Act 2, Scene 4 - Team Purple
After a marathon few days holed up in their offices within the dark recesses of the TDO offices in California, the Purple division of WDI compiled a lengthy list of new additions to the parks at WDW. These were not just any additions though. With a mandate to bring the thrills to Orlando and in turn generate some enthusiasm from a younger crowd, a group of 3 proposals was brought forward for approval. Here's a brief peek inside the inner workings of what almost came to happen.
Taking the term thrill literally, this new addition to the Magic Kingdom will have guests enter the world of Halloween Town and come face to face with the gambler himself, Oogie Boogie. Built behind the Haunted mansion and It's a Small World, the attraction would be an extension of the eeriness of the mansion and use both storytelling, theming and a coaster ride to generate all the excitement one could want in an attraction along the lines of Tower of Tower. With a slow start to see what Lock, Shock and Barrell, are up to, the ride gets moving as you funnel your way into Oogie's lair. Filled with a number of hard banking turns and corkscrews, the ride slows down just enough in spots to ramp things up with a turn around the roulette wheel and an assist from the Pumpkin King himself.

A high-flying adventure over the seven seas, board an inverted surf-board coaster designed by Dr. Jumba Jookiba and surf over Adventureland in an attempt to rescue the captured Experiment 626 from the notorious villain Captain Gantu. An attraction filled with high speeds, exhilarating corkscrews and inversions, and a killer soundtrack, Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride is sure to please both the Lilo and Stitch fans and thrill junkies.
AvalancheOver the years, many a mountain attraction has fallen by the wayside at Epcot, but now with this new chance to add some high octane coasters to WDW, those plans will get an update. As part of a large expansion and addition to the Canada pavilion in World Showcase will come Avalanche, combining a bit of old Epcot and new. Using the current O Canada space as a natural queue and load/unload area, the lead up to the attraction will provide riders with various visuals and research about the Yukon and British Columbia areas of Canada as well as examples of the sheer force and speed of the numerous avalanches that occur in the regions with survival gear placed around. With a slow start through some mountain passes, your crew accidentally triggers an avalanche and the race is on. You'll fly at breakneck speeds trying to outrun the avalanche as you can feel the wind, chill and roar of the avalanche all around you during this rip roaring ride

After going through numerous deliberations with the bean counters in accounting and scrounging enough funds from the recent food price increases, the decision was made to greenlight...
The WDI Purple division has worked extensively, toying with multiple ideas, but eventually settled on the attraction they felt had the most potential in Orlando. With the expansion of Tomorrowland with the TRON attraction as well as already having Space Mountain, the Western side of Magic Kingdom was empty comparatively, so the inclusion of a new E-Ticket thrill ride to Adventureland made the most sense, leading to the choice of Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride being selected, funded, and soon to be built.
As Avalanche would prove a logistical nightmare in expenses for demolition and new construction in the far end of the World Showcase, the idea was eventually retired. The Nightmare Before Christmas attraction proved too ”mature” for family audiences at the Magic Kingdom, featuring not only creepy imagery, but also a subtheme of gambling which test audiences didn't react well to.
For these reasons, as well as the closure of Stitch’s Great Escape leaving room for one of Disney’s most popular and under-represented IP’s in the Magic Kingdom, it made the most sense to WDI to choose the construction of Adventureland’s Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride.
ACT 2 SCENE 4 - TEAM ORANGE
Team Orange comes to a decision...
Team Orange collectively critiqued all proposals (including many not seen here) listing out the pros and cons for each and offering up solutions whenever possible. The Great Wall of China coaster struck us as scenic and thrilling, yet it was undone by the thin storyline and uncertainty about its visual impact on World Showcase.
Mission Exterestria was popular both for its exceptionally creative backstory as well as its choice of the Disney-patented flying coaster ride system, though the two components were difficult to reconcile for a concept we all decided would be better served by a dark ride.
Ultimately it was decided that Storm Mountain’s potential cons - lack of a specified ride system initially, the need to tie it in educationally with Epcot’s mission statement - were the most easily overcome, as it was a simple matter of fleshing out the successful and inspiring basic premise (to add to Disney’s “mountain range”). The educational component could be handled in the queue, pre-show and overall Pavilion, while the well-received flying coaster system from Mission Exterestria could be ported over, thus preserving positive aspects of multiple proposals.

CHANGCHENG

Soar on a New Year’s dragon past rivers and over mountains on Changcheng, a thrilling Intamin blitz coming soon to the China Pavilion. As Chinese New Year commences, a firework factory sets ablaze, launching you along the rim of the Great Wall. The entire ride follows the wall, with towers concealing inversions.
The ride’s queue serves as the Fireworks Factory, home to the long-abandoned fireworks game from Discovery Bay. From there, a showbuilding behind the Pavilion has been relocated and the land slightly lowered to not dominate the World Showcase skyline.

MISSION: EXTERRESTRIA
Using a flying coaster technology, Mission: Exterestria would replace Mission: Space and take you on a journey where you fly around the galaxy in search of Extraterrestrial life on the new planet Exterrestria.
As you enter Nasa’s Future World East Head Quarters, you begin to go through various pre-shows and interactive rooms teaching you about the vast galaxy and outer space before boarding you begin to board your jetpack as Nasa’s newest team of astronauts tasked to explore the galaxy.
The coaster would begin with you flying around Future World East before taking off into Outer Space flying to the far off planet called Exterrestria, made out of a bunch of futuristic purple and blue rocks.
Your journey flys around the planet, passing by caves with colored waterfalls and geysers (a nod to Rainbow Caverns) and ends inside a massive volcano like cave with geysers of purple and blue lava like liquid coming out, as well as collapsing rocks, before you eventually find exterrestrial life who ends up saving you.
Mission: Exterrestria would be a fun journey with exciting inversions, two lift hills, one launch, and massive show scenes on a thrilling roller coaster that rivals Rockin’ Roller Coaster Staring Aerosmith, including this attraction being the longest Flying Coaster in the world.
Doing some quick math, your ride you have and hourly capacity of roughly 100 guests. That is being generous with ride time estimate based on what you wrote.
Team Orange Review
The GIFs were quite distracting (In the best possible way lol)
I was too distracted by gifs I missed this detail
I haven't read Space's review yet if he posted his already, but I am going to guess knowing him he says the same thing I am about to: The pavilion feels a bit to similar in its layout/themes to the Land Pavilion.
briefly touching on the Pavilion itself -- I like it, but it reminds me too much of The Land Pavilion right next door, it might as well be an expansion to the pavilion.
lol what can I say, I've been called out by you for that before myself hahaAm I that predicable?
