Spinnin' Sombreros Square Dance
Located close to Fuente del Oro, and utilizing the same trackless technology as Luigi's Rollicking' Roadsters, this family ride will seat guests in giant sombrero hats that will glide around the "dance floor" in a variety of intimate and fun formations. Each ride will be different, so kids will want to ride over and over again. Calling the dances and cracking jokes from a perch above the floor will be an all new AA character named Pecos Pete.

Bonus: Buzz Lighyear Laser Blast makes way for Rocket Raccoon's Target Time, with Rocket and some of his other Guardians pals.

Professor Wonder's Gallery at Thunder Mesa

1524873281140.png

Not everyone knows that figment was originally developed for Discovery Bay, an expansion of Disneyland's Frontierland that would include a show where Professor Marvel showed off his incredible inventions and discoveries with the help of one of his discoveries, a tiny dragon.

This show will be updated and placed in Thunder Mesa with the set up that Professor Wonder (renamed to avoid confusion with the Avengers) was hired to develop creative new mining tools for Thunder Mountain by Henry Ravenswood, but stayed around to create his own unique invention unrelated to mining after Henry's untimely death.

Professor Wonder and Spark the Green Dragon will teach guests about the possibilities they can discover and create with their imagination while showing off incredible contraptions (with a distinctly less steam punk look then originally intended so as not to clash with Discoveryland), exemplifying the spirit of possibility that the frontier was all about.

BONUS

The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction from Tokyo will be ported here with a shooter ride element added in where guest must protect their sub from attacking sea beasts with a stun gun.

Relic Riders

OSP#8 .jpg

Coming to Frontierland is an adventure filled shooter ride where guests will help S.E.A. member Christopher Haywood, rival of Henry Ravenswood, as he goes around collecting magical artifacts for protection.
After his... altercation with Mr. Ravenswood over the greed and blatant ignoring of the magic going on in his mines he decided set up a camp in Thunder Mesa as a way to observe and protect the town from anything Ravenswood Mine unearths.
This ride will have guests in sets of 4 in an EMV style jeep following Christopher as he finds the artifacts while using the shooter stun guns to protect our S.E.A. friend from the dangers around him, ranging from snakes to ancient spirits.

Bonus: Buzz Lightyear will be replaced with a steampunk shooter where you have to shoot clock robots with electricity to power them down and get out safely.

CHALLENGE 8
CRITIQUES

Before we review the Challenge #8 Proposals, we would like to say how impressed we are with everyone's proposals! They are all really great!

Every single proposal was unique in their own way, but three really stood out to us.

Also, the detail category has been renamed to “The Big Picture” due to the confusion over the “Detail” category and also that name fits what we want more. Also, please note that while those categories have factors in the medals, the main thing we choose is the concept.

Good luck to you all and we cannot wait to see what you all come up with next!

@DisneyFan18 with “Alameda Slim’s Roundup”

Disneylover152: The Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree style attraction I heard is a really fun one, and I will be riding it for myself this weekend :). I think a Frontierland version of this attraction is both beneficial to the Disneyland Paris resort, and to Frontierland. The ride fits a great IP attraction into the land, which is hard to do in Frontierland. I also love how you gave the ride a really fun and interesting, yet simple enough, story. It really spices the ride up as most of these whip rides (Junkyard Jamboree, Swirling Saucers, Woody’s Roundup) don’t have a story and its just a fun ride. This is a really great proposal, but I don’t see how this fits the theme of Thunder Mesa. It isn’t clear how it would be able to, and you haven’t mentioned it. IP attractions are harder to fit into the story of this land. Also, even though the Alien Swirling Saucers is rumored to come to the park nextdoor, if Disney can have multiple Dumbo style attractions in one park, they can have multiple whip rides in one park! But besides that, this is a great attraction seems like really fun with an interesting story! Great work!

DisneyForever: Okay, okay. Interesting choice you’ve got here. Home on the Range fits in Frontierland, and it brings some cartoon-ish elements to Disneyland Paris’ Frontierland. This attraction seems like a “flashback” for Home on the Range. Using a villain as a main character seems both exciting, yet bringing a sense of evil to the ride. Also, it’s beautiful how you included the Thunder Mesa story, as it ties in a not-so-well-done movie to a very greatly decorated land!! I think it’s so fun that you based a ride around just one song, but it could potentially turn into something great! Although this isn’t a coaster, it still sounds fun and has some potential to be popular. Giving Frontierland a whip ride sounds cool, it adds something new and a first to Disneyland Paris (if I’m not mistaken)!! I just don’t know if it would really add to the Thunder Mesa story. Home on the Range was something that had a little bit of everything, but Frontierland has one set vision. Overall, I think this proposal is great, and would be fun to actually have!! Great job!!

Bonus: Ah, SEA. We think it would be a great idea to see SEA come into Discoveryland, and collecting DNA sounds fun. Sounds like a great theme to a shooter ride! GO SEA! +1.

@FireMountain with “Cowboy Run”

Disneylover152: What an interesting attraction! I’m so happy that this classic attraction from Coney Island is finding its way into a Disney Park. The New-Yorker in me is cheering! This seems like a really funny and exciting attraction to be added and the story seems interesting. I like the idea of a bandit chase, and it really fits this style attraction. The bandits layer final scene seems like a cool finale with some amazing practical effects. I can really picture this attraction in Frontierland, and it would definitely alleviate the waits of Phantom Manor and Big Thunder Mountain! Overall it's a great attraction with an interesting and funny story! And it fits the theme of Thunder Mesa! Would love to see this in Frontierland so I can ride.

DisneyForever: I think it would be fun, hilarious, and thrilling to get on the back of an animatronic horse and ride your way through caverns! In the photo, the type of ride seems boring, but, going through caverns sounds great! The finale seems like something that would make the ride popular, I can imagine horses going back and forth fighting the bandits. I wish I knew a little more about the attraction, but this will do. I can definitely see this style ride come into the park and Frontierland specifically. It’s nice to see this type of ride from Coney Island come to Frontierland and, overall, you’ve got a great post!! All that’s missing is a few more details but I would definitely want to ride this. Nice job!!

Bonus: It’s always great to see Dreamfinder and Figment in a new style ride. Bringing them into a shooter ride and having them shoot “bad” ideas seems like a very fun and exciting ride!! +1.

Disneylover152: Wow! What a great attraction! I love the idea of bringing natural disasters to Frontierland, and its something that we haven’t really seen. This seems like a Disneyland Paris version of the Jungle Cruise, which is something that the park doesn’t have. This attraction seems exciting, and as mentioned earlier, I love the idea of natural disasters in Frontierland. It just fits, and its something that I’m a little surprised hasn’t been in Frontierland before. Also, with Catastrophe Canyon going away, this seems like a perfect way to recycle the land. I like the idea of having a live skipper type guide. This classic “tour gone wrong” is a great addition to Frontierland and I would love to ride! Great work!

DisneyForever: There are a lot of things exclusive to Disneyland Paris but this seems like something that I can excuse. Bringing a live “driver” to Frontierland is great, seeing as though this type of ride is sparse, having only Jungle Cruise and Kilimanjaro Safaris. It also makes the live driver thing not with animals only. It’s also nice to see they’ll be in a dark ride, where the other two driver rides are all outside. I can imagine a lot of action, as that’s what goes on in the Wild West. Flash floods and storms make it even better… or worse. Either way, it’s very thrilling and exciting. I’d like to see some more details, this sounds like a really fun ride. Overall, I think you’ve got a very nice proposal that adds kid-friendly thrill versus Phantom Manor, but also adds something new to Disneyland Paris. Keep up the great work!!

Bonus: Bringing back Timekeepers back but as a shooter ride is both nostalgic yet new. Hunting down history threats sounds amazing!! +1.

@michmousefan with “Spinning Sombrero’s Square Dance”

Disneylover152: Wow! This sounds like a very… interesting addition to Frontierland. Very interesting, and um… inventive. LOL! I actually don’t mind the idea of Mexican influence in a Frontierland, but I’m just not sure how giant sombreros dancing fits the theme of realistic Frontierland and Thunder Mesa. But as an original attraction, this would be a fun, entertaining ride. I love the character of Pecos Pete! It sure to be very entertaining listening to him while you ride the ride. Also, he would make some great queue entertainment like Mr. Potato Head. I also love the idea of randomization. And the trackless ride system has so much potential which you use. A great implementation of this attraction in the resort, all though I’m not sure if it fits the theme of Frontierland… Great work anyway!

DisneyForever: Oh my goodness!! Huge sombreros and dancing. I literally laughed so hard when I read this. It does the job of adding something to Frontierland, something very UNIQUE. Adding a new character was unexpected, it would be fun to see if he becomes a greater character. Gliding around the dance floor and having different experiences, would we be inside or out? Being a joke-lover I would love to see this attraction come to life, bringing jokes and all. There’s just one tiny thing, it doesn’t scream Frontierland or Thunder Mesa. Or, a ghost has possessed a sombrero and duplicated, and we are all now experiencing them dance. Haha!! A detailed proposal, I think that’s about as much detail as you can get out of this. Using the Luigi’s Rollicking’ Roadsters style is a great idea! Keep it up.

Bonus: Although a little upset at Guardians of the Galaxy taking over Tower of Terror, this ride sounds very fun and interesting. Great!! +1.

@Pionmycake with “Professor Wonder's Gallery at Thunder Mesa”

Disneylover152: Figment has made its way into the American West. I was wondering how you were going to implement Figment into Frontierland, and you have in a wonderful way! This style attraction will be a great, and I appreciate the changes you made to bring this ride into Frontierland. The theme fits Thunder Mesa and Professor Wonder seems like a wonderful original IP character. The theme of Imagination is present, but with a 1800s twist. This is a great experience connecting the theme of the land with the ride and I would love to see this make its way into a Disney Theme Park. And while not being an original attraction, its still fun and unique by the Thunder Mesa story. Great work!

DisneyForever: There is a lot of detail, greatness, and confusion in this proposal. First of all, it seems like a great idea to bring a “Figment” style character to Disneyland Paris and Frontierland but, does it fit? I love the idea of tying this in with Thunder Mesa and Henry Ravenswood, and having everything go in time. It just skimmed the bottom of the bag with adding mining inventions, as if that was not there, I couldn’t see this in Frontierland. Applause for not clashing with steam-punk Discoveryland, and for making an imagine and mindful character become a Wild West mining man. This is a very interesting thing, definitely a first for Frontierland. You also took precautions changing Professor’s name for confusion purposes. Overall, after a very detailed proposal, you’ve done a great job!!

Bonus: Bringing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea from Tokyo would be great as a shooter ride. Protecting submarines and shooting beasts sounds great!! +1

@pixie_princess with “Relic Racers”

Disneylover152: Wow, SEA is making its way into the past. Have they created a time machine?!?! LOL. This attraction has an interesting, story with a lot of depth. There’s a rivalry in Frontierland with two guys and its a shooting ride where you are protecting the town? This seems like a great attraction. I love the theme of you discovering artifacts like snakes and spirits. It feels a little like an Adventureland style attraction, but overall this is a fun experience! It still does fit the theme of Frontierland. I really enjoy reading this and would like to know more in separately. Great work!

DisneyForever: Ah, we’ve got SEA into the American West now. This proposal sounds so interesting, and using the EMV jeeps, it reminds me of Animal Kingdom’s Dinosaur. You also gave the land and Thunder Mesa a rivalry, Haywood and Ravenswood. If I read this right, we’d also have stun guns like Buzz Lightyear? That would be great, seeing as though we’ve never seen something like this outside of Tomorrowland and Discoveryland. I think it would be fun finding artifacts and going on a treacherous journey through mines. I also spotted the little hint of ancient spirits. That would be a great new thing, including spirits brings both a sense of Phantom Manor and something that could be fresh and new!! There is clearly a lot of story, to this, and you’ve clearly spent a ton of time on this!! Great proposal, I can’t wait to see what else you have planned for us!!

Bonus: Tying in steampunk with shooter rides is a great idea, and shooting clock robots, sounds like it’ll be a fun time. +1

Challenge 8 Results!
There were an absolute ton of quality proposals, making it really hard trying to select and rank the best.

A great idea alone is worth a lot in One Sentence Competition. So is a well-presented proposal. Our top finishers boasted a combo of each, and in such a crowded field many medal-worthy entries are sadly going unrewarded.

Tokyo Disneyland

NsCBwjV9fXEjMWff4Grl60wAcsYgPSjGeMxcChchE4r1jI_qXptazD9dIGsqGD1tOtcnD-bDM3_AUUwT2U_-kJNQbY3Sig02wduTivo0GVQSGTRssCTkLMnIelQHG4LVZI-ho6Ap

Welcome to Tokyo Disneyland! The first international theme park Disney created. This park takes you out of Tokyo and brings you into african jungles, caribbean islands, the wild west, a land home to Critters, Mickey’s town, a Medieval courtyard, and the future! It is widely considered the best Magic Kingdom style park with its impressive rides such as Pooh’s Hunny Hunt, the updated Jungle Cruise, Monster’s Inc. Ride & Go Seek, and more!

-Background Information-
Festivals are a big thing for EPCOT, but not so big for parks internationally. The first ever festival was the International Food & Wine Festival back in 1995. Ever since, we’ve seen more and more festivals, such as The International Flower & Garden Festival and the newest International Festival of the Arts. Then, there’s Pixar Fest. A new festival found in Disneyland. It’s opening in time for Pixar Pier, accompanying The Incredicoaster.

-Challenge-
Create a new festival (like Pixar Fest or any festival at Epcot) to be added to the park. It must host new experiences, and never been seen before at a Disney Park. Have a blast and make sure to host some IPs and some Festival-specific merchandise!

-Rules-
You may use between 1 and 3 sentences and up to 1 image. The deadline is Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 8:59pm EST. The amount of time is getting shorter! Critiques will come following at 11pm EST.

-Bonus-
Create a new attraction to be added in time for this festival. Such as how The Incredicoaster is opening for Pixar Fest. This attraction can be anything from a new show to a new parade to a brand new ride!

-Tips-
K.I.S.S. – Keep it simple, silly. Try not to complicate or overthink things too much. It’s a simple, casual competition – there are no eliminations. Propose as you please!

-Judging Criteria-
Creativity- Is it creative?
“The Big Picture”- Do you make the most of your sentences allotted? Do I understand what your submission is about? Do you mention the beginning and end of the ride?
Realism- Is it (generally) realistic? Is it something Disney will/could build? Are there patents related to your submission?
Theme- Does it fit thematically? Does it fit visually?
Originality- Is it original?
Effort- Is effort shown?

-Reminders-
This prompt will be a points prompt. As a reminder, everyone who submits something as well as follows the rules will get 1 point. 3 awards are given for each challenge. The three awards are Bronze (+1 points), Silver (+2 points), and Gold (+3 points). Everyone who submits gets a point, but Bronze, Silver, and Gold winners get additional points.

Reminder that prompts are due at 8:59pm EST. Reviews come at 11pm EST with the next prompt coming at Midnight EST.

IP stands for Intellectual Property.

Follow the rules, posted here!

Good luck everyone! If you have questions, don’t be afraid to ask. Now go imagineer!

Walt Disney's World Expo

BE41AEAD-1F24-410D-9A3B-B335BB25F688.jpeg

In 2025, Japan will host the World Expo, and Tokyo Disneyland will be celebrating a brand new festival that year, in honor of Walt Disney participation at the New York’s World Fair in 1964; join Mickey & his friends at Walt Disney’s World Expo from May 3 - November 3, 2025!

In this unique festival, the cultures around the world will be celebrated throughout the park as part of Walt Disney’s World Expo, for example: you’ll be able to find topiaries inspired by technology and multiculturalism; limited timed M&Gs like Miguel in Adventureland, and Mary Poppins in Fantasyland; exclusive food offerings inspired by Disney Movies around the world, like Coco, Moana, and Mulan.

However, the stars of the festival are It’s a Small World Parade, whose floats will have a mix of Mary Blair figures showcasing different countries and the Disney characters that belong to those countries like Elsa, and Pinocchio; and A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, an Expo located throughout all of Tomorrowland, themed around the design of a future society for our lives to match Yumeshima World Expo’s theme!

Bonus:
The Showbase will be replaced by Big Hero 6: Technology Showcase a brand new experience designed to be a spiritual successor of Carousel of Progress; it will open on May 3, 2025!

Can you clarify what you mean by a festival, because food & wine and flower & garden are pretty different than Pixar Fest which is more similar to something like, the year of a million dreams or the happiest celebration on earth.

We mean something more along the lines of Pixar Fest (with a higher budget of course). But it can AND should include elements like topiaries and food like the Food & Wine Festival and Flower and Garden Festival.
