And I say AGAIN.....if you are for a flag in a museum....and Disney is taking it out of their museum.....then why do you support them doing so?
Sounds like hypocrisy to me.

Well, Epcot isn't a Museum. That also was discussed ad nauseum earlier today. Epcot is a for-profit Theme Park with the mission of entertaining people.

I've addressed all your points yet you refuse to even broach the subject that your symbol of southern heritage was co-op'd by the white supremacy movement.

Why do I support removing the flag from display and putting it in a museum (and displayed carefully during living histories and reenactments)?

Very simply. Because its become a symbol of the white supremacy movement. Thats why.

I think because some people don't view Epcot as a museum, but as a theme park.

And the American Pavilion is a showcase of the "good" things about America.

There are no Nazi flags in the Germany pavilion even though it can be taught in a historical context. (Only good pretzels and beer :))

Interesting point. But the Union Jack in Britain can also be considered a flag of oppression based on the history of Britain.

Uh, this isnt a case of one lone wolf. Its an entire movement.

What movement? Even the racist murderer that killed the 9 people in the church (in the name of white supremacy) said he couldn't find anyone that agreed with him. He specifically said it was his complete isolation regarding his beliefs that prompted him to violence. Where are all these racist white supremacists? Where are all these killings in the name of white supremacy? There aren't any. They don't exist. It's tilting at windmills. You're talking about a "movement" that causes mass violence once every 20 years and who nobody supports and everybody wants incarcerated.

Yet you ignore the other INITIAL causes....and that is revisionist and censorship.

I'm done with you now. You really do waste my time because you don't read what I wrote and don't care to.
Enjoy your support of censorship and revision of history. That is ignorant and disgraceful.

Uh, that was the initial cause. They said so. Take it up with Alexander Stephens if you have a problem with what he said.

And yes, I have read what you wrote.

I've given you that courtesy and respectfully put forth a counter argument with evidence from that time period, said by the actual people who seceded stating why they seceded.

Again, thats not censorship. Thats not rewriting history. That is examining exactly what they said.

....... You seriously believe that there isn't a white supremacy movement in this world? Dear god almighty, you are obtuse.

So could the American flag itself to other nations abroad. Even people here dislike our flag. And if something is perfect, people will make something up about it to have something to be offended about.

While it really comes down to your interpretation of what Epcot is, Disney made the safe move and opted to appease the opposition by removing it. No harm no foul.

But if the greater society had a more versed background in our own country's history (not saying I have more or anything, just in general) we may become less sensitive and not over react to things, but at this rate, there is no going back.

And let's be frank ... for the vast majority (99.9999%) of people who have an affection for the Confederate flag over the past 50 years (at least), the flag represents their dislike and animosity towards northern states and northern people, not animosity towards black people or the promotion of slavery. It's a "The north sucks" flag, not a "slavery is awesome, I wish we had it again" flag.

Woah, wait a second... You don't honestly believe what you're saying, do you?

Oh, so you're saying that the U.S. Flag stands for bigotry? Wow.
Yes, it does. The Revolutionary War was about a vocal minority not wanting to pay for the murder of native peoples. Variants were used for decades to celebrate the continued slaughter of native peoples and the inhabitation of their ancestral homelands. The flag also continues to be heavily utilized by racist, bigoted and ultra-nationalist groups.

Hold on - Were you a fan before Dan Snyder bought the team?
I have been a fan since birth! Yes... the good old days. My husband is a "twin" of good old number 66 Joe Jacoby ( the old "hog" days). Yes.. I loved Joe Gibbs, but I didn't advocate him coming back... yep- I'm a fan, but none too happy with them now of course!:( ( and it's not because of their name... don't get me started on that one):cautious:

I grew up a Redskins fan. Kinda gave up on them once Dan Snyder bought the team. I was talking privately with some friends that cover the team regularly.... Snyder is not a pleasant guy.

Yep. Sorry to hijack this thread, but I like the Ravens now too ( used to be Baltimore Colts, well sorta). But they're not without controversy either. Heck... what NFL team or any other sports team for that matter is without issues these days? That's the very sad world we live in now ( case in point... this thread).:cautious::cry: Too many emotions... like Inside Out ( love that movie). Oops! I hijacked the thread again. Sorry.

No need to be sorry, the thread needs a good jacking. (We did reference Ariana Grande earlier....)

I think the NFL needs to clean up its act and the behavior of its athletes before they start examining what the teams are called.

I think that more people are upset with Daniel Snyder as an owner and a person than people are angry with the name of the team. IMO.

Correct me if im wrong, didn't EPCOT once have an original copy of the bill of rights in the American Experience? It was around the '05 era i just cant remember. It be nice if Disney could get a loan again.
