Other parts of Florida

I know that we all love going to Disney, but are there other cities or areas in Florida that you like going to? We used to visit Jupiter quite often and I always loved it there. I thought the area was so pretty and the beaches were really beautiful. (Being a mermaid, that's a plus) I also love St. Augustine. We stayed there last year right on the beach and it was so relaxing. I felt like I could walk on the beach all day and night. I'm interested in other areas that you all have been to and have enjoyed.

One of our other favorite places in Florida is the area between Dunedin and St. Pete Beach (Sand Key, Clearwater Beach, North Redington Beach, John's Pass, Madiera Beach, etc.) on the Gulf. We've been there about 4 or 5 times in the last 6 years. This past spring we also went up to Crystal River to snorkel with the Manatee's. If you ever get a chance to do this it is an experience of a lifetime!

I almost forgot.....If you like just hanging on the beach and relaxing with not a lot of people around, you should check out Caladesi Island which is just north of Dunedin. The Island is only accesible by boat, so there are no roads, no cars, NO NOISE! The water is calm and great for swimming and everytime we've been there we've seen Dolphin come about 15 feet away from the shore.

We like to visit a place called Tarpon Springs. It is a Greek community, known for its sea sponges. There are a lot of interesting little shops and great bakeries.

Another excellent spot just north of Palm Harbor. The sponge docks are fun.

Sorry, but I guess we are back to the silly talk. I also like the Gulf Coast side of FL. It is not as commercialized as the Atlantic Side. The water is also calmer. My favorite place is the St. Pete area, esp. Maderia Beach and St. John's Pass. If anyone gets over to the gulf side, make sure to at least drive by the Don Cesar Hotel. What an incredible resort.

Terribly sorry. Didn't mean to offend. I'll go find some soap.

Amelia Island in NE Florida is a wonderful place! Lots of condos & hotels on the beach, from The Ritz to Days Inn. It's not crowded (a lot of beach) no driving on the beach, lots of restaurants, and a quaint village for rainy days. Many golf courses, and horseback riding on the beach. 45 mins from Jacksonville, 25 mins from Jax airport. We had our family reunion there from 92-99 and really enjoyed it.

I myself live in Palm Harbor, which actually is but a few miles from Tarpon Springs. My parents live in Dunedin. I have good friends that live in South St. Pete, near the beach, which is beautiful. We have great beaches here: Clearwater, Dunedin, St. Pete, Treasure Island, Redington, Pass-A-Grille, Tierre-Verde, etc. There is a lot to do here too. St. Pete has a lot. The Florida International Museum, Salvador Dali Museum, St. Pete Pier, the new Baywalk area, and the new revitalized downtown area. Too much to mention. There is also a lot in Tampa too, but I am partial to Pinellas County. There are other great areas of Florida to see too. I only recently went to St. Augustine. When we went about 3 or 4 years ago it was really cold. The fort we toured was really neat. There is much to do.

4.5 hours from the chaos and confusion of WDW lies the Island of Marco...also known as Marco Island.

Just south of naples.....a mermaid's paradise...you can swim with the dolphins....wrestle an alligator....or ride the back of a manatee....;)

and someone like Ariel might even hook an unlucky man!

Anna Maria Island on the gulf side... very relaxing and quiet!
Saint Augustine is my family´s favorite from a long time ago (my dad even wanted me to study at Flagler College just so he could go visit me there!). I´ve been there in the summer and also during the winter when it is really cold and the Bridge of Lions is decorated very beautifully... :)

Last summer I went to Ormond beach by Daytona, we stayed at a hotel right on the ocean for a week. we went in the pool and on the beach everyday (except the days we went to WDW!)

Has anyone noticed that there is a lot of mini golfing around that area? Every other building is either a surf shop, a gift shop or a mini golf!

:D
