Our 8th WDW Adventure..the trip I 'took out' one of my teenage sons..that's Rippin'!

Here it is, the next installment in our Disney adventures hot off the press for your reading pleasure. For those who’ve followed my last reports (and I, theirs) rest assured that this report will rival my first from January ’09. One of y’all must’ve ratted me out to Tinkerbell and had her read my last report because she tracked us down after we got to WDW and thoroughly flogged us with her wand o’pixie dust. We inhaled. Then we drank the water. The result was a rocket-shot straight to the top of the magic-meter....and our faith in wishing upon stars to make dreams come true has been restored in full and then some. So....please stand clear of the doors....por favor mantanganse alijado de las puertas....hold onto your hats and glasses, ‘cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!!!!

Preface: ((<---heh-heh...Who puts a preface in their TRs???))

I couldn’t do this report justice without a bit of back-story for the usual gang out there who tunes in. Everyone else can just skip forward. Let’s be honest, we all sorta vaguely follow each other’s lives indirectly by reading each others’ reports and conversing over various topics. We catch the milestones as they relate to our common thread of Disney addiction. I don’t know if others are as insane as we are but our lives tend to revolve around our Disney adventures in some way, shape, or form. The significance of our 8th family adventure can’t be appreciated unless you hear some of the highlights since we last left you at the conclusion of our 7th trip in January this year.

Did ya notice the underlying sadness in that last trip and report? We did. For months we blamed it on Mother Nature’s cruel-n-frigid prank with the weather. As 2010 progressed we came to understand where the dark cloud that seemed to follow us around really came from. It came from us. Yep. We did that. Going into that trip we knew that this year was going to be rough. Tracey had already been job searching for over a month. We knew his project was nearing completion and jobs in his line of work were evaporating daily. Even with the nest-egg we had worked so hard to prepare ourselves with, the uncertainty the future held was overwhelming. So we arrived at WDW on that trip not knowing if or when we’d be able to return. The thought that we were staring down what could potentially be our last adventure for quite some time was heartbreaking. For an example: the joy & excitement in arriving was overshadowed from the very start by the sad idea that we possibly wouldn’t have that again. You see? It was those kinds of things that had us dragging that dark rain cloud around with us everywhere we went. At the conclusion of our January 2010 trip we actually gave thought to the idea that maybe our pixie dusted glasses had been shattered and the magic that used to live within our hearts had all but died. I wasn’t sure we’d ever go back even if everything worked out in the months to come.

And then life has it’s way of flinging the perspective stick it at you. In our family’s case, it was the whole stinkin’ tree.

Our year of insanity included: Tracey unemployed for the first time in 17 years, me standing up to the bubba’s in the public school system here and taking back control of our children’s educations, Tracey set a new record for himself (gotta laugh) for the most number of employers within a single year at 4 while the boys & I plunged headlong into homeschool together which is HUGE and life-changing in itself. It’s been crazy with all the twists-n-turns and the ups-n-downs. There were numerous times we could literally see ourselves losing everything we’ve worked so hard for all these years. In spite of everything that life threw at us, we were still happier than we’d been in a long time. Like Mama Odie says to Tiana & Naveen, ya gotta know whatcha neeeeeed. With each other we have always had everything we needed. Everything else, all the stuff, even Walt Disney World...it’s all just the lagniappe. Without life kicking us square in the tookus so our big ol’ heads could pop out for 2 1/2 minutes we might have gone on overlooking the best stuff in life.

And so we arrived at our 8th Walt Disney World adventure raring to go with a renewed perspective and a whole lot to be thankful for: each other.

Enough of all that mushy-gushy stuff. Let’s get this show on the road!

Here’s the particulars and the plan:

WHO: Tracey/DH, Chandler/DS-14 yro, Brian/DS-13 yro, Riley Belle/DFG (Dear Furry Girl), and Kelly/me!

WHERE & WHEN: (it was a 3 week multi-part road trip)

<-- 11/8-11/11..........Gramma’s house in Pensacola, Florida
<-- 11/11-11/21........Walt Disney World: Port Orleans French Quarter and Best Friends Pet Resort
<-- 11/21-11/28........My folk’s house/Nana & Grandpaw’s house in Monroeville, Alabama

THE TWISTS:

The boys & I aren’t limited to the schedule that Tracey has with work. We drove and had fun along the way. Tracey flew in to meet us at WDW on arrival day and flew back to Houston on departure day. Thanksgiving morning he flew again & I picked him up. Even with all the gas in the car added to Tracey’s airfare(s) we still spent less than we would’ve for the 4 of us to fly round trip to Orlando. We haven’t had our own car at WDW with us since our 4th family trip. Having our car there was something I really, really wanted again and am sooooo glad we did. Besides, I love a good road trip and that time spent with just me & the boys was a blast!

Okay, I'm starting day 6 right now, but I have to say OMG Amber Crabbie!!! :ROFLOL: That is too hilarious! When I started that day, I was like, who's Amber Crabbie? Thinking I missed something. :lookaroun:lol: Priceless!

I'm sorry Chandler's knee got hurt. I hope it gets better during the trip!

I know all about teen angst! I figured it was better with boys than with girls, but I guess no one is immune!

Thanks for posting such a great trip report!

It definitely made me look forward to my trip and it even helped me figure out where to find Jimminy Cricket for one of my friends!

Oh, and I love the shoes that you got at GF, they are so cute. :]

Things have been crazy, but I finally got around to finishing up your TR. AWESOME TR!!!!!:sohappy:

I had a total LOL moment when I saw the pics from the rest stop in Okahumpka. We always stop there and my dad has a lovely little catch phrase for it that I'm just way too embarrassed to share.

Good to see the positive reviews on the pet boarding. We've thought about that in case we drive for our next trip...although, by that point we'll likely be a 2-Dog-Family and with one large and one extra large dog...just don't know if we'll want to take them on a road trip. Still good to know!

Kind of sad the report had to come to an end, but I'm sure you'll treat us with another GREAT TR the next time you guys go.

I just spent a lovely lazy Sunday morning on the couch reading your TR! Your reports are always entertaining and I love the way you tell a story :) Thanks for sharing your family's story with us.

I'm so jealous you met TJ! In all our trips to WDW and the amount of times we have rode TOT during each trip, I have yet to find him. I've never asked for him, but I look every time! I feel stalkerish!

The boys wanted to see MJ in Captain EO. They had heard me carry on about it since I read the news that they were bringing it back. I have no issue with MJ. I remember the movie from ’86 and how strangely silly we I thought it was as a 12 year old when MJ, Solid Gold-style choreography, and that sort of stuff was actually all the rage. The movie would NEVER have come back if the man hadn’t died and all the hype in the media machine hadn’t blown up like it did. Some people say it’s a tribute to bring it back. Really? Really? Have you seen EO??? You want a tribute to MJ and you’re gonna use THAT as the defining piece? ? Um, no. It’s blatant cashing-in on the man’s hype surrounding the celebrity of his name BECAUSE HE DIED. And that in & of itself is completely wrong. But my kids wanted to see this piece of theatrical hilarity so Tracey & I went into it with the thought that if nothing else we’d have a few laughs.

The pre-show mini-documentary is actually very interesting. I really got into the making of the piece and even found myself a little excited to be seeing it again. We took our seats and the show began. The use of the moving theater and the effects was really the best part for me. I found my mouth kept drying out from my jaw-dropped amazement at the cheese-factor of the puppetry, the script, the choreography, and everything other than the theater movement and other theater affects. So we exit the building and there’s this awkward silence among all of us. I was waiting to hear what the boys had to say. Tracey, in is comedic glory, comes out with, “I may be old and not remember some stuff but I **know** Michael Jackson’s shoulders did NOT make that sound.” ROFLMAO! Nope. They didn’t. When Chandler stopped laughing he asked us if that was what it was like for us as kids in the 80s. We asked for clarity on the question. He wanted to know if that’s what was cool when that movie was made? Was that what music and entertainment was for us when we were kids. The answer is mostly no but sorta yes. No in that EO was a bit to far in the cheese even by our standards as kids. As a 12 year old it was a dumb movie with a stupid plot and I remember thinking MJ should be embarrassed. Then I forgot about and ran upstairs to the old Imageworks to have some real fun. Yes in that the 80s was a time when people wore clothes too tight and/or shiny, they teased their hair too much, used too much Aqua Net, smeared the blue eye-makeup on too thick, over-choreographed every dance move, etc. etc. It was almost like a time of cartoonish quality. I guess that put his mind at ease a little. He still just shakes his head when EO comes up. I joke with them about it, too. “I told you so. Now that’s 17 minutes of your life you’ll never get back.” LOL!

[/QUOTE]

Exactly my sentiments on EO. Although I admit we did see it twice, one of those times was to take a nap. My sentiments are a little stronger, actually, but still basically the same.

WDW Day 11 - November 21st: Goodbyes are never easy...

We had an early breakfast ADR at Crystal Palace this morning so I set my alarm for 6:00. When the alarm went off I thought about it, rolled the guilt of skipping out on a good ADR around in my head, then finally decided that with so little sleep and such a long drive ahead for me Mickey would want me to stay in bed & rest so we could come back another day. I didn’t get up until 7:30. Everyone got dressed & we had the car totally packed up by 9.

I had mulled those 50% off Birkis at the GF in my mind all evening and again this morning. I told Tracey about them, too. We knew we couldn’t go anywhere in the car like we had all week with it totally packed out now. It was decided that Tracey would run me over to the GF, let me out at the door so I could run in to get the Birki’s, then meet me back out front. While we were running to the GF the boys were going to stay in the arcade at the resort & get a bite of breakfast.

Tracey & I made our run over to GF as planned. Smooth sailing! I was also able to use my AP discount for a total of 60% off the original price. I love getting a good deal! The GF’s lobby was insane busy, tho. I’m glad this was our check-out day because things were really crazy going into the holiday week.

When we returned to POFQ we found that the boys had been playing instead of eating while we were gone (which honestly wasn’t more than 20 minutes total). We all headed into Sassagoula Floatworks for breakfast one last time.

I took a few pics on our way over to the boat to DtD. Brian is so silly with the poses he comes up with:

I snapped a few pics on the boat, too. Brian looked so sad this morning:

Chandler did, too, but this shot was so funny it kinda kills the somber tone:

I liked the theming of the Tren-D window displays. Ursulla:

...and Cruella DeVille:

Our first stop at DtD was Team Mickey for Tracey to find a new Dallas Cowboys hat. Brian was watching the guy make the baseball bats in the front of the store. He had a little scrap that came off the end of one bat which he quickly shaped into a tiny 6” bat. He pointed to Brian then motioned for him to walk to the counter nearby. He came out & handed Brian the little baby bat. So cute! Brian just treasures the thing. I wish I’d thought to get that guy to sign it. That would’ve been neat.

After Team Mickey we gave World of Disney a shot. Normally it’s such a zoo in there that I steer clear but it was still early enough in the day that we could actually enjoy it.

Chandler modeled a cute pair of Mickey ears for us:

Those POFQ gators are awesome! I’ve only ever seen the resort while passing by in the boat, I can’t wait to see those in person.

You know, I think a preface is a really good way to start out a TR. Whomever came up with that idea must be pretty cool. ;)

I fear the day when Sarah and I have kids that become school-age. If we’re still living in Indianapolis then, there’s no way we’ll do public schools. Not only is the system crap, but there is no way I’d want my kids around some of the other students. That may sound elitist or whatever, but I don’t want my kids by exposed to guns and drugs in the 4th grade, pregnancy shortly thereafter, and the whole host of other deviant activity that goes on around here.

To each his own on the Leave a Legacy thing, I guess. I think the Tiles Around the World (or whatever they’re called) are great, as they aren’t intrusive into the aesthetics of the park, and give some nice character. I can see why those who have LaL photos like it, but I think its look was poorly executed.

I hear your sentiments about the PhotoPass photographers. We used to get PhotoPass cards so we could have the option of buying later just in case some of our shots didn’t turn out, but now we only take the cards to be polite, since we have them use our cameras to take photos of us at the character meet and greets (and other locations). The only thing “professional” about them is that they get paid to take pictures. Beyond that, most have no photography background (although some are serious hobbyists or art students).

There were a lot of other things I intended upon commenting on, but didn’t multi-quote, and now I can’t remember...dangit.

Overall it sounds like you had a great trip, the teenage drama notwithstanding; thanks for posting!

I have sooooo much to catch up on! Now that the holidays are officially over for us (all road trips and gatherings complete) I can catch up and read all these trip reports floating around out here that I've yet to get to. Then I gotta hit my sewing list hard....

As always Kelly, what an AMAZING report!!! I so enjoyed it! Glad Chandler's knee is better!!!

Your summary at the end is oh so true!!! Life throws us all curveballs, but at the end of the day its the memories that we make that are what we will remember.

Thanks! I tried to capture it all the way it was from my perspective. I'm glad Chandler's knee is all better, too. Can you imagine the Mom-guilt I would've had to endure if he'd torn something in there??? Gah!

So true on the summary. I try to remember to welcome the curveballs because it's how we handle adversity that truly shows you what you're made of. <--remind me to write that down & staple it to my forehead next time I'm all whining & crying over life's tribulations... LOL!

I read your entire trip report today, I think I did very little else. (Good thing it's quiet at work this week!) So thank you for entertaining me today! :D I love your writing style and just the way that you share the stories.

I was also entertained that you and I took several of the same exact shots (and even from the same angles at times!). It was like looking at some of my photo albums! :)

I totally noticed that when I was reading your trip report! The one that grabbed me was the hoofstock barn on the train to Rafiki's. You know what they say...great minds and all... LOL!

My sister is lurking behind me (the home computer is in her bedroom - she's actually been waiting for an hour for the computer.. and wants me to tell everyone she's real pretty and gets her braces off soon) and is making fun of my excitedness over this TR.

C: Was that a day?
K: That was like.. supper
C: Oh. Well, hurry.
K: Stopp, she writes good TRs.
C: Oh, so this is like a big deal for you? You probably know their whole life story.

She's a jerk, but enjoying the pix too <3 hahah

I love the randomness of your responses! I say that with such love & admiration. Honest. Not everyone has the ability to capture a moment the way you do. Looove that!

How old is your sister??? I have a 13 yro & soon-to-be 15 yro...both are very good boys & I've drilled 'em to death about treatin' the ladies right... :D

Very good report!! Sat here and read every bit of it last night while watching my poor Falcons get beat by the Saints. Oh well the city still needs the Saints to win... anyways.... super report, loved it to death. We are going in March and this report alone will keep me going till then!! Thank you very much!! Also your family is great and when is the movie coming out!!

Happy Holidays to you and yours!!!

I love trip reports! It's a way to read adventure stories about my favoritest place. And they're all (mostly) true which is the big kicker! I learn a lot from reading TR's, too.

I'm not a football person but we did have a big Super Bowl party last year. Our neighbors behind us said they knew who won without even having their tv on. Our dearest friends (the ones who used to be our house/dog-sitters) were here & the Mister was born & raised near New Orleans. It was the cutest thing when the game ended because he literally had tears streaming. It was awesome. Hubby says he doesn't think the Saints will make the big game this year. That's okay, tho. Like I said, I'm not a football person. I mostly threw that whole party last year for our friends. Silly, huh?

Thanks for the kind words on the family! Hhhmmm...who to get to play ME in the movie?!?! Before I lost all the weight everyone swore I looked like Kate Winslet in the face....

Oh I knew I forgot something in my last post!!! The Disney Dooneys!!! Oh I just love them!!! I now have 2!!! The most recent being the Mickey balloon wristlet that dear friends that I actually met in Disney last year got me for my birthday!!!

I've become such a Disney Dooney junkie!!! I have 4 now! My dolly-friend that I buy Disney pins and toys for every trip sent me a balloon wristlet for Christmas. She's nutters! I love the Harvey's seatbelt bags, too, but the sizes seem either on the small side or the bigger bags lack the right details for me. I'd love to see other popular brands do more with Disney like Coach and more apparel & accessories from Lucky Brand. Maybe it's better that they don't. I'd be so broke!

So sad your report is over. :( Thanks for all the time and energy you put into sharing with us other disney dorks!

Love the shoes you got at GF....never knew they had something like that!

Awwwww...I hope you aren't too sad. :( Yeah, the reports are a ton of work but sooooo rewarding, too. I loved your last report so much. Originally I had intended to post more pics of the boys from years past the way you did. Some of those aren't in digital files so it would've added a whole other task sorting thru the albums, scanning, etc. If I had added that task to the process I would've been well after the holidays posting the report.

I love love love the Birki's!!! I saw the various designs on eBay over a year or more ago but they were being sold at full-price which was $110+. I've never had Birkenstocks before. Even tho I've known lots & lots of people who swear by them and never heard a negative thing about them I always felt like that was a lot of money to plunk down & chance being uncomfortable. Thank goodness they were on clearance when I finally got to try them on. It was instant love. I wish a couple years ago when I finally tried on a pair of Ugg boots those had been on sale.... sheesh! LOL!

Wonderful trip report, as always!:sohappy: I felt the pain for you all on the last day. It's so hard, especially when you don't know when you'll be back again. Even though my next trip is 3 weeks away and I'm excited to go, I'm already dreading that last day feeling!!

And thank you so much for entertaining me on my veeeeeery slow work week... Not that I read your TR while I was supposed to be working. Never. :lookaroun

Anyway, good luck to you and your family! It seems to be tough times all around these days. But you are right, they make us appreciate each other all the more and that's what really matters. I'm sure you'll work out a way to make another trip in the near future. Positive thoughts!

We're still not sure when we'll make it back. The January trip that was upsetting. This time it really isn't. That in itself is a cool thing. It's like we've arrived at this point where we know it'll come & don't feel the need to know exactly when that will be. When the time is right, it'll happen. Maybe that's another thing this past year of change & uncertainty has been for: to remind us to have faith in what is meant to be rather than run around like crazy people acting on every whim. Over the holidays Tracey & I spent time chit-chatting with his 17 yro niece. Of the 7 nieces/nephews in his family, she's the one I've always been closest to. Anywhoo, she has always wanted to go to WDW with us. Her family went once but because of her brother's limitations (Aspie) they didn't get to do a whole whole lot. She asked us a ton of questions about cost because now that she's working she wants to save up enough to go with us next time. She even said that she'd rather go with us on a trip than go on her senior trip next year. Tracey told her if she saved enough to pay for her park ticket then next trip we'll take her. That in itself is exciting to me! I would have such a blast with another girl on the adventure!!!

Thanks so so much for the positive thoughts. We haven't had near as tough a go of things as other so I try not to feel sorry for us. We've been pretty blessed, actually. Kind folks like yourself are part of that blessing. So thank you for your kindness.

I love reading your TRs, and this was no different. So glad you and your family had a magical trip! :sohappy:

Thank you so much! The compliments on my reports really mean a lot! I'm glad this trip was more magical for us, too. I suspect that had a lot to do with us being open to it this time. :animwink:

Another fantastic trip report:). Loved looking at all the photos. My family and I are staying at POFQ for the first time nxt August, really looking forward to it. Shame its so far away but thats why i read all these TR's!

Keep reading the TRs! They'll get you thru and give you fun ideas for your trip. I love POFQ. Chandler sums it up well whenever he talks about it: POFQ feels like home to us. By August the refurbed rooms will be all done so you'll get the fresh rooms. Now I'm jealous!!! Come back, do a report, and post lots of pics fo the new room interiors for me! Please????

Yay! A Kelly trip report! I read it all tonight!

I loved your pictures! SO many great moments.

I'm so glad Chandler's knee is okay! And I loved his crocs!!:D

Oh yes, Tammy! This trip was awesome on many levels. My goal is to find great moments in our everyday lives. With my bunch, that's not all that hard to do. LOL!

Chandler loves his Crocs! His dad & I have a question, tho. Have you washed your son's? Chan wears his without socks (of course) and, man, do those things stink! LOL! I think I'm gonna chance them falling apart in the washer either way because the stench is killin' us. We make him leave them in the garage nowadays. :lookaroun They are a versatile shoe. Chandler wears his with jeans & tshirts, too, and they look just as good as with shorts.

Woohoo! This is so FUN!!! I'm loving every minute!

I've just gotten through your first day at Disney... the boys are looking so mature! And I love that you took their picture in front of the room door!

I'm going back for more now!

Glad you enjoyed the start. I thought I was too wordy with the preface & all. I think maybe that was more for my benefit than anyone else's. LOL!

Oh yeah! Amber Crabbie! Whenever he wears that shirt now that's what I think of. So funny! Then when he gets into one of his teen moods all I can think of is "Mr. Crabby".

The knee didn't improve during the trip. It wasn't until after we got home that he started to improve. At this point he's pretty well back to normal. He does see the wisdom in maintaining a better level of physical fitness than what we have of recent. Even the doctor told him that if he worked to strengthen himself more he'll be better able to avoid and recover from the knee episodes.

When I read your last report and you mentioned how touchy your daughter was sometimes I thought maybe teenage girls were harder to handle like that. It's like my mother-in-law says, tho: you can't even think anything remotely like "not my kid" when you see other kids' struggles. It's a curse. If you even *think* it, it'll happen. Like when our oldest nephew, Jack, was 2 and he watched Barney incessantly and threw the most horrible temper tantrums ever. I made no bones about it. My kids were never gonna watch that dorky purple dinosaur and if my kid threw a fit like that it'd only take one time because I'd whip that right out of him. Yeah. Chandler watched Barney non-stop. We could drive him around the country for days on end as long as we had a tv/vcr in the car & a Barney tape. Notice I said "a Barney tape". Yeah. Because they want to watch the same one over and over and over and over. Just the other day the kids were together with their cousins and a conversation ensued about trying to recall some of the words to the songs. My sis-in-law & I walked in & sang every stinkin' one they could think of without missing a beat! And the tantrums??? I think Chandler totally rivaled Jack for the most intense tantrums. Guess what? Tearing his backside up didn't work, either. Yeah. You'd think by now I'd learn not to even think this stuff. Sometimes it's like the boys turn into girls and drama/angst just blows me away. However, I am finding that just like with the tantrums and such that each stage is a learning thing with Chandler then pretty much easy to spot & handle with Brian. Thank God. :D

Thanks for posting such a great trip report!

It definitely made me look forward to my trip and it even helped me figure out where to find Jimminy Cricket for one of my friends!

Oh, and I love the shoes that you got at GF, they are so cute. :]

Glad you enjoyed the report. Make sure you come back from your trip with a report & pics for us!

Tell Jimminy I said hi & give him an extra hug for me.

Loooove my Birki's, too. They're sooooo comfy!

I still need to get back and finish reading your report, too. I've dug thru quite a bit of it but I have so much left to read...which is good because I look forward to it!

The dog boarding was awesome. Pricey (our total bill was $510 + the bath before we checked out) but truly an awesome experience. I wondered how that would affect our trip overall, if we'd find it a burden to go visit the dog. Honestly, it slowed us down a little which is a gift in itself and being able to visit our little furry girl was something we enjoyed doing. The boys asked to go see her every day at least once if not more. Seriously. I see where the journey might be an extra element of difficulty for y'all with big dogs. I've never had a big dog but I'm sure it has it's own set of quirks to handle. Maybe a small horse-trailer.... <---LOL! J/K! If you do take your dogs you get a price break on the 2nd one and you can board them together in the same villa. We had to walk past just about all the other villas to get to Riley's and there were a lot of multi-dog families boarded together. At least one of those was 2 pretty big pooches, too.

You can bet next and all subsequent trips will be delivered to y'all via the TRs. I don't think my brother would let me get by without posting the reports! LOL! While on our trips he calls & asks if I'm taking my notes. Then after I'm home every time I talk to him he asks where I'm at with my writing, have I edited my photos, when will I start posting, etc. It's so funny! LOL!

Oh yay! I love lazy couch Sundays! And I got to spend one with you, too! WooHOOO!!!

TJ! OMG! I've looked for him and asked for him every trip. I'm surprised I didn't scare the bejeezus outta him. When we approached I was fooling with my hair. I looked up & instantly recognized him. Without even thinking I started squealing and running! Talk about a freakish stalker woman! LOL! He took it in stride (thank God). I've always thought that if I randomly spotted a celeb that I really would be interested in meeting (like Jimmy Buffett or something) I'd keep my wits about me and intentionally not make a fuss so as to not make them feel uncomfortable in any way. Then I spotted TJ and acted like a complete flamin' moron. ((forehead smack)) I guess that's just another of those things that you never know how you'll act until you're in that moment. Now I know. Perhaps I should have my husband put me on a shorter leash. LOL!

Exactly my sentiments on EO. Although I admit we did see it twice, one of those times was to take a nap. My sentiments are a little stronger, actually, but still basically the same.

I haven't even started reading your holiday TR. It's like I'm saving it because I know once I start I'll be totally $ucked in and won't be able to stop reading. LOL! Now I can't wait to see what you had to say about EO! Twice?! Okay, I see the importance of napping and all but in EO??? You must not dream loose, strange things based upon what you're hearing when you are sleeping. I do so I try really hard not to fall asleep while the tv is on. Could you imagine the strange things the brain could conjure with EO??? ((shutters))

The POFQ gators are neat. My first impression when I saw them the first time was "meh" because they're just standing out on the walkway not part of any vingette or anything. They seemed sorta odd. But now if they weren't there it'd feel like the path needs something. Their randomness is they're key. In the French Quarter in New Orleans it's not uncommon for a random group of 3 or 4 fellows to parade themselves along not part of any event or anything. They just do it because it's something they enjoy. That's what these gators represent to me. They're the random treat. I'd love to see what angles you'd find to capture them in photos. You have such a way with capturing elements so that their purpose is brilliant and their existance is celebrated.

The preface. Ya know, when I typed it I had the thought that that was something I'd expect you to do more than me which, of course, made me laugh at the time.

Schools. I try not to be too brutal overall because the thought of being an educator in this day & age is just terrifying on many levels. Those folks have a tough job to say the very least because they're subjected to every nasty deformity society has to offer on a daily basis. I can only speak of the district we are in currently. If the people here from the superintendant down to the assistant principal at the middle school cared to educate children half as much as they do about maintaining their social circles via the students in their schools we'd not be homeschooling today. The bad influences are another subject entirely. When the time comes just follow your heart and you'll be on the right path when making decisions for your kiddos. You & Sarah will make incredible parents someday! How could you not?! They'll be little Disney afficianados from the get-go! LOL!

LaL. I agree. The idea of what they did is great but the execution could've been better. I look at the pics of that area from when I was a kid and the entry plaza was truly awe-inspiring in it's minimalistic approach. With all the large granite walls (they have a very heavy feel in size & material) in that space it takes away from the grandeure and lends a cluttered, disruptive feel that impacts the "story" when you initially enter Epcot. Agreed. The people who are all "destroy the tombstones" and so-on are the ones that irk me. They allow their opinions to close their minds to the point they don't give thought to the idea of what LaL was intended to do or consider that it's something someone else might like. They're just "I hate it & won't rest until it's erased". See, I realize you aren't a fan of LaL in the form that it exists but I also can tell that you have given it thought and, even tho you don't just looooove it, you appreciate what the thought behind LaL was. Does that make sense? I tend to be kinda confusing, I know. LOL!

In all our years/trips I've only encountered one Photopass photographer that I could tell was a photographer. We ended up having a long conversation with him about what he did. His goal was to continue with the Photopass thing for a set amount of time then open a studio of his own. He had a purpose in what he was doing which truly reflected in the pictures he took. The problem with not taking the card is that when Chandler has had his camera he never has it on an automatic setting. Every picture taken by a photopass photographer when Chandler handed off his camera was out of focus. The fact that not one photographer could look throught the view-finder and make a focus adjustment speaks volumes. Or am I just expecting too much? LOL!

Teenage drama. Read what I responded to Jen above. Don't*even*think*anything*negative or it will happen to you, too. LOL! Naw, the teenage thing is aggravating but it comes with the territory. I suppose it'll all be part of the memories when we get down the road. We'll look back at all the flying mood-swings and have a good laugh sorta like the terrible-twos. If only a pacifier and few moments of solitude would cure the teen angst episodes...life would be a cake walk with these guys! LOL!

Thanks for tuning in & sharing your thoughts. It means a lot to get good comments from others who write the bestest of TRs themselves. Not that I think I've ever seen you comment on someone's report with anything even remotely negative. Oooooh....kudos to your folks! They produced a person who knows the meaning of the Golden Rule..... Way to go!

That is a wonderful goal!

We have not washed them. Maybe that's why Chase's room smells? I'm glad he likes them though! I agree, Chase wears them with everything and they look good! Let me know how it goes if you wash them!

I'll PM ya by tomorrow. I can't stand the stench. I'm smell-sensitive. That's why my poor dog gets a bath at least once a week if not more often.

I just finished your trip report, it made me sad! I hope you get back here sooner than you think. We live here on the Space Coast and so many people are losing their jobs at the Space Center, it sucks. I hope you don't have to go back to work and that money tree starts growing for ya!

Take care and here's to a wonderful new year filled with joy! :)

I totally noticed that when I was reading your trip report! The one that grabbed me was the hoofstock barn on the train to Rafiki's. You know what they say...great minds and all... LOL!

Kelly, you're too sweet. I haven't written a trip report yet. :animwink: I'm behind due to the holidays... But I hope to get it up soon!!

Dang! I'm so bad with names. Well then there's 3 of us. I know I was looking at a report before I started posting mine that had a lot of the same shots/perspectives. I can't wait to see your report, too!

I hear ya. One of the hobby shops we frequent near Johnson Space Center, the shop owner was telling us that he was probably going to have to close once the mass layoffs start. With the cuts to the Orion it looks really bleak for the NASA gang which is so sad. It's almost like we came all this way for nothing, huh? My heart goes out to all those out there facing such uncertainty. I can't tell you the nights I lay awake unable to catch my breath from the gut-wrenching, overwhelming panic & fear. It's tough. My only comfort then was that we had the opportunity to prepare which I know so many others out there didn't have. Now I just remind myself that all we hafta have is each other. The car, the house, the stuff...those are just the extra fluff. Ya know? I'll continue to say prayers for the space folks & all those within those communities. I feel y'all. I really do.
