News Pacific Wharf to be Reimagined into San Fransokyo

I just checked the Disneyland.com website. They are still using the title "Golden Vine Winery" as the nomenclature used to denote the 2001 large winery complex that now has four different dining/bar options;

Golden Vine Winery
Sonoma Terrace
(west side patio, serving craft beer and hearty bites)
Mendocino Terrace (east side patio, serving wine and upscale bites)
Magic Key Terrace (upstairs indoor/outdoor space, for Keyholders serving wine, cocktails, tapas)
Wine Country Trattoria (downstairs, full table service restaurant)

So it's not like they lost legal claim to the name Golden Vine Winery or anything. They're still using it to denote the locations of these dining places on their website. But their App and their official park map has now branded the Golden Vine Winery complex as Performance Corridor.

Sloppy and dumb. Also... just weird.

The Performance Corridor name goes back to DCA's opening in 2001. It was a dumb and pretentious way to say "parade route".

On that map from Food & Wine, the Performance Corridor location (H) for Kids Crafts identifies it as the western end of the World of Color viewing area near the Golden Zephyr. I'm not sure if they still consider the entire DCA parade route (which is the longest in any Disney theme park) to be "Performance Corridor"? But according to their new map, Performance Corridor is now shaded in grey and only includes the four dining locations at the Golden Vine Winery complex.

That Golden Vine Winery complex is outlined in Grape Purple on this map, with the DCA Parade Route Performance Corridor traced in red as it goes through the park.

Yes, my point was that its not a new "name", or even a "land".

I also don't think the winery dining location area has a new name. I think its just a bad placement on the map to denote an entertainment area. That appears to be one of the locations for the Halloween decor and such.

Yes, exactly.

It's a bad placement on the map to denote an entertainment area that has no actual entertainment, but is actually just a large dining complex of restaurants and bars that already had a well established name since 2001.

The people running the parks are... not bright people. They just keep proving it over and over again.

And next week there will be a new map and it'll probably be gone.

Note there will be something related to Oogie Boogie right around there, so who knows maybe it was meant to be for that.

Drab, concrete community college. What a disappointment.

Performance Corridor could easily be something like Montalvo Gardens in San Jose - (A sub land to Buena due to similar architecture) as a transition from Buena to Paradise Park:

I don't like how the view of the pier is now blocked. But the one true atrocity MUST BE FIXED ASAP.

WHO AUTHORIZED THE BRIGHT PINK 31 FLAVORS UMBRELLAS THAT CLASH WITH EVERYTHING THERE?!?!?!?

No, truly. It looks awful, that pink with orange and brown and everything else there in that color cacophony. :p

That said, the area does look better fully finished than when it was a work in progress and does work as one long stretch from Avengers Campus brickwork to Cars Land brickwork to San Fransokyo brickwork.

I was tempted by the Baymax bread until i saw the price was several dollars more than just buying a regular loaf, round or baguette.

Doesn’t “the pond” refer to the Atlantic? I always thought so as a Brit.

At any rate, the overlay looks fine to me, though things like the bent screw are inexcusable and need to be fixed.

Absolutely. I was watching Dusty’s MiceChat live yesterday, and he said the bridge looks like it was put together like Lego. Screws missing, poorly built, huge gaps between seams. Worried how it would handle a storm.

He said as whole the retheme is a net positive, but they will need to do a full refurb of the bridge already.

It’s very surprising to me that it ended up this way. I wonder what went wrong (incorrect measurements perhaps, or just a bad installation?). At any rate, I hope they fix is quickly.

I agree. It seems to me that they ended up having to rush the install, to meet the deadline.

No time for any fine tuning, it was basically put up, and guests on it the next day.

I hope they fix it, this is really sloppy.

I haven't seen this Baymax movie, was there a reason they had to call it San Fransokyo Square? Was that name in the movie, or are WDI and TDA trying to be cutesy and play off New Orleans Square next door?

If it's the latter, this is even more embarrassing for them than they probably realize. The design and installation of New Orleans Square was arguably the finest achievement of Walt's tenure in charge of WDI (then WED). It was a mastery of Imagineering and detail and showmanship. San Fransokyo Square seems to be almost the complete opposite, and almost scandalous to try and compare the two, let alone equate them from park to park.

July, 1966 - Walt Disney opens New Orleans Square, the first expansion of Disneyland and the last Walt will see himself.

Walt flew out New Orleans Mayor Schiro to help open his new land for the opening ceremony. Here, Walt shows off the detailing to Mayor Schiro in the Court of Angels, perfume blending at Madame Antoinette's Parfumerie, etc.

August, 2023 - No one from TDA shows up to open San Fransokyo Square, a lightly rethemed mall food court.

Here on opening day, amateur fans notice how cheaply put together the fake miniature golf bridge is. The magic of San Franksokyo Square seems to be not in discovering what immersive Imagineering and detailing that is there, but in discovering what's not there and how cheaply it was Imagineered and installed.

Did they really need to twist the knife even further on their own creative demise by calling this San Franksokyo Square? Couldn't they have just called it San Fransokyo Wharf or something?

There were also a bunch of random darker colored replacement planks on the bridge. It definitely felt rushed.

I love Avengers Campus! Might be the only one here but I think it's great. I've been to both California and Paris and I love both versions.

Hey, more power to ya. I'm puzzled by WDI's choices for Avengers Campus, but given the level of excitement I can sense from other guests whenever I walk through the land, it's quite possible I'm in the minority. I'm okay with toning down my cynicism when it comes to attractions/lands I don't necessarily love but other fans clearly adore (Haunted Mansion Holiday, to name another).

Of course, I'm a huge fan of Marvel Super Hero Island at Islands of Adventure, so who knows what that says about my judgment.
