.....

Dude. That's a stretch. Main St. shouldn't be permanently themed around clowns simply because some Main Streets in the U.S. have had circus parades.Boardwalks/Piers all over the country have had many types of characters on display for generations.
For example, Atlantic City Boardwalk has played host previously to a Comic Con. So its not unusual to see a superhero or even other Disney characters on a boardwalk/pier.
I really thought the classic Mickey & Co. approach was a perfect direction, and I'm sorry to see it abandoned instead of expanded across the whole pier. Somehow those great 1930's and 1940's character designs just fit the boardwalk theme much more smoothly than Inside Out and the Incredibles.I know it seems like I'm defending Pixar Pier... I'm not. I'm really just trying to take this all at face value for what it is. You're at a pier at a Disney park, why would one expect it to be be all generic pier rides not related to Disney properties? Without that, it's just a regular pier with slightly better rides than you'd see in Santa Monica or Santa Cruz.
It's not an immersive area ala Pandora or Galaxy's Edge with a deep storyline, just as Fantasyland (a collection of Disney rides) isn't either. They're both more geared towards a type of place and feel.
