Sanibel Island and Amelia Island. Great getaways! Of course, the best would be Lake Buena Vista...or my place (just skid a little off World Drive, and you may find a cardboard box - just come right in and feel at home! :p

I live in a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale and I am not sure I could dislike a place more than here. However, not too far away on the West coast is Ft. Myers Beach which is like a whole new world. Very nice. St. Pete's good too.

Key West is a nice adult amusement park.

Just south of naples.....a mermaid's paradise...you can swim with the dolphins....wrestle an alligator....or ride the back of a manatee....;)

and someone like Ariel might even hook an unlucky man!

You must not know about the place that has fried frog legs. I havent been in a loooooooong time. Probably not even there any more. The frog legs were good though.

Islamorada. Little Gasparilla. Biscayne Bay -- esp sailing at night. Canoeing at Flamingo -- in the Everglades. Itchituckney River on an inner tube (but don't know how to spell it).

Key Biscayne for lots of sentimental reasons. But now all the Australian Pines are gone.

Ft. Meyers!!

I've been going to Ft. Meyers beach ever since I've been going to WDW. We have a camper there that we usually get every year, but this year we won't be going there...oh well.

There is this awesome restaurant there were you can have dinner and watch a newly released movie, like a movie theater/dinner in one. I saw Dragonfly and Bicentenial Man when they came out there. There is one on Marco Island, too, I think.

summer 2001, we took a trip to Disney, but before we went home, we stayed a few days at St. Pete's Beach...VERY nice! our hotel was right on the beach, and we had a fairly nice view of the gulf from our hotel room. everyone was so friendly and so willing to bend over backwards to help you in any way they could. the only thing is that it was a little risky to swim in the water cuz there were like schools of cow-nose rays (form of sting ray) and they would come right up to the water's edge, especially in the late evening. if you'd like to see some of my pics (including one of a cow-nose ray) you can visit my webshots album here: http://community.webshots.com/album/16391688tOMoFTkVuf

i would love to visit Englewood (i think there's supposed to be an 'a' in there somewhere) sometime! my dad's best friend lives there and he's been wanting us to come down and check out his house, but we never have gotten around to it. it sounds like it's a real nice place!

My vote for second best place is Florida is Sarasota County; we have a condo in Venice and I love Siesta Key, Lido Beach, St. Armands Circle. We renew our wedding vows in downtown Venice every February right before we drive up to Disney!!! I love the west coast, the white sand, the warm gulf water the quite!!:)

I totally agree. Since 1989, I've lived all over the Ft. Lauderdale area & I loathe it. The weather, the people, the crime, the traffic, the cost of living....there is not one redeeming quality to Broward County. Well, ok...some of the schools are good.

You havent been to Boca Raton, have you? Its got everything Ft. Lauderdale has, but the people are WAY different. So many people here are either 2 of 3 things: EXTREMELY egotistical, impatient, and showoffs. Right down the street, a neighbor has 10 cars (at least): a brand new 2003 bently, older mustang (too many mustangs here), a BMW, an SUV, a toyota (probably his only cheap ride), a Dodge Viper, Ferrari, Lamborghini, a lotus, not to mention his two motorcycles, and his boat.

and just down the street, a guy owns a built up 18-wheeler cab.. complete with DirecTV satellite dish. Ugh i hate it here!!!

Isn´t Boca famous for being a place for rich and retired people? (Or maybe I have watched The Nanny too much... :D )

When I was there, I only remember seeing long avenues with very tall palm trees and walled communities. It looked nice, but dead... :animwink:

Gotta love the "pink mall" in Boca. It's Mitzner Park isn't it? My mother-in-law lives in Lake Worth. I really don't like it because it is too far from the beach. We have to go to Ft. Lauderdale when we are there which is about 45 minutes away. That's why I love the West Coast, less than five minutes and you hit sand!!

Dizknee_Phreek,

We used to stay at the Sirata (used to be called El Sirata) about 25 years ago. Looked much different back then. The people who owned it were from here in Northern Kentucky, as am I. They have since passed away, and I have no idea if their kids own it or not. It was interesting seeing your pictures. That is a great area to spend some time at.

We had a family like that in my neighborhood in Miami. They had surveillance cameras all over the place. Probably paid for their cars with cash out of their trunk.

Is there any legitimate money down there?
