TRON was a decision made in panic. It was announced before any design work had seriously begun. The original timeline was actually not too bad, but they fully mothballed it during the pandemic. Not just a slowdown of work, but a complete shut down that involved sealing up the building as it stood. The full hiatus didn't end up actually lasting all that long, so they wasted a lot of time sealing up the building and then undoing that effort, then who knows what orders were put on hold due to the hiatus that then slipped further behind because their priority was lost. It went from a decent timeline effort to just pathetic.
What were they panicking about?

Im sure 90+ percent of people will be thrilled with the new coaster when it opens, no matter how long its taken to build.

Agreed, Tron will be insanely popular, at worst it’ll be the new Seven Dwarfs where nearly everyone loves it but many will also secretly wish it was longer.

Every time I ride 7DMT I think “if only…” but that doesn’t prevent us from riding it every time we go to MK and still enjoying the heck out of it.

Which is a really wild choice considering Tron's capacity is not great. Their crowing about it being the most popular ride at SHDL was also a lie.

Disney stays lying and over exaggerating about things. It’s ridiculous and sometimes cringe-worthy.

What's interesting is that Tron is actually not THAT much shorter than Disneyland's Space Mountain-it's only about a difference of 300 feet in length, which isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. It's also only about 30 feet shorter than the shorter of the two tracks on WDW's Space Mountain.

But Tron FEELS much shorter for whatever reason. Perhaps because both Space Mountains wrap around many times within their structure and Tron is in much more expansive building, particularly compared to DL's. It's experientially hollow in comparison to either US Space Mountain, but people will eat it up because people like shiny, instagrammable things. Theoretically anyway-we'll have to see if Guardians works against its reception in Florida.

I'm guessing Pirates simply has to be the most popular ride in Shanghai for sheer capacity reasons alone.

It’s not really easy to say which ride in a park is the most popular, and Pirates certainly burns through people with those giant boats. However, there’s one attraction there that guests are clearly more enamored with than any other, and it’s Soarin’. But that doesn’t help sell Tron to the Florida flock, so they made up a stat.

more quick turns on space mountain so it feels like you are doing more, and tron is much smoother so you dont "feel" like you have ridden as long. Thats my guess at least.

Except it isn't a wild mouse coaster. A wild mouse has an upper level of sharp 180 degree curves. Space Mountain is more of a spiral coaster. Goofy's Sky School is a wild mouse.
