So you guys are all excited about this nonsensical food court remake? You think this is the wonderful future of the Disneyland Resort?

Cause I think this is silly and dumb. And cheap. And also Mexico is not Japan. But apparently I'm the only one who can tell the difference.

But if this excites you as the big addition to DCA instead of the family water ride and the E Ticket coaster and the rebuild of Hyperion Theatre and the entire Hollywood Backlot into a fully fledged themed land, then go for it and have the tacos that were never in Big Hero 6.

And then, for only a $29 upcharge you can get a bottle of Coke and wait on this cement pad for your seat for Rogers The Musical...

You're immersed, right? You love it, don't you? You're lucky TDA even lets you experience such pampering, right? ;)
I'm really hoping you are hinting at something in the pipeline. Or maybe I'm just so desperate for a good new project for the Disneyland resort

Something about the changing of the Ghirardelli mural rubs me the wrong way. I can't really put my finger on why, exactly, because the changes to it are honestly so minor.

But I think it's because my wife and I enjoyed a stop at the Ghirardelli square on our first visit to San Francisco for our one year anniversary. It was especially fun after having been to DCA together so many times prior. So, as silly as it'll sound, the Ghirardelli shop (and mural) in DCA always had this air of authenticity to it.

But now I guess it just feels weird because it still looks like it wants to be an authentic celebration of the city but upon closer inspection, it too has been sucked into the world of Big Hero 6. It just feels weird to me. Oh well.

The IPification of stuff does ruin it IMO. I've never been to San Francisco but considered Ghiradelli a taste of it.

The japanese additions are minor but again instead of it being a San Francisco export in Disneyland these touches just make it seem inauthentic.

I miss when Disney parks were about lands and experiences and not recognizing what movie a character is from.

I don't really mind the added details, save for one: it's annoying that the addition of the torii elements to the bridge on the mural throw off the perspective completely (look at the suspension cables and how the gates just completely cut through them).

Kind of reminds me of losing the Mary Blair murals in Tomorrowland for spaceships and planets. The former told you that you were in a real place. The other says welcome to Sci Fi land at Disneyland.

I didn't mind losing the Blair murals. What replaced them wasn't much better, but I never felt like the Blair murals fit the land of were particularly good looking.

there are people who may think the work of Monet is not “particularly good looking” but a Monet is considered an artistic masterpiece no matter what your personal opinion is.

I was never excited about this project (I think because my family has deep roots in SF), but my impression after seeing this in person: I didn't hate it. It was still a pleasant place to eat lunch and the changes didn't feel obtrusive. I file this one with Pixar Pier in the heading of "changes that are unnecessary" aka "I wish they spent money on increasing attraction capacity instead".

This was the only thing that bothered me. And, again I think it is because my family is deeply rooted in SF. Ghiradelli is a landmark to the city and changing that mural just felt sacrilegious to me. Whatever. I'll live.

New photo backdrop street art mural added over the garage door next to the Ghirardelli.

The only thing that I can think of looking at this is that nobody wanted this. Nobody was asking for this.

It just doesn't belong. It's a little 'seven year old's first Spencer Gifts art' for my taste.

And it makes me wonder: is San Fransokyo supposed to be a real place? A cartoony place? Because this is an interesting combination of stark unthemed exteriors that wouldn't be out of place in a real city, but also a bright, candy colored aesthetic that wouldn't be out of place in some sort of animated universe or cell phone game. I don't remember ANYTHING in BH6 with that sort of bright, SweetTarts-esque level of color brightness.

Who is this for? What is the critieria for what fits and what doesn't for this area? What is the underlying logic? Is there any beyond "more IP=better"? So many questions.

This is all well and fine. Nothing close to mindblowing, but it's making a previously unremarkable corner of the property a bit more memorable.

Probably not a ton of value for the money it's costing, but that's true of basically everything nowadays.
