Our Wonderful Wacky Waterparks Weekend!

My husband is finally getting some time off!! So we’ve decided to try to use up some of our Water Parks and More credits on our tickets and visit exclusively Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach for the long upcoming weekend! I am even more excited because I just purchased a waterproof camera case so I can take my camera to more places in the water parks. Soooo, here’s hoping I get lots and lots of fun pictures! Keep in mind that we will also be visiting many resorts, Boardwalk, Downtown Disney and trying a bunch of new places we’ve never eaten at. We’re excited for new adventures outside the 4 main Disney parks! See you next week for the continuation of the report!

More Boardwalk

My goal was to hit up Beaches N Cream and surprise the kids with a Kitchen Sink
DSC03089.jpg

But there was an hour’s wait L so we skipped it this time. (We would make up for it on our last day with an incredible dessert at Trex though.)

REFLECTION: DAY 1

I wasn't a big fan of Grand Floridian Cafe, but I'm glad we tried it. We really enjoyed starting our mini vacation at Typhoon Lagoon. I love trying new things and we'd never been there so that was a bonus! It will be under refurb when we come back in December so I'm especially we were able to take this last minute trip and experience all TL has to offer. The surf pool was probably the highlight overall if you surveyed our family. As you can tell, we also spent a lot of time at the Boardwalk for the remainder of our day. Great food, great time strolling around checking out the sights, lights and for the kids, the ducks. I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s such a wonderful area, and so beautiful at night.

Loving the report Mel!! I can not believe how big your little guys got!!!

I am so glad that you are writing this report, b/c I was actually thinking of doing a quick long weekend getaway to Orlando over the summer. I would like to go to Universal for aday to check out the new Wizarding world of Harry Potter, then to do a Disney waterpark, DTD and the boardwalk.

Great report, Melanee!! I get a real sense of how relaxing the day was! I can't wait to read more, especially about your first experience with the Food and Wine Festival. :sohappy:

I had to repost because I can hardly contain my excitement! I've been busy packing and cleaning and every bit is fun because I know I'm so close to being there!! :sohappy: Why don't I go ahead and write any and all that I can pre-trip:

Here's our Disney Family:

DSC01977.jpg

Myself: Melanee-28, picture-taker, adventurous mom!
DH: Ben-32, a new Disney lover, soon-to-be Coast Guard helicopter pilot!
DS: Caleb-9
DS: Samuel-6
DS: Aaron-4

Quick mention: This trip is right after our 9 year anniversary and since this year is special in that we are renewing or vows later this month, we decided to “celebrate” that!!

Here’s my last trip report from back in May:
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=438633

So a week or two ago my hubby informs me that he’s nearing the end of an intense training block and that he thinks he may finally get a little time off, just in time for a 3-day weekend. We got the Military tickets back in May and our tickets still had plenty of days left, mostly water parks. So we decided to go for it and do a Water Parks Weekend! We’ve still never been to Typhoon Lagoon and it will be under refurb when we come for our full trip in December.

So I got on the phone and did what any smart Disney-fan does and immediately started trying to make ADRs with very little luck. No character breakfasts, no Boma, not much at all!! So I just kept calling back. I have got to tell you, keep calling back, it pays off! I ended up with ressy’s for Ohana’s character breakfast and a dinner at Boma amongst all other new places we’ve never been. I am so excited! :sohappy:

WHERE does everyone get these window stickies? I have to find them!!

Loved the pics. A waterpark weekend sounds so much fun! One of these days we'll make it over there...

Great pictures for a water proof camera. Thank you, enjoyed reading your Trip Report.

Thanks!

I'm lovin' it!!! More more more!!! :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Thanks!! I'll be writing some more tomorrow. I am going to school and the weekend put me slightly behind...

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing as I poured over my pictures! My littlest especially is growing so far out of the baby stage. The water parks are super duper fun! We made it to both, so I'll be writing about Blizzard Beach later(Day 3) And like I said, so relaxing!

It was awesome!! I know we didn't do nearly as much as there was to do but we had a great time! Day 2 for us.

WHERE does everyone get these window stickies? I have to find them!!

Thanks! I bought mine at the laughingplace.com store.

Loving your TR so far! Your boys are so adorable! So are you staying on property in December?

Man, I'm gonna try, but I doubt it. Armed Forces Vacation Club offers beautiful 2 bedroom/full kitchen condos for only $329 a week and the location is really nice, really close to property(like 5 minutes). We'll probably do that to save money. We do a lot of resort exploring by eating at all the restaurants. I do have to admit, its not exactly the same...

Day 2: Chef Mickey's

Today we woke up early for an ADR at the Wave actually. Once at the Contemporary, I went ahead of Ben and the kids and snuck up to see if there were any walk-ins for Chef Mickey's. There were!! So I put our name up and we were in, just like magic! (Thank you Sweetpee for suggesting checking for walk-ins!)

This is the sunrise at the Contemporary

Yay!

DSC03142.jpg

As soon as we started walking toward the dining area, my kids started to get excited. The characters were already out and we got there right as one of the "parties" were happening. They were so surprised and excited!

We were seated toward the back, near the double doors at the kitchen. It was really close to the buffet.

DSC03122.jpg

Now I didn't take too many food pictures, but I have to say that I loved the vanilla-apple granola and the veggie lasagna was very yummy indeed! Having a buffet-style was a huge turnaround from our nibble-portions from the morning before.

Oh yes, and it doesn't matter if it is breakfast when you are celebrating your anniversary! Cupcakes are always in fashion!

The little Halloween cats were too cute

Don't ya just love this? My hubby wasn't much of a Disney fan a year ago, but after a couple of trips this year, he's sporting is vintage Mickey tee, a Mickey visor and he insisted we wear our Anniversary buttons everywhere. (9 years by the way) I love him! :o

Oh yay!!! I'm glad my little tip helped someone! :sohappy: My thought is always: What's the worst that can happen if I ask? They'll say no. Not a problem for me. I've been told no lots and lots in this lifetime.

You had the good seats! We've eaten in the big room straight thru when you enter all the way in the back like 4 or 5 times, the room to the left when you walk in twice I think, to the right when you walk in once (I think that's where the new photo op area is now, it was a loooong time ago), and in that area where you were by the kitchen doors at least 3 times. My favorite spot is by the kitchen close to the grub. We always sit in the 1/2 booth area with the bench part backing up to the buffet. I'm glad y'all got that spot! :sohappy:

That veggie lasagna you mentioned, that the Goofy veggie lasagna right? With the light, flaky crust? Has cheese and veggies including zucchini and stuff all in it? OMG! That's what I go to Chef Mickey's breakfast to eat! I don't even bother with the other stuff anymore. That's the only restaurant I've found it in and I crave the stuff. Seriously! A trip to Chef Mickey's for me is coffee with milk and 2 big ol' horkin' plates of Goofy's veggie lasagna. I got the recipe a couple years ago but it has a bazillion ingredients some of which I have no idea what they even are. I'm not a very good cook. If a recipe calls for more than 5 or 6 ingredients (let alone stuff I can't identify) I won't even try it. I can follow instructions very well so that's not the issue. I just get intimidated. LOL! Plus, that'd be a loooot of work to cook something nobody else in my family eats but me. Oh. Wait a minute. I could have it all to myself! Lemme rethink this. Where'd I put that recipe.... :p

The vintage Mickey shirt your sweetheart is wearing...Tracey has that one, too. In fact, he has 2! He bought the XL when we were on our 15th anniversary trip but it shrunk up too much in the length. Some friends of ours went to WDW last April so we had them pick up the same shirt in XXL. He wears it all the time. :D

The Contemporary and Monorail

After breakfast we walked through the Contempo a bit and headed toward the Monorail

DSC03143.jpg

Then our second bit of magic happened. We really needed air in our stroller tires, it is a must when you've got two kids. We thought we were probably going to try to get ourselves back to our hotel to drive to the Hess station which was going to be a big pain and take at least an hour. Instead, Ben grabbed a maintenance guy who happened to be walking by down in the lobby. He graciously offered to take our stroller into the back and he put air in the tires for us. It was a HUGE life-saver!!:sohappy:

Here we waited, watching classic Disney cartoons

So of course, we got off at the TTC and boarded the monorail to EPCOT. This was a first, I've never ridden the EPCOT monorail.

Here's some pics from the ride around EPCOT

As soon as we passed through the turnstiles, I spotted Stitch coming out, no line! So I left DH to take the kids for a M&G and I went to get FPs for Soarin'.

The kids and Stitch
DSC03158.jpg

So as I was getting FPs, DH texts me and tells me that he and the kids are getting on Spaceship Earth because there was no line! I wanted to be irritated because he didn't wait for me, but then I figured they'd get to go twice then. So I went into the Epcot Camera Center to get out of the (already) heat. While there I picked up a brochure about some sort of Princess and the Frog promotion that I'd hadn't yet heard of. Apparently all you have to do is go to one of the designated shops within one of the 4 Disney theme parks, show your (adult) valid park tickets and you will get a movie money gift card in the amount of $8 (per ticket) to use to see The Princess and the Frog in December! Cool! Third little bit of surprise magic in my opinion.

Here's a link to more info

So next we took a ride on Spaceship Earth.

It was very tempting to take flash photos but I was proud of myself for not, and following the rules(even though some girl behind me was not:zipit:)

After we found Nemo, naturally we went to visit Crush
DSC03181.jpg

Samuel got chosen for a question. He said, "You know when you have that shell on, you look totally awesome." Crush said, "Thanks Human Dude! Great question..." it was silly. Then he told everyone about how the shell is made of the same thing as those things at the ends of our fingers and had Samuel tell everyone what they were (fingernails obviously).

Our Crush was really great this time. The CM makes all the difference in this show.

Youtube won't let me see! Says it's a private video... :lookaroun

...which of course makes me want to see it even more!:lol:

:hammer:DUH, I didn't even think of that. I changed it up for everyone!

Thanks for the comments. Yes, that's the same lasagna!! When I saw it I remembered how you raved about it so of course I HAD to try it! It is seriously yummy!! Definitely a different item for a breakfast menu as well, out of the ordinary.

How funny too that it it was the exact same booth. Yes, right on the end, and backed up to the buffet where the fruit is. Great spot!

That's great!

Congratulations on your anniversary! :sohappy:

I am trying to convert my fiance into a Disney fan. He has never been to any of the parks, so we will see how that turns out after our first visit. Who knows if I'll ever manage to get him into Disney apparel.

The military rooms sound like a fabulous deal, but I agree with you, there is nothing like staying on property. However, being able to even go to WDW beats anything else.

Thank you!!

Hmmm, is your fiance into sports? I know one thing that instantly won my hubby over was the ESPN Club at the Boardwalk. Another thing at the beginning was Biergarten. Lots of "man food". Any place with a great steak or great beer does it for my hubby. He also loves World Showcase, Mission:Space, Soarin', Rock n Rollercoaster, Everest and Illuminations.

I think once guys realize that Disney is so much more than castles, princesses and cartoon characters, they are won over.
