Goodness, the way posts get deleted around here you would think the site is run by a Chinese person, not a humble Englishman.

These were deleted by an American. The rules here are pretty simple in that we don't want to bring politics into the discussion. When that happens (as it always does in these situations) we delete posts or close threads. There are plenty of other forums out there for political discussion, but this isn't one of them.

No posts that were deleted were political-based. Nothing was out of the ordinary for a standard Disney conversation. Infirm of purpose.

Some people got a little miffed at the slow traffic in WDW last week for the marathon, can you imagine how ticked they are gonna be when the motorcade totally shuts down the roads into MK???

On the brighter side, I'm glad my daughter is doing her CP in Hollywood Studios and not in MK

Where is she working?

The traffic is going to be terrible. Vehicles will be halted for the motorcade so get to the parks early and stay there. If you leave close to the motorcade, you will be stuck for a while (even on the Disney buses).

Obama's visit to WDW is even popular enough to make its way into Jimmy Fallon's monologue in tonight's Late Night:

Fallon joked, "President Obama is visiting Disney World on Thursday to promote a new plan to boost tourism. Of course, it's going to be awkward when he walks into the Hall of Presidents and sees them making room for Mit Romney."

"Obama doesn't pay admission to Disney World; he just charges it to the China section of Epcot," said Fallon.

:ROFLOL:

Is Obama actually going to take any time to enjoy the parks? Seems like a whole lot of silly hype to just talk about a visa plan...

Wow. So day guests will not have the walk up Main Street? Why MK to give a speech? Why inconvenience or chance adversely impacting that many peoples' days to give a speech? Aren't there spaces designated for White House events at the White House? If its that important why not do what the rest of the world does and host an after-hours event? This isn't just frustration at the flagrant wasting of taxpayers money when the government already operates sooooo far in the red, why does WDW even entertain this in this manner? I'd be far more impressed if the powers that be held the stupid government party planners to the same guidelines every other guest or company is held to. I think the lengths they are going to are far too disruptive to normal operations to justify in any way. The whole thing is flat out stupid.

I'd put the blame for this on Disney, not the President or his staff. They probably put out feelers for this speech a few weeks ago to spots all around the country (Vegas, San Francisco, New York, etc.), and Disney came back and said "we'll shut down the entrance to the most attended theme park in the world so you can make this speech in front of one of the most famous buildings in the country that also happens to be located in a swing state."

Trying to stay nonpolitical here, this speech is about tourism, but it's mostly about making visas more easily available to foreigners who want to work or go to school here, and this type of speech has 'New York' written all over it, as that city, the world's most important center for finance, media, and culture, has long complained about the American visa process (it also attracts more tourists than WDW).

This probably has more to do with the internet censorship bills in Congress. Disney is the world's largest media company and is in full support of those bills, and is trying to curry favor with the White House to get their support. They literally moved the "world" to please the administration. Coincidentally today is the day wikipedia, google, and tons of other sites have gone dark or show information in protest to those proposed laws.

My father, who was ex special forces way back in the day, long before Reagan was president just happened to be at Epcot the same day that Reagan came for that visit back in 1985. He had so much fun pointing out the plain clothes security and secret service guys to my, now ex stepmother. He loved being around that kind of event. Oddly enough, he seemed to mysteriously find himself in those situations quite a bit. He said it was just a fluke, but I have my suspicions that it might have been more than that.

I was in Epcot the day of that Ronald Reagan visit. He was scheduled to make a short speech near SSE and we thought that we had plenty of time to see Horizons and then hear his speech. By the time that we finished with Horizons, Reagan was finished with his speech and was leaving. Chances are Obama will be in and out before you know it and life will return to normal.

I wonder how WDW was able to convince the secret service that they have adequate security measures in place at the park (keyword being "adequate")?
