Palo Tipping

I'm pretty sure I read we should tip the servers at Palo when dining there. What is the suggested/customary amount for brunch & dinner? So many little things to finish up prepping before the trip....

There will probaby be a lot of opinions on this one!

We generally tip $10-15 per person for brunch and $15-20 per person for dinner.

Okee-dokee. :animwink: I'm further guessing there will be an opportunity to put this on the shipboard account? Or should I bring cash to cover it?

We generally tip on the approximate value of the meal. For two people (my wife and me) at dinner, including wine, I would expect a Palo meal to cost roughly $150-$175 retail. Twenty percent of that would be a $30-$35 tip. Obviously, for more people, I would estimate a higher value of the meal.

A tip of $15-$20 per person means that you're figuring that each person in your party is spending $100 for his/her meal. That's generous, but seems a little more than necessary to me. Seems like I might be on the low end of this conversation. Hmmmmm. :lookaroun

Chuck, your response was a great way to find the right perspective on figuring out how much. Thanks!

Joe, its so funny how odd it feels when a simple detail of a restaurant meal is changed from the norm. At the end of our first main dining meal on the Dream we felt like we weren't finished, like there was something more we should do before leaving. We're so used to settling a check as the final act it seemed inappropriate not to wait for something...some slip, bill, etc...from our waiter. Finally after lingering a bit longer than usual we asked Ali if he needed anything more from us. He said unless we had any alcohol or specialty beverages that he didn't know about then no. He said he'd be looking forward to seeing us again the next day. It really threw us off that first night. Silly but it makes sense. Lol! I wasn't sure if we will be presented a check even if we don't drink alcohol or specialty drinks. I would think at some point we'd need to sign something acknowledging our presence in Palo for the meal charge. It's one of the new-to-us things we look forward to....in TWO weeks! :sohappy:

Ok...whew....We tipped $25 for the 2 of us for dinner - I wasn't sure if that was too much/little. We don't eat at fancy-schmansy restaurants around here :)

Good! You made me feel better, Chuck! I was afraid some people were going to thing that was horribly low.

It's so hard to know what to tip! :)

In my mind Palo= Citricos and Remy=V&A so i tip according to the estimated price. Although it does feel weird to tip a server for one night almost as much as the regular server gets the whole cruise. (4 nighter)

We felt the same way about our regular meal. At dinner after dessert, we looked at each other and I said to Dan, "Are we allowed to just leave?" Felt so weird! We went to Palo and we are definitely not used to eating at fancy restaurants. We felt a little out of place lol! I think we tipped $25 for the two of us. They do bring out a bill with any drinks (we did have 1 each) and also the charge for Palo so it was easy to put the tip on that. We totally forgot to bring cash to dinner that night. I wonder if the Palo waiters get stiffed a lot for tips. Ours kept asking if we were satisfied with his service throughout the meal. I felt like he was gently reminding us.

According to Disney's gratuity guide gratuities are included in the cost for Palo.

I would have thought this was true considering there is an additional charge for eating there. I believe in tipping but generally not tipping twice. But I don't want to not tip if it is expected.

True, but Remy has an additional charge also and the gratuity is not listed as included on the website.

Disney has been vague for years on gratuity at Palo. At times the gratuity was definitely not listed as included on the website.

One thing is clear, if you talk to the servers onboard, they will tell you that $20 does not go directly to your server. It is split between so many people (servers, the people that clear the tables, the chefs, etc.) that no one person is getting more than a few dollars. The servers there are excellent and I have never felt like I didn't want to give them a little more.

I would think that whatever is tipped on top of anything that may be included will also be shared by the same people you mention.
