News Pacific Wharf to be Reimagined into San Fransokyo

I have to say. I haven’t seen anything this shoddy from Disney that I can think of. Even if some things aren’t the greatest choices, the quality isn’t like this. I have to hope that Disney knows this is terrible, and will fix it.
Go look at places like La Crêperie de Paris in Epcot where there were visible gaps between the floor and wall bases.

And this is the fundamental issue with Disney in 2023 - the assumption from the company and fans that every single inch of a Disney theme park must have a “Disney theme”.

Thank god these people weren’t around when New Orleans Square and World Showcase were built.

“The overlay of the land is effective. Yes, this is an incredibly cheap redo… but it mostly works. They took an area with no Disney theme, and they gave it one.”
I thought that too. It did have a Disney theme before, because it was designed, built, and operated by the Disney company. What he means is it didn’t have a Disney movie theme, and too often now people (including Disney itself) conflate the two

Pacific Wharf had one of the best area music loops in the park. Does San Fransokyo have a different loop? I imagine it must, but it's not like Big Hero 6 or San Fransokyo have recognizable music to pull from.

Wasn’t Everest a pay-off for Disney? And Soarin? Did the consumer speak against these things?

A great attraction is a great attraction, and I love Disney originals, I’d love to see more originals.

But the company has changed course. And consumers eat up this stuff. The merch, and speciality food sales, with the wait times for meeting a character… show this.

So unless people stop spending on these things, I don’t see it changing.

And regardless, this retheme is minor enough, the only negative I really see is the bridge being shoddy.

One last snide bridge remark, and then I'll go back to temporary radio-silence.

A suspension bridge combined with a truss bridge = suspenders and a belt.
So, something fitting for the park.

:) I've got no issue with someone not liking it. Not everyone has to like everything. (I'd tear down Galaxy's Edge in a heartbeat to get back Big Thunder Ranch BBQ. lol) I take issue with people who think there's no value or even negative value at Avengers Campus when there are clearly plenty of people who find the place super fun. :) So I appreciate your fair acknowledgement that it doesn't work for you and you'd prefer something different, but you see how much others enjoy it, without needing to disparage it.

Totally 👍

Though by the same logic, I feel quite comfortable mocking Hollywood Land, as I'm quite certain no one out there truly enjoys it. (Hollywood Land defenders, reveal yourselves!)

I would enjoy seeing the comic book characters at SHI/Islands of Adventure, and I like the comic book theming style of it. But since I couldn't ride the Spider-Man attraction there (due to motion sickness), it's far less appealing than Avengers Campus which has tons of characters & entertainment and an attraction I enjoy going on (WEB SLINGERS) in a park where there are only a handful of attractions I can do. (I rope dropped the other day for Rogers the Musical and to pass the extra morning time, I went on WEB SLINGERS, Monsters Inc., Little Mermaid, and Soarin' and then I just circled back to Avengers Campus for more characters and shows because there's nothing else in DCA I can ride other than the trolley!)

Oof, yeah, Marvel Super Hero Island is possibly the least accessible land imaginable for someone prone to motion sickness.

You raise a good point about DCA -- for years, it's needed more attractions in general, but especially more attractions that everyone can ride. Is a boat ride too much to ask?

Ouimet would be good too but why is Staggs the wrong guy?
He's an accountant. Nothing wrong with being an accountant. I love my accountant. But I wouldn't pick him to run Disney either. lol

I don't know why there's this mythic quality that's been built up around the guy online, but there were reasons he wasn't up to the task of leading the company and Bob didn't pick him in the first place to do so. (Not that I'm defending who Bob did pick either. lol)

✋

:D Next to Avengers Campus my fondest memories (and most hours spent) anywhere in the Disneyland Resort were in Hollywood Land.

From ElecTRONica to Mad T Party to Marvel character meets. And from Aladdin to Rogers the Musical (but not Frozen lol). All literally some of my best times ever.

My two favorite lands - based on personal experiences there - are Avengers Campus and Hollywood Land. :)

Granted, not much left in Hollywood Land anymore but good memories, but they will always make the place very special to me. :)

I dunno. All I know is it seems like good things were happening when he was there. Of course there could be a multitude of reasons for that.

😸 I think it's chido (cool), it's something different, new and fresh for the parks. I wish I could say that about the whole project.
Sorry for my English

Your English is just fine, and even much better than some native English speakers who have been educated by American public schools in the last 20 years. :)

Welcome to the Disneyland forum, by the way. Do you live in Baja California? I'd always thought it would be fun to have a few folks from Baja here to join in the discussions, since they get the SoCal Locals Discount tickets any way. 🤣

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. That’s the big thing he “did” that made everyone love him even though it was already in motion under Rasulo.

Staggs joined Disney in 1990. He was a part of the Strategic Planning Group which is where he rose to prominence. He became CFO in 1998, meaning he was a C-Suite executive during all of the great decisions made in the late 90s and early 00s. Despite being little discussed he was a major part of shaping modern Disney.
