The Mom

I actually slept very well, after going to bed around 1AM. Picked up my son at 11:30 PM, so stayed up talking a bit.

He went upstairs to put his stuff in his room, and came right back down. Told me, "Good try, Mom, but I can hear the motor without even opening the door." So I followed him back up, and he almost fell down when he opened the door. He was expecting to see Santa, NOT Santa Gator in his face at eye level, since I had positioned gator overhanging the top bunk, which is right next to the door. :p

Next victim - my daughter on Christmas Eve.

You know, if I lived in sunny Florida and was sending Christmas cards to my friends and relatives in the frozen North, (and I wasn't as committed as I am to only sending Christmas cards that reference the birth of Christ), I sure wouldn't be sending snowy scenes. Surely they must make SantaFlamingo or SantaGators!

just sayin'......

Florida themed Christmas cards are readily available around here. I don't send them because I'm not THAT evil. :p

I am, but like I said, I insist that my cards reference the birth of Christ (this coming from one who lives in a state with a "holiday tree"

.) Still though, sending snow-covered hills from FL just seems so wrong!

So.... decorating is done, cards are in the mail, most presents are wrapped, just have baking to do.

Still sending gifts to out of town relatives. Just finishing up the kids presents. Going to spend the week wrapping presents. Still need to send cards. I can't remember a time when I was this far behind a week before Christmas.

I'll be over later for some of those Nemo14 Christmas Cookies!!

I have officially sworn off watching the news for the foreseeable future.

The news is indeed difficult to watch, and IMHO those reporters need to leave the community now and let those families grieve. We all know how tragic this is - interviewing grieving parents and (*shudders*) children is just sooooo wrong!

I agree. The trauma of the situation does not need to be exacerbated by a reporter with a microphone. I'm having such trouble concentrating today. I worry what my kids are going to hear from other kids and what fears are going to surface.

I've had e-mails from my former students all weekend, and today their teacher and I had already planned a visit, so I'll be doing some serious hugging this afternoon.

Thanks - I did a lot of that today, but all is well.
My daughter came home from school today and told my mom what happened. She's 9. I didn't want to have to talk to her about it but the kids at school were talking about it and she heard the conversations. I guess as they grow up you can't fully shield them from the horrors of the world. It's so difficult to explain something that has no rationale.
