Hey Howdy Hey!

As promised, @DisneyForever and I will be changing the competition a little for future improvement. This update will bring you reviews quicker, as well as make the competition more organized. We are continuing to work this plan to make it the best that it can be.

We do know that the updated plan will begin with Prompt #3.

To make way for this Competition Update, Prompt #2 (this current prompt) will be due 3 hours earlier. It is now due Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 8:59PM EST.

If this is an issue for anyone, please let us know!

Thanks so much for allowing us to adjust,
@Disneylover152 and @DisneyForever

I love the idea, but what if I were to make a major edit after you make the review?

Memory Lane
OSP#2.jpg

Hollywoodland gets a makeover transformation to MEMORY LANE as a fun and family friendly trip to the cartoon age of old.

First up, Mike and Sully to the Rescue gets moved to Pixar Pier and in it's place will be Mickey Through the Ages; a dark ride following Mickey through a highlight reel of all his starring roles, including cameos from the rest of the fab five (and a quick look at the rabbit that came before the mouse)

Frozen-Live at the Hyperion will be replaced with a live musical stage adaption of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; being the first full length animated movie it deserves some more recognition in the parks.

Taking place of the Frozen sing along building and Stage 17 will be Oh What a Knight; a roller coaster based of the Oswald short of the same name where guests will help Oswald rescue Ortensia from the evil Pete.

Lastly, there will be a table service diner called The Cartoon Cafe placed where Disney Jr. Live on Stage is currently, that will have simple old school diner food and characters such as Oswald, Ortensia, Classic Mickey and Minnie and occationally some other older cartoon guests will join.

Bonus: There will be "Define Dancing" A WALL-E themed nighttime dance party held in Pixar Pier.

This was a tough one for me because I've never been to DCA; hopefully it turned out OK despite that. It was also really hard to get each attraction down to one sentence of explanation so I could fit into the 5 sentence limit.

Golden Hollywood - A celebration of the idealised Hollywood Heyday
1522223271246.png

  1. Hollywood Dash (Old Muppets Area) - Board your vintage 1940s Cadillac to take a trip through 1940s Hollywood in this family coaster.
  2. Great Movie Ride (Stage 17 + Monsters Inc) - Visit a 'hot set' before being whisked into the world of movies through the magic of Hollywood before arriving at a star studded movie premiere, where you're the main attraction.
  3. Hooray for Hollywood (Frozen) - See your favourite musical numbers as performed by your favourite Disney characters (e.g. Goofy as Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain).
  4. Hyperion Avenue Studio (Playhouse Disney + Disney Animation Studio) - modelled after the Disney studio that operated between 1926-1940, this area features a number of attractions, including Goofy About Movies (a dark ride in the style of the classic Goofy short films where Goofy takes you literally into the movie making process, from storyboarding to screening) and Chez Mickey, a new character dining experience where each room is themed after a famous Mickey short film (includes Steamboat Willie, Brave Little Tailor, Sorcerer's Apprentice).
  5. Griffith Park - named for the park that inspired the creation of Disneyland, this green space is home to a bandstand where you can listen to live music and maybe even spot an aspiring starlet or struggling screenwriter (Hollywood Citizens).
The Bonus - Dia de los Muertos Celebration!
Join the cast of Coco near the Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill to dance to Latin House and Techno Mariachi, including a chance to get your face painted with glow in the dark face paint to look like a Calaca.

CHALLENGE 2
CRITIQUES

Before we review the Challenge #2 Proposals, we would like to say how impressed we are with everyone's proposals! They are all really great!

Every single proposal was unique in their own way, but remember, only three really stood out to us.

Good luck to you all and we cannot wait to see what you all come up with next!

@AceAstro 's The Muppets Take Hollywood
Disneylover152: The Muppets are back! Love the return of Muppet Vision 3D. I wish it was still here in DCA, as that theatre sits vacant. I like that the Hyperion Theatre will get a true facade, and not that ugly backlot building. And bringing the telethon from the film to their is something sure to have fans lined up. And an E-ticket of the The Great Muppet Movie Ride, great idea as well as the new PizzeRizzo. My only issue with this land is that its not original. Everything here is based on something already built or was once in development. Also, what happened to Hollywood Boulevard? The Animation Studio is still there? Disney Junior? The theme of the Backlot sure is grand, but the theme doesn’t carry onto Hollywood Boulevard. You forgot about that section of the park. But the entire project is realistic and creative with lots of detail. Great submission!

DisneyForever: You are really infusing Muppets into the parks, which is both a good and bad thing! From MuppetVision 3D to The Great Muppet Movie Ride, I could see this totally happening. My only concern is that, none of this is original. It’s either existing somewhere else, or is on the attractions shelf. I agree with @Disneylover152, Hyperion Theatre would get a true facade. To me, this feels like half a land, and I’ll tell you how. There are rides, and a restaurant, but the details make it seem like (at least for me) Muppets are just plastered onto areas, excluding the Theatre. Overall, this was a very well-written proposal.

Bonus: The prompt was to add a nighttime experience to the to DCA for Pixar Fest for the young adults. This is something for Pixar Fest, but not a nighttime experience for young adults. Next time please follow the prompt. No points.

@DisneyFan18 's Animation Courtyard
Disneylover152: Love the “Disney Parks Blog” style announcement. Very cute. Your map is great to, but lacking a little detail. Also, I love this idea. The picture would be very cool to bring to life. This Animation Courtyard would breath much needed life into this land. The Mickey’s House of Mouse restaurant would bring a great character breakfast to the resort and this park, since Ariel’s Grotto just recently closed and bringing a clone of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is sure to be a fan favorite. The Wreck it Ralph coaster is sure to be a guest favorite with such an original story, and bringing One Man’s Dream will definitely get the locals on board. The Coco musical is a little redundant with Pixar Pier and Cars Land, but nevertheless I’m never against more Coco in the parks. This is a very creative project with so much detail. With Mickey’s Toontown open across the way, it seems a little redundant which might push the realistic of Disney building this down, but the Hollywood movie theme is surely there. Amazing job!

DisneyForever: My favorite part about this proposal, other than the attractions, is the way you began it. It’s like something that Disney would write, and the photo looks like something they would put out, too. There are just so many details in this proposal, and I love my details! Bringing One Man’s Dream back would be perfect for the Disneyland Resort. I love how you also included a map, which nobody has done before this episode. Lastly, I really like how you incorporated something that isn’t even open yet (Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway), and the post is set in a later date. There are many Pixar things in this land, which make me feel that this is more of Pixar Courtyard. Also, we already have Cars Land, and soon to have Pixar Pier, so this sort of feels like we are changing the park into Disney Pixar Adventure, which could be alright. Overall, I think that this area could be a perfect fit in the park, seeing as though it is shifting from the whole “California” theme!

Bonus: I would love a frat party with the Monster’s Inc. gang! Very cute, very Disney.

@FireMountain 's Studio Park
Disneylover152: The studio theme is my favorite part of Hollywoodland. I love the difference between Buena Vista Street, the golden age of Hollywood and Hollywoodland, the celebration of the movies. You keep that part of what I love. While I know most people aren’t a fan of studio style parks, and Disney seems to be guiding away from that as well, I love them. Catastrophe Canyon is back inside a soundstage, and filming your own movie sounds like a great original addition. I love the tram tour roller coaster, as it brings such a different feel to the classic tram tours of Hollywood. The Movie Hall Auditorium sounds like a more general version of The Music of Pixar Live, which everyone enjoyed, and the Great Movie Ride will sure bring all Disney fans flocking to this land. The creativity and effort is there. While a lot of stuff is based off of previous experiences at Hollywood Studios, they all have an original aspect, not to mention the original rides there too! Great work!

DisneyForever: Everyone get out of the way! Coming through to Hot Set Studios. That is my favorite part of this proposal, making your own movie! This land seems like a land that could really set the park to a higher rating. The Great Movie Ride and Tram Trouble sound like things that would grab a lot of people’s attention, especially since TGMR just closed a few months ago. This is a very original proposal, despite some of it being from Hollywood Studios back then. I think the Auditorium could attract guests and, overall, I could see people actually going and riding the rides here. It’s neat, fun, and very thought out.

Bonus: Battle of the Bands with Monster’s Inc. Very original. +1.

@D Hindley 's Hollywoodland
Disneylover152: The theme of Hollywoodland is debated among Disney fans. Some believe its a recreation of the golden age of Hollywood, other believe its a studio backlot showing you the movie magic of Hollywood. The truth is, it’s the second one. There is nothing 1930s about Hollywoodland besides the Red Car Trolley, BUT THAT’S A DIFFERENT TOPIC! Your proposal beautifully combines these two debating themes. It has the Golden Age of Hollywood represented with the streetmosphere and the 1940s facades, but it also is a movie studio representing the movie magic of Hollywood with stunt show and Behop Blast! Love that name. It’s also a Hollywood with no IP! Great original thinking, but I feel like at least one IP is necessary in a Hollywood themed land, but it’s also the theme of the competition you are going with, so that won’t affect you as much. But your submission is creative and original. It fits the theme of DCA really well, and it seems like something Disney world build. Great detail and effort, it shows.

DisneyForever: Ahh, the 1940s is always a fun time period to create a land out of. I like the idea of having the Citizens of Hollywood roaming around, a technique that I’m most familiar about at Hollywood Studios. I’d love to see Beebop Blast come to fruition, I would totally ride that! Villa Vortex also seems like an interesting proposal, and bringing the Mystic Manor technology over to California seems like a good idea. I wonder if in that area it would be really hilly. Would Disney do that? The eating and retail places sound great, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of these places came to another park, because just changing a few things it could fit anywhere in a Disney park. This seems like a nice overlay of Hollywoodland, but I’d like to see a new name. Overall, I could really see this land coming to DCA sometime in the future!

Bonus: Everyone loves a fiesta. Everyone loves Coco. Great overlay to the Wine Country Trattoria. +1.

@spacemt354 's LA Toontown
Disneylover152: The true one sentence pitch. Moving Toontown over to DCA is a great idea, especially with how Disneyland is limited on expansion and DCA is limited on children's rides (especially with no more Bugs Land). A modern version of those fan-favorite Disney rides, and the soon to be a fan favorite, is greatly appreciated. The theme of Hollywoodland is the movies, so Toontown fits the theme of that land, in a creative way. While the entire submission is not original, your effort is shown in your one sentence pitch, and it seems like something Disney would build, especially with the value it would have for them.

DisneyForever: A true one sentence only proposal that is simple, yet fits. I couldn’t really envision Toontown moving to DCA, it justs seems like something Disneyland would keep for itself. While I enjoy the addition of Runaway Railway, I think it could fit somewhere else, as it doesn’t really fit in with the cartoony Toontown. All in all, this is a true one sentence proposal with something that could fit into DCA with it all turning into movies and animation.

Bonus: No bonus?
