OC Register - Disneyland and Universal Studios ask Newsom not to finalize theme park reopening plans just yet

On this one we really need to just let cooler heads prevail on both sides until after the election (fingers crossed). The FDA put out guidance for manufacturers regarding the vaccine that will require additional safety protocols prior to an EUA “approval”. These standards have been communicated to manufacturers for weeks and were made public yesterday (over the objection of one particular individual in the federal government).

Forget the cooler heads, let's go to Vegas this winter! Who's with me???

Loose slots, fabulous buffet, trained nurses!

Given the number of people that say they won't get a vaccine, this one seems unreasonable if remotely true:
  • Reopen at 100% Of Your Design Capacity Only Once 99% of Californians Receive Covid Vaccine in 2022
At some point, California will have to say...you have access to the vaccine, you are solely accountable should you contract the virus when you had a viable tool to help reduce the opportunity to contract. Perhaps theme parks and other ventures could require proof of vaccination as a requirement for entry? Not sure if the ACLU or other entity will have something to say about that.
Actually our privacy laws about healthcare and who you have to disclose it to would prohibit that.

Hey, if it was proven to be effective and California did not make it readily available, I'd easily pack us all into the family truckster and head to Vegas or Arizona.

Me too. I think I'll actually drive over to Arizona, as I've been curious to see what Phoenix is like now. I haven't been there in many years. Although, if the Vegas casinos do run Covid Vaccine promotions, I'd be interested just for the fun of that.

The ~5% mortality rate of that 70+ group combined with how infectious this virus is, makes that data quite fear-inducing.

Yes, but then you also have to realize 70+ goes up to 105. And the median age of death in America is 78.

I mean honestly, if you are 82 you're already on borrowed time statistically. You are overdue by 4 years.

And those stats come from only the people who tested positive. A majority of people who get Covid only have mild to no symptoms and never got tested for it because they just thought it was a cold or had no symptoms at all.

Disneyland is still closed. Also schools.

The 70+ group happens to include everyone past the average life expectancy age and many, many of them have underlying health issues... A cold wind could take some of those people out.
That's enough! Thread after thread about the vulnerability of the 70+ group accompanied with pretty colorful graphs, charts and lots of statistics. BARF I am one of the 70+ and I say you could not hold my jock strap. Every day I see people half my age that are more susceptible to being infected by COVID19 and succumbing to it due to their poor physical condition than over 70's. I recently completed a 500 mile challenge and today did a 10K for fun. My age has nothing to do with my physical condition. What I see is a bunch of young people that do not take care of themselves, are reckless in their behaviors and end up paying the price as the damage to their bodies accumulates. Quality of life that is what its about. I do not have to paint a picture for you about what you can do with your cold wind.
For all the rest of you graph, chart and statistic sharks circling I say come on I have a hell of a sense of humor.

@GimpYancIent , here is a stat for you. There is ZERO chance COVID will take YOU down! :)👍 I don't know which is a worse human metric AGE or BMI !!! When looked at each alone, it tells us nothing of a human's potential.

But we just don't know.

What we do know is that the guidelines were shown to the theme park industry the day before they were to be released, and the industry found the guidelines so restrictive and so impossible to meet that they publicly asked the Governor to not release those guidelines without more discussion and a chance to loosen them.

Those must have been some darn scary guidelines to elicit that type of response!
One of the rumored guidelines was for the parks to only accept local guests within 120 miles I think, To be honest re opening Disneyland I think personally would have helped the Disney World guests from the West Coast And alíviate Some of the crowd increases.

Oh yeah, that was one of the more interesting rumors!

That would open up all sorts of intriguing business models for bars and restaurants around the state who could then implement "Locals Only!" rules to get into their business, under the guise of health and safety.

When I lived in the South a few decades ago, there were many bars that used a "Membership Club" model where they looked at your drivers license to make sure you were a local and then charged you $1 to join the club that allowed you into the bar or restaurant. This was a legal way to prevent Blacks from going in to White owned bars, and vice versa as in the Black part of town the bars there also used "Membership Club" rules to prevent White college kids from getting in to hear the better bands and music the Black bars offered.

This was the latter 20th century, long after the Civil Rights laws were passed in the 1960's, and it was how businesses kept certain clientele out.

I think if California tries to implement a system where businesses may legally prevent anyone from outside a community from accessing the goods or services provided by the business, the law of unintended consequences will quickly kick in and especially bars will begin a Locals Only! policy to exclude certain types of people. Sacramento better be careful what they wish for here. The law of unintended consequences is real.
