Paperwork filed for interior demolition at Wonders of Life

This is something that really bothers me. How much space do they need in Epcot for special engagements and corporate events. They already have corporate lounges in all of the Future World Pavilions, they have the Odyssey building next to Mexico that sits empty for most of the year since who knows when, and they shut down the whole Wonders of Life Pavilion and is opened about 2 months out of the whole year for things it wasn't even designed for. How long till Universe of Energy and the Imagination Pavilion also close to regular guests due to "low attendence"?

:brick:

Don't forget Millennium Village, the abandoned/underutilized areas of Innoventions East/West, and the lagoon areas at Italy and France that are frequently off-limits for corporate events. Add to that the idled shops in Canada and the second floor of Imagination. Plus the 'behind the berm' area that could be accessable from Germany. Lots of abandoned infrastructure that could be some type/any type of attraction.

In my opinion keeping it around for soely the FW festival and corprate events is a waste of space and anything short of reopening WOL or a new pavilion is a waste.

I know why RC closed but it doesn't change the fact that the land is being wasted!
Meh, differing of opinions I guess. I usually only get to Epcot for any substanial time during F&W so I appreciate the extra facilities.

Although the loss of a guest eat pavilion is not ideal at least it is not vacant or just being torn down outright.

Why is River Country wasted? It was becoming an irreversable health hazard.

Ah...A shame.:( Hopefully something good, besides the "Festival Center" becomes of this.

Yes... a sad day. It always hurts when the coroner signs the certificate.
I acknowledge the antiquity of the attractions, but WOL had a special place in our families Disney heart. That was the first pavillion that we visited on our maiden visit to Epcot in '90. Lord, I still tear up when I hear the music from 'Horizons'. I imagine that I'll go into a full-blown meltdown if ever I hear the loop from Cranium Command again. Pour a sip.

Im sure it will help the FW I will just miss WOL.

As far as river contry I agree the water park should have been closed. However there has got to be something better they could have done with the land instead of just rotting. Maybe a PiRates themed resort and shops, I'm mean something!

They should demolish the entire building and bring in a weather pavilion with a stormchasers attraction...
That wouldn`t need the building to be removed.

That was the first pavillion that we visited on our maiden visit to Epcot in '87.
Eek! WOL opened in 1989! I still get warm feelings listening to Horizons, infact most of classic EPCOT Center audio. You may want to check out Wonders of Life - Martins Ultimate Tribue 1&2 at Mousebits.com for some good CC and WOL audio ;)

EPCOT didn't need the extra facilities. There's plenty of space in that park.

To take a huge pavilion that had three major attractions, 2-3 minor exhibit type attractions, a snack bar and retail and shutter it except to be used as a special events area IS a WASTE for ALL guests, even if some guests aren't bothered by it.

Uhm ... here we go again.

RC wasn't a health hazard when it was open. Now, it is ... one day some kids are going to go screw around in there and wind up dead ... so yeah, now it is a hazard.

Eek is right. My wife informs me that it was in March of '90, and it was the day before her birthday. That blessed event was evidently spent at the MK, with a celebratory dinner at the Papeete Bay Verandah. Beats me, I can't remember where I parked my truck.

Wow, so it is a waste to me even though I've clearly stated the opposite? Thanks for prioritizing for me.

I'm not saying that it is the best decision. Given the options, it's not the worst one though.

That's not what I meant exactly. I can definately see that it appeared that way. I was addressing more of modifying it in its current state.

*Wonders why he and a team of people worked all night on Sunday to clean carpets, walls, tile, bathrooms and signs in WOL if the pavilion was going to be gutted*

Maybe it's the theme park equivalent of making sure you have on clean underwear in case you're in an accident....
