It would be nice if this country would teach the true history of America and not embellishments or revisionist history. History happened and cannot be changed by writing a story or removing a flag or changing a teams name etc. I feel bad for History teachers that have to sometimes teach fiction instead of actual history. And the PC movement needs to die. The castration of America needs to stop.

Agreed. We should be teaching exactly what these Confederate leaders and States said and show exactly how abhorrent it was.

Ironically, the same people who are fighting to keep the Confederate Flag flying are the same people who are revising the textbooks.

I don't.

I think that this is one of the first times that people will realize they had it on display.

Besides, society is changing. It's not meant for public display anymore. Museums? Sure. Living History? Sure.

I think @PhotoDave219 is absolutely correct. Its presence would be far more noticeable and noted upon than its absence.

And I apologize if I came across as abrupt. I'm just so heartily sick of listening to defense of the Confederate Flag, the Confederacy, "Southern Pride", and the rest of it. I mean, I live in Northern Ohio, for Pete's sake. I'm not sure when the Mason-Dixon was moved to run through this state, but somehow (even though I'm less than 20 miles south of Lake Erie), I ended up on the wrong (southern) side of it.

Yes
My great-grandmother's father and brother were skinned alive by European settlers because they were Native Americans. If anyone is interested in the details of the story, PM me and I will share it. History is full of tragedy and terrible inhumanity. I cringe when my son only hears the version of the story that portrays his ancestors as savages. I think the ultimate task is to use history to teach our children to learn from the sins of the past and not let inhumanity repeat itself.

Inhumanity is an oxymoron. Its always people doing things to other people... its not like the woodland creatures or space aliens suddenly decided to pick on people. Savage is such a subjective loaded term as is "native". What time period classifies one as a native and not just a migrant from somewhere else ? Before you get riled up, both my wife and I are descendants of American aboriginal peoples Apache and Cherokee respectively. We are not our ancestors and should not be judged by their actions or inaction only what we do or do not do.

Alas it's not a museum. It's an attraction meant to entertain.
Sorry, but it is a museum.

How is it being "mindful" of history to pretend it didn't happen? That's the opposite of mindfulness.
Removing a symbol from a theme park isn't pretending it didn't happen. A theme park isn't the right place to have these conversations.

I'll be incensed when it's removed from the history books and museums. EPCOT, despite being modeled after a museum, isn't really one, as long as Disney owns it and runs it for profit. It can certainly emulate a museum (and it should. A theme park dedicated to culture is a wonderful thing) but Disney does have to think about the message they are sending by leaving this symbol intact.
