Paint the night is not moving to Disney World. Stop bumping this.

Oh, I know that.

And you know that.

Whether the decision makers in Orlando know that remains to be seen. It seems like a pretty easy to identify part of the equation. People didn't show up in droves to say Happy Birthday to the parks. They showed up in droves because of the wide variety of high quality offerings in the parks. But it's also not a stretch to see WDW trying to cheap out. That seems to be their MO of late.

TDO: "They're tourists... Whadda they know?"

As you noted, TDO's MO in the past 10 years has been to do as little as possible, and things that must get done should be done as cheaply as possible. Until they give us a reason to expect more, I would expect little out of TDO for the 50th at this point beyond cupcakes, merchandise, and decorations. And cheap PR stunts.

As someone who was there during the 10th, 15th, 20th, and 25th anniversary celebrations (and can still remember nearly everyone walking thru the turn styles getting a prize for the 10th (or was it the 15th?) anniversary), plus the Millennium and 100 Years of Magic celebrations, it is almost physically painful to see what TDO has turned into and what they have done with WDW. They used to actually celebrate notable anniversaries. Now, a "celebration" to TDO is cupcakes and merchandise and "how else can we make money from this?". A sad statement on a once-great organization.

I'm sure the 60th was a big money maker for DL and I definitely agree that TDO probably wants to replicate that success. With that said, I don't think it would've been such a success without new entertainment additions like Paint the Night, Disneyland Forever and World of Color: Celebrate. Along with various other improvements for the 60th, if TDO doesn't do that for MK and the three other parks for the 50th, I don't see it being as much of a success.
They sure won't be able to recapture the success that the 25th did.

I'm still not 100% that MSEP won't come back to WDW. I have no info and no reason to believe this, but it just seems too good of an opportunity for WDW to pass up. DL took it, paid for the refurb, then they "retire" it. Even if WDW had to pay to ship it back and do some small fixes after transit, it's still a win for them. They get a repaired MSEP and something that can probably last until the 50th and DL pays for it.

I do wonder if they would be happy to just chuck it in a dumpster in June.

But if that's what they plan to do, why wouldn't they have just said that?

I think they were pretty clear on this.

Because this is the third or fourth time this particular parade has "glowed away." With how cheap Disney is, I just find it hard to think they spent all this money to simply destroy the parade. Of course, I'm probably wrong.

If it were a consideration of sending MSEP back to WDW, it would make more sense for DL to just keep MSEP and send PTN to WDW, which could withstand the trip better since the floats are newer and not so fragile. Meanwhile WDW can build a new parade for its 50th. Then MSEP can retire forever, PTN goes back to DL, perhaps plussed a bit, and WDW will have a new light parade. Overall resulting in no long term outage of a light parade at WDW.
