Osceola Interchange/Road Permits

ESPN is south. North goes right to the Epcot area. And according to that map, going back to that area will require going a bit out of the way now.

Yes, I've been noticing that. Looks like anyone trying to drive from DHS back to Pop, AoA, or CBR (plus whatever non-Disney properties are over that way) will have to take the long way around. Obviously that will all be alleviated by the Skyliner when it opens next year, but for the next few months it'll cause quite a headache for people who don't want to take Disney transportation from those resorts.

Looking over the diagrams and driving past all of this a few weeks back I was stumped. Is there no northbound entrance off of Victory?
The only thing south of Osceola on victory is ESPN

Does seem like they shoulkd have included a north bound victory exit to compliment the south bound entry through

My guess is that even without the Skyline, the number of vehicles making that movement will be trivial enough not to warrant such a ramp. Providing a ramp like that would necessitate either an additional traffic signal on Victory or an additional bridge. The concept shown a few posts back about adding the ramp to victory from the loop would seriously conflict with the movement between vehicles exiting ESPN who are going to Osceola eastbound.

When this opens, a trip from the DHS parking lot to Pop Century or one of the other resorts will be a simple drive at expressway speeds on Osceola Parkway west, to World Drive north, to Buena Vista east. The first time you'll have to slow down is at the end of the ramp to get to Buena Vista Dr east two traffic signals further away.

So the difference between getting there now and in the future is a traffic signal where you make a right turn, and a traffic signal where you go straight. Due to the changes in traffic volume caused by the expressway connections for the primary exiting movements out of DHS, it would be surprising if the total travel time is greater than it is now. It might even be faster.

True, and traffic on EBVD should be alot less. It never really made sense from day one for all the exit traffic to be via a single stoplight.

The op asked about a northbound entrance. The only time you would need a northbound entrance on Victory is if you are coming from ESPN. Northbound exit is another story entirely.

Without a Northbound exit onto Victory, guests going to the Skyliner resorts will have to go west on Osceola, north on World, east on Buena Vista, and then south on Victory... until the Skyliner is operational. Or be let out the bus exit. Or take a bus. Or sneak out the bus exit.

Drive through of the new entrance,

The only part that seems like it could be problematic is having the exit traffic cross the entrance traffic in order to exit.

Instead of having a 90 degree 4 way stop, they could have opted for a roundabout, as then if there was a collision it would be less severe.

All 4 WDW parks have areas where exit traffic has to cross entrance traffic. When necessary they usually control flow with a cast member directing traffic.

A 90º crossing seems to work just fine in the MK parking lot and has for nearly 50 years. It works so well that when they rebuilt that portion of the lot they chose to keep it.

The 90° crossing usually works because the arrival traffic route is crossing the departure travel route. So usually there are not very many conflicts because few people leave in the morning when everyone is arriving and few people arrive in the evening when everyone is leaving. The only expected times where this breaks down are when there are evening hard ticket events. At Magic Kingdom when this happens, a cast member will sometimes be stationed at the intersection to assist traffic flow.

Or they could direct exiting traffic in a giant counterclockwise circle around the entire parking area - though that would mean half the cars crossing the parking tram route.

You still get merges.

How about one giant, one-way, non-branching labyrinth?! No mergers, no cross-overs. Just get everyone to drive the entire area of the whole parking lot in a zigzagging conga line.
