The floats in Florida have routine maintenance performed on them. That maintenance is performed in the parade buildings. There is no such thing as this mythical separate "float maintenance building" that you speak of. Storage and maintenance are the same. If something dramatic needed to be done they could take the float back to central shops behind MK. This idea of poor maintenance started bc of what happened to Spectro – but it was left outside in tarps. Not excusing what happened, but that's not how other parades were/are treated. Most of the floats that are used daily are safe inside the buildings. The seasonal floats are kept under a staging roof for easy access while they are in use, and properly stored when they are not.

What happened to MSEP is largely due to the fact that many of the parts for the parade are no long mass-produced, so when things broke they would have to pay lots of money to have the parts fabricated and shipped by an outside party. That can take quite a while.

Thing is DL has a maintenance building and also it's hard to do maintenance for WDW since the storage is a bit packed. That's why in the past for major maintenance they would ship the floats to somewhere else while DL just has to move there float down the street to do proper maintenance.

Just out of curiosity, what's a staging roof?

It's kind of like a giant carport for large vehicles I guess? It's apparently attached to and extends off one of the big parade buildings from what I've heard.

That is slightly understated. They are packed like they used Tokyo subway pushers to jam them in. Takes a computer program to get them in the right order so they all fit. Its just metal buildings for cryin' out loud. Build another one or add on to what they have but TDO?? Noooo can't do that.

But MSEP is gone now so problem solved - right?

You kinda mentioned this at the end but since MSEP is gone do they even have that many floats? All they have is FoF, which I believe has its own building and the seasonal floats. I'm not saying that this is good for long term because when they get a night parade for the 50th or whenever they get one they may not have room. Also I think height could be a problem for some of the buildings. Would it even be possible to expand over the canal if they go up past the Water Pageant barges?

there more seasonal floats than FOF ones.
