News Pacific Wharf to be Reimagined into San Fransokyo

I feel like most people will disagree with me, and that's perfectly fine, but I think this looks kind of neat. While I haven't been a fan of every IP squished into DCA I feel this one works well since San Fransoskyo is, of course, partially inspired by an actual city in California.

It also helps that it works with the ideology of the diverse culture of California, like Avengers Campus a representation of Silicon Valley in Norcal.

@LittleBuford Id like to apologize for coming off a bit strong earlier. You were just minding your own business and stating your opinion on something you like and I came out of nowhere a tad too aggressive. I don’t like when people do that to me so just wanted to say that I’m sorry.
Thanks, and no worries. We all let this place get the better of us sometimes. I appreciate the kind note.

LOL. Please do and report back. Yes that’s what it means as far as I know - average/ nothing special

I used "Mid" twice this weekend; at dinner last night and at a US Open party this afternoon.

Both times I got blank stares as I used it to describe menu options, but at least the dinner companions recovered their stares into giggles and asked me what the heck I was saying. At the US Open party today, the blank stare from a very old friend was followed up by asking if this was my first Bloody Mary of the day.

It means everything that the Disney parks have churned out in the past 15 years. Everything that isn’t complete and utter garbage, that is.

Great point. 🤣

To be fair, and @LittleBuford deserves credit for mentioning it, there have been at least a few solid hits in the past 15 years. Mickey's Runaway Railway and Cars Land at DCA come to mind.

And yet... Mickey's Runaway Railway only should count at Disneyland where it used all new acreage to expand the park physically and capacity-wise with an all-new attraction build. At DHS, it replaced a beloved high capacity E Ticket attraction in an existing show warehouse. Because... TDO and Florida. :banghead:

That and the queue is phenomenal. Better than the ride in my opinion. I was impressed with how much of a love letter it was to Mickey’s history.

The ride is cute (a solid 7/10), but it’s no Movie Ride. The projections are done well (for the most part) but physical sets and animatronics are always going to be more convincing to me.

So like, the imagineers now in charge of these projects are the people who never did any work in a group project in school?

Looks like they cut this piece and it didn't fit in the first place...

This is a new piece of equipment that is only three weeks old. And it needs to last for at least the next 20 years.

The executives now in charge of WDI and TDA are not serious people, and they've never operated a theme park before.

Not going to make excuses for the quality of the bridge pieces...

But isn't the head of WDI now Bruce Vaughn who co-leads it with Barbara Bouza. He has a fairly long history with WDI and I would consider him fairly serious.

Executives also aren’t involved doing design drawings, submittals, fabrication and installation. The coordination issues with the bridge have nothing to do with “being serious” or operating a theme park.

Exactly.

If I was to guess the issues with the bridge are due to a (sub)contractor not anything directly to do with WDI or whether they are "serious" or not.

I have to imagine this is temporary and fixes are coming.

It’s horrid as is.

I’d rather crazy long Disney timelines if fast projects result in this…
Fast project? The Pacific Wharf remodel was announced last summer and started work in January. Frankly, this entire remodel should've taken about a month, not eight.

They are directly involved to a degree because they take on roles in design, design documentation, contracting, shop drawing review, and construction administration. We cannot though determine the how and why just from the photos. There are so many things that could result in the concrete not being the right size that only blaming specific people or entities clearly don’t really know what they’re talking about.

Temporary in terms of construction means you put it in knowing it will be removed. This isn’t temporary and should not be excused as such. This was a botched install and having to redo the work doesn’t make it temporary.

I don’t think @Disney Analyst is implying it was intended to be temporary or excusing it. He’s just saying that he can’t believe it will be allowed to remain this way for long (and I share his belief).

After this install and the trouble in ToonTown, I think perhaps someone in TDA needs to rethink the contractors they hire. 🧐

Just curious..... Is this an industry-wide problem, post COVID?
