Oh no, say it ain't so, Joe..

I have a book somewhere that has the original concept art, by Joe himself I believe. It was a boat ride, not a white water raft. You saw real animals from the boats. The monkey island temples in Asia are apart of that design I believe.

So yes, the original “tiger river” ride was very different.

Ok at this point this is getting to be like Magenta’s hatred of muppets. Completely laughable. What Disney project has NOT gone over budget!? Ha.
Not sure why I’m quoted in this. Those weren’t my words

Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris. Listened to a great interview with Tim Delaney a few weeks ago and he mentions that once they decided on the 200 feet wide dome with a single coaster inside, the ride came under budget at 80 millions USD.

If only WDW provided something that you could use to help navigate the park. You know, something like a map. :)
Couldn't make heads or tails of it. I still wound up walking places where I had no idea I was until I just gave up on maps and signs and asked CM's every few feet as needed.

The park is a maze. Map or not.

Uncle Comcast may disagree.

If Uncle Comcast was really going to be a Daddy Warbucks for Uni, they could have stepped in to prevent three rounds of layoff, the one year (at least) delay of Epic Universe, the deeply discounted tickets, and the mad rush to reopen.

The only sign of Uni 'having money' is finishing up Velociraptor.

I'm not saying that Comcast would let Uni go under, but they haven't shown signs of being generous with them yet.

shame you didn’t try anything at the canteen, one of the best counter service restaurants on property. I’m glad you saw the entertainment in Africa.

If you saw Everest and not the nemo theatre you must have turned around and back-tracked. Which is fine, but if you had continued walking you would have come right to the nemo show and then dinoland.

You also would have been right next to Tusker House in Africa, and walked past Yak & Yeti in Asia. Depending on how you entered Pandora you would have walked right past Tiffins.

Theme parks are big and it’s easy to miss things when walking in crowds, but they were there. I don’t think the DAK restaurants have any less signage than other WDW restaurants. Some are literally hidden in Epcot.
I do think a lack of clear signage for attractions and restaurants was part of the problem. I don't recall crowds being excessive in my visits there so they weren't blocking my view. I just missed them evidently (the signs, not the crowds lol).

But the food at AK is generally not to my taste judging by the menus. Although I would've liked to have tried Flame Tree BBQ. But I couldn't figure out where it was. lol

I would (and hopefully will) happily go back to AK literally just for Africa - assuming the entertainment returns. But otherwise the park doesn't have any reason for me to return. I'd get more out of extra time at Disney Springs. Which even I realize is a blasphemous thing to say. :D

LOL. How?
The place just seems like a million trails to nowhere for me. 🤷‍♂️

Whereas I can zip around MK and EPCOT nearly blindfolded and generally work my way around DHS though not quite as easily as the other two as they've been opening up the new lands and I will still have to figure out the way through and around again. Plus I keep being confused by the front area which is a ringer for DCA and I keep expecting to find things in certain directions where they are not. lol

Besides having additional attractions, DisneySea is also much more of a built environment than Animal Kingdom with many more structures that are both taller and wider. AK by its design doesn't have those, except Everest and it can't compare with Mount Prometheus when it comes to being a believable, natural mountain.

The comparison starts and ends with both being detailed environments in a general sense. I'd say Adventureland at DLP is closer to the feel and look of AK. There's the obvious aspects of East African, North African and South Asian design, but the land's arrangement around Adventure Isle also focuses sightlines on natural formations and obscures the built structures on the periphery like AK does. And as with AK, it also needs more rides. ;)

Regardless of the form it takes, the attention to detail at Disney's Animal Kingdom is on par with DisneySea. Obviously I'm excluding Dino-Rama from this argument. One could make the argument that Mermaid Lagoon in DisneySea is a similarly "cheap" looking area, but it is still the best execution of a "cheap" theme anywhere that I've seen.

There are pockets of Disney Sea level theming in each stateside park, but DAK has the most, IMO.

DAK not laid out well? Maybe just a few choke points. I marked them in red...

I think it threads the needle between "nature taking over" with functional theme park very well. Can you better explain what you mean by choke points? The only real choke points I see are related to Flight of Passage. Previously, there were choke points at/near Kilimanjaro Safaris, but a reconfiguration of that queue has helped that significantly.

Where the flow of human traffic often comes to a crawl because paths narrow, or where paths meet/intersect and it doesn't have double the space to handle double the humans.

So many narrow bridges.

And no alternate paths.

And here is the perfect example of the problem... once you get into the park, to get anywhere you have to go thru narrow paths, and the one and only entrance/exit bridge, and then to the front of the Tree of Life. And everyone going out has to do the same in reverse.

Imagine if in the MK everyone had to get almost all the way to the castle stage before being allowing to go left or right.

YOU WILL GENUFLECT TO THE TREE OF LIFE ON THE WAY IN OR OUT... YOU HAVE NO CHOICE... ITS OUR FANTASTIC WEENIE AND YOU WILL ACKNOWLEDGE IT NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU'VE BEEN TO THE PARK... AND NOT FROM A DISTANCE. YOU WILL APPROACH OR YOU WILL BE FORBIDDEN ALL THE PARK HAS TO OFFER. LOOK. AT. THE. TREE!!! (by the way, hope you enjoyed the long walk we made you go thu first, you see, we wanted the tree in the *middle* of the park, and the park is really big and goes back a long way, so, it'd be like we put Spaceship Earth in the middle of World Showcase Lagoon, and didn't allow you to get to Soarin' or Test Track until you made the trek all the way to the lagoon first, but, c'mon, it's a pretty sweet tree, right? we put a lot of effort into it and you ought to see it.. or get the heck out of my park!!!)

Thanks for posting this! That map looks like a million squiggly lines that I'd go insane trying to follow or figure out where I was or where I was going. It looks like a slide full of amoebas to me. It is just headache inducing. No wonder I couldn't find my way around! #justmypersonalexperience

And yet, I never want to kill anyone at AK. MK, now... that's a place where I can easily lose my mind.

That's because you are surrounded by trees and greenery.
The color green has been scientifically proven to create a subliminal calming effect on the human brain.
It's why the color is used in areas to try to calm people, such as the famous 'green rooms' of television broadcast studios and stage theaters.

See, all that greenery is mellowing out all of your thoughts to kill anyone at DAK.
It's science!
(Well, more psychology..... )

I don’t believe we’ve gotten confirmation on Trowbridge either. Trowbridge would be interesting since he’s portfolio lead on Disneyland. With MMRR and Avengers still plugging away getting rid of him would be strange. That would lead to Zach Riddley also being in question as he’s portfolio lead on WDW.
In today’s economy, I’m not going to wish for either guy to lose his job. However, if you want to discuss whether someone is qualified for a high position of influence and decision-making, that’s another story.

I don’t think they’d be laid off since the positions need to exist anyway.

As for Rohde, maybe forced retirement?

World showcase can not handle crowds well. It was bad on the weekend in February this year let alone on peak holidays like nye.

Africa was pretty crowded before the new pathways were built I will agree with that.
WS was built to handle crowds very well. It was intended to maintain a bus route or a parade. Over time, Disney cluttered the walkway with booths.
