PRACTICE PROMPT

While we anxiously await New Year, counting down the days, hours and nanoseconds for the ball to drop and for the carriage to transform back into a delicious pumpkin, how about we play some fun party games to pass the time. Specifically, how about a Practice Prompt? With the holiday theme for this episode of One Sentence Competition, let’s focus on the countdown itself as we celebrate –

NEW YEAR’S EVE
Small-Wrld-Fireworks0008A.jpg

Since all 12 official challenges will be carrying us to all 12 Disney parks, one-by-one, let’s make this initial practice challenge Player's Choice. That’s right, pick any Disney park!

-Challenge-
For your chosen park, create a New Year’s Eve hard ticket event. How will your park celebrate the countdown to midnight? How will you make this a special, one-of-a-kind event for your guests? An event unlike any your park has seen before! And will there be champagne? :hungry:

-Rules-
You may use between 1 and 3 sentences and up to 1 image. The deadline is Sunday, December 31st at noon EST. Look for critiques before midnight, followed by Challenge 1.

-Tips-
K.I.S.S. – Keep it simple, silly. Try not to complicate or overthink things too much. It’s a simple, casual competition – there are no eliminations. Propose as you please!

-Judging Criteria-
Is it creative?
Is it (generally) realistic?
Does it fit thematically/visually?

Remember, this is just a Practice Prompt, so no permanent points and no pressure. This is simply a fun thing to occupy us all for the remainder of 2017.

Good luck everyone! If you have questions, don’t be afraid to ask. Now go create!

ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve
from Disney's Hollywood Studios
Disney-Movie-Magic-Paul.jpg

For decades, the Disney-owned ABC network has broadcast the New Year's Rockin' Eve celebration from Times Square in New York City, with most recent years hosted by Ryan Seacrest. Nevertheless, while New York City is the mecca for all things New Years, the New Years shows on the other networks seem to all mesh together nowadays, all taking place in the same location and with the same fluff leading up to the ball dropping.

Yet to ring in 2019, ABC's New Years Eve show will, to stand out from the competition, use Disney's Hollywood Studios as a 2nd location in their show, switching back and forth from the NYC portions to the DHS portions, with Disney stage shows, musical numbers, projection shows at the Chinese Theater, and more before the big midnight finale with a dazzling display of pyrotechnics in the sky to welcome the New Year!

Every New Year's Eve (well, every night from 12/30-1/2), join the glitz and the glamour of an exciting, jazz filled, swanky NYE party (think Great Gatsby) with a fabulous 1920s Hollywood style hosted by star of the Black and white, silent film era, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit culminating in an exciting projection/firework show done simultaneously on the Chinese theater and the tower of terror to ring in the new year.

Activities, games, and dance parties focused on children and family are centered mostly around the HUB in front of the Chinese Theater and feature Oswald and Ortensia out playing with the kids as well as special appearances by Mickey and friends in their best old Hollywood party attire while dancing and activities aimed at older guests (such as live swing dancing and lessons) are kept mostly on Sunset Boulevard.

The focus is more on eating and drinking and partying rather than rides and tickets include unlimited snakes from the set up stands throughout the park (think appetizer and finger food) as well as one free alcoholic drinks or two free non alcoholic drinks to toast the new year.

Like MNSSHP and MVMCP, MNYEB will be a hard ticket event located in the Magic Kingdom. This event will feature special characters, snacks, games, and champagne for guests of the legal age for a midnight toast. At midnight, one randomly chosen guest will get to launch off a special set of fireworks will go off to ring in the New Year.

Celebrate the miracle of life, with the people you love at Animal Kingdom's Miraculous New Year, which will be broadcasted onto the Disney Channel, Disney Junior, featured briefly during the Times Square broadcast on ABC, and livestreamed on Disney's YouTube channel for addition publicity.

At the celebration, theaters now show the History of Civilization (hosted by Donald Duck), History of Culture (hosted by Goofy), History of the Natural World (hosted by Minnie) and Highlights of the Year (hosted by Mickey), which takeover Animal Kingdom's theaters for the night.

Finally, enjoy live performances amongst the animals at any of the three stages located throughout the park - in Pandora, by the Tree of Life, and by Kilimanjaro Safari's and be sure to watch the leaves of the tree 'catch on fire' as the clock strikes midnight!

Before I review the Practice Prompt Proposals, I first have to marvel at everyone’s combined passion. These proposals came in very quick, and at a consistently high quality. If the regular challenges see such speedy sentences too, we’ll really zoom through this Episode!

DHS is perhaps the obvious choice for creating a New Year’s Eve celebration. You’ve added a unique twist by using DHS to make ABC’s countdown stand out from the other networks. This is a neat idea, and a great Disney cross-promotion. It would be totally meta if there was also a West Coast feed using the real Chinese Theater!

I love both Oswald and 1920s Gilded Age glamor. Both fit New Year’s like a glove, but add that “Disney” level of fantasy no other bash can boast. You’ve created a ton of details with your 3 sentences; I can practically imagine myself at this party. It’s a near-perfect proposal. The one obvious problem is the nonexistent title. Might I suggest something like “Oswald’s Lucky New Year’s Gala.”

This sounds very much in line with Magic Kingdom hard ticket events. A great family-friendly variation on New Year debauchery. The notion to have a lucky special guest start the fireworks is great…at least for that one person. It would be interesting to know a little more about the fireworks, like what special music or projections accompany them.

Animal Kingdom is not an obvious choice, I guess in part because it can never get as raucous at night with all the animals snoozing away. You’ve handled that handicap well, with a quieter and more intimate event nicely in keeping with DAK’s style. There’s a really ambitious amount of original theater content here, especially for a single night! The livestreams on many different platforms are a nice additional touch.

Yay for Disneyland! You’ve covered all the New Year’s basics here – fireworks, food, drinks, characters. The notion of serving champagne in Disneyland would surely make this distinct from daily operation. It reminds me of DL’s Grad Night, with a bit more of a holiday focus. Hopefully with children also present, cast members would be able to quell the sort of drunken rowdy behavior Grad Night always inspires.
