For $33,000 lets hope that he gets several years in the pokey.

Hopefully, but probably not. He'll probably say he had a bad childhood, nobody loves him...someone in his past used to beat him regularly - you know how that works. It's not his fault he's a criminal, it's our society's fault. :brick:

I have a great punishment...strap him to a boat and make him ride It's a Small World for 8 hours a day...then move him to EPCOT, strap him into another boat, and make him ride It's a Small Mexico (or whatever it's called now that Donald is featured) for another four hours. Then once a week, put him in stocks with a sign over his head that reads "I'm a stupid criminal - I conned credit card information from Walt Disney World guests!" in the Magic Kingdom. That'd be hillarious! :ROFLOL:

Who would be trusting or stupid enough to give out their charge card numbers over the phone to a stranger calling their hotel room?:hammer:

Well, to answer your question, apparently I am stupid enough. I am one of the 45 individuals who were scammed, as well as one of the 33 who have been personally notified by the Orange County Sheriff's Department. I received a phone call yesterday morning.

I would be more than happy to provide everyone with a detailed and accurate account of what happened. Then, perhaps, you will discover that I was not the victim of personal stupidity; rather, I was the victim of a personal crime.

Sorry to hear that you were involved. It's rather harsh for people to blame the victim of a crime such as this.

The con artist has planned it all out so that people would not realize that it's a scam.

Perhaps your story could prevent something similar from happening to other people.

Are you saying you think there's no way to find out a phone number for a hotel unless you're a former CM with "inside" info?? Gee, if that were true, how would hotels ever get any business?? No one would ever be able to reach them by phone! :hammer:

Disney hotel phone numbers are not listed. You can, however, get the numbers from Central Reservations. I would venture to say, considering the way it was done, that he was probably a CM.

Do enough digging on this website, you'll probably come up with most of the numbers.

Exactly! It doesn't take a criminal mastermind to find out a phone number for a business. Nor does it take a "inside" (current or former) person. :p

My DW was also scammed by this guy. I posted earlier this week on another thread that I got a call from the Sherrif, we've filed a police report and need to do some other paperwork. Someone else also posted they got scammed for $5000 ours was $4800, I think the $33,000 is low but they did catch him.

You SHOULD tell us a detailed account of your story. It could help others from getting scammed.

Sorry that it happend to you and the others but I am really glad they caught that creep!

To many people are willing to believe anything they hear.
If its to good to be true, its not.

It would be nice to see the detailed account. I cant imagine it changing he fact that some people will accept anything as truth.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I'd be very interested in hearing the details from those on this thread who were among those scammed.

I think the problem with those that were victims sharing what happened to them here on the boards is that *some* people on here will say it's their fault. If I were to share a personal experience just to have someone say, in effect, that I probably deserved it for being so *insert negative remark here*, then I would feel even worse.

I'm really sorry this happened to both of you.

They call them "Conmen" for a reason. They run confidence games. They build up a mark with perfectly legitimate sounding information and questions to the point where the less-credible 'con' becomes believable because their lead-up has developed confidence in them. It's nothing new in the world and some very intelligent and highly cynical people have been taken in for millions of dollars. It should be no surprise that a small-timer like this could scam into the thousands.

Glad he's caught. I thought someone said the guy would listen in on tourists checkin in to get the information as far as room number and stuff. But either way, good to hear he wont be getting away with any of this anymore.

I'm not saying that at all. I was saying though that he would know his way around the resorts and the room phone numbers. I have stayed at Disney several times but we never use the resort room phone, we use our cell phones. Since this happened at several resorts he would have to know the first part of the room phone numbers for all of those resorts. Don't you think? Just a guess.

agree, but it's not like anyone is trying to coax them into telling their story. Chickapin Chick agreed to share what happened to her, and a few of us have taken her up on it and told her that, yes, we're interested. Yet, strangely, she hasn't responded. Perhaps she's had a change in heart, which is fine. But she brought it up, not any of us.

If I were a scam artist bilking people for as much as this guy did, I would think it would be worth my time to scope out the hotels and find out their room-numbering conventions. How tough could that possibly be? Have you never called a hotel and simply asked the front desk to put you through to a specific room number? You make it sound as though getting that information would require some inside information or some deep knowledge as to the lay of the land. Why would it?

Nope, Tigfan, my heart remains unchanged. (I've had to go to work.) :)

And you are absolutely correct - I volunteered to share my story, and I fully intend to. Everyone has been wonderfully responsive and supportive; I assure you it has been a coax-free zone.

I just want everyone to know that I am not a troll, and that I will post my response as soon as my real-world responsibilities are taken care of.
